Terry Pratchett’s profoundly irreverent, bestselling novels have garnered him a revered position in the halls of parody next to the likes of Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen. The Color of Magic is Terry Pratchett’s maiden voyage through the now-legendary land of Discworld. This is where it all begins — with the tourist Twoflower and his wizard guide, Rincewind.
Love this book!!!! if you enjoy fantasy you will love all these books!!
I would NEVER trust anyone who didn’t love Sir Pratchett!
The start of the Discworld series. A great read. Pratchett has a wonderful, pragmatic philosophy that comes through in his writing.
Pratchett is my favorite satirist, and this is the first of his Discworld series. I think he improved as he developed the series further, but this builds the world and constructs wonderful characters. I only got half of the allusions to other eras and novels (I learned, upon reading some reviews), but I still thought he was letting me in on his …
Funny, smart, compelling and wildly entertaining.
Reread it whenever I feel the urge.
A good start to the wonderful Discworld series by the late Terry Pratchett.
If you have not yet read a Discworld novel, I recommend starting with the very first one. This one.
If you don’t know what Discworld is, start with the very first book in the series. This one.
If you like good books, read the very first Discworld book. This one.
You won’t be disappointed. You will be amused, surprised, and better off for having …
Excellent tale. Great comedy. =)
did not like it at all uninteresting
Love the point of view in all the discworld books
How much do I like Terry Pratchett’s Discworld? Enough that I buy Kindle versions of paperbacks I already own, so I can take an entire series with me when I travel.
And the Colo(u)r of Magic will always be a favorite of mine, because I love the Luggage (and I do not mean the carry-on with my Kindle in it).
I had heard of Terry Pratchett but this is my first book, and already I am anticipating the next one. Brilliant writing and satire
Couldn’t finish; tedious. Wordy. Jumpy.
The first book in his fantastic Disk World series, this is a must read if you like witty, funny books.
ANYTHING by Terry Pratchett is worth reading. His death is a great loss to the reading community as his books are such a treat. They are well written, off-the wall funny, and take you places you never knew were there. I have a huge collection that I re-read just for fun.
I didn’t care for it because it was written for a much younger audience.
I did NOT read. I WANT to read.
As many, many others before me, I highly recommend the entire Disc World series. Pratchett had a very dry British sense of humor; his books (after the first 2 or 3) are very consistent in terms of his “world”, storyline and characters. If you are going to read any of his books, it is very important to read all of his footnotes – they contain …
Everything he writes is great
