Terry Pratchett’s profoundly irreverent, bestselling novels have garnered him a revered position in the halls of parody next to the likes of Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen. The Color of Magic is Terry Pratchett’s maiden voyage through the now-legendary land of Discworld. This is where it all begins — with the tourist Twoflower and his wizard guide, Rincewind.
You have to read Terry Pratchett at least once in your life.
He set the standard, unmatched by anyone else.
Humor, incredible insight into human motivation, and genuine, gentle affection for all our foibles and triumphs. If literature is, in fact, to teach us about ourselves, he wrote truer literature than almost anything labeled as such.
I’ve yet to read a Pratchett book I didn’t end up rereading over …
This is the first of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. It serves as a great introduction to the characters, and it will grab you tight for the ride of your life. How easily we can relate to each and every one of his stories, because we already know them in their backwards form! The satire is fantastic and the pure enjoyment of his no rules magic …
I love everything Terry Pratchett ever wrote. I believe this is one of the earlier books in the Discworld series, thus the world is still forming, and he’s still trying to find his voice, but since I read it so long ago, I can’t really remember. But read it!
Pratchett is one of the best. If you haven’t read any Discworld yet, lucky you can start right at the beginning with the first book of the series. Then pick up the Light Fantastic and just keep on going after that. I recommend Pratchett to any fantasy fans because his is a rare combination of humor and satire taking pokes at all the fantasy and …
What’s not to like about a Discworld Novel? Get thee hence to the booksellers and BUY THEM ALL! Don’t have me set the Witches Of Lancre on your trail!
Discworld and Xanth are the two worlds one MUST explore. Start your Discworld adventure with this first book of the series.
I love everything Pratchett wrote and this is one of those I love most
The whole Disc-World setting by Terry Pratchett is VERY punny, whimsical, and silly. If that’s not your thing then move along. That being said, there is a lot of brilliant and creative ideas in this book for those who are unafraid of imaginative ideas and enjoyable (and VERY flawed) characters.
I suppose it’s very witty. It’s just not my style of wit.
Great wry sense of humor. Sci fi with laughs. A real teat of a read.
Although I knew this author had a large following, I got tired of the snarky humor pretty quickly.
Should be read with “the light fantastic ” to make sense series gets better as the author develops his style
The first of the Discworld books, it’s different from the rest but it’s the one that got me hooked.
Loved the premise and the humor in this book. It just makes death so approachable. I don’t think there is a bad Discworld novel, or at least I haven’t read one yet.
could not get into it
This is the first of Terry Pratchett’s Disc World series. If you need an escape from the world, the Disc World series will give you a break. It is an interesting start to the series.
This was first Terry Prachett I read and I loved it within minutes. I’m an avid Prachett reader and have all of his works. They are a delight in fantasy
Terry Prachett is unique and unforgettable. Such a talented writer and human being. He is missed.
Pratchett is one of my all-time favorite authors. I read the entire Discworld series. If you haven’t read his books, your reading life is incomplete.
