Compared to the secrets of the human heart, killing zombies is a snap. Urban farmer Miranda Tucci is lucky to be alive in what’s left of California’s Silicon Valley, even if her love life is as lively as the average zombie. But when an old flame turns up at nearby Santa Clara University, she begins to wonder if her luck might be changing. A ruthless governing council controls the cure for the … zombie virus. When Miranda joins a plot to steal it the ghosts of her past collide with the present. Will the vaccine continue to be used for political advantage, or can Miranda survive long enough to usher in a new age of civilization? It’s only the fate of humanity that’s suddenly resting on her shoulders… if she can bring her love life back from the dead, how tough can saving the world be?

Readers’ Comments
‘I so enjoy a good zombie apocalypse, and this ticked every zombie box: Exciting, scary, and even a bit of romance. This book is a lot of fun.’ Male reader, aged 32
‘This is such a solid adventure story. It’s not particularly original but that’s okay. A zombie novel is a zombie novel! I liked the non-zombie characters; Miranda is a good hero to root for – brave with no love life! Also, unlike many books in this genre, the writing style is superb and the pacing is spot on, balancing plot and character development.’ Female reader, aged 48
‘It’s not often you get good romance in a zombie novel. In a way, this is a zombie book for women! About time I say.’ Female reader, aged 17
‘This is a book about survival. But’s also about loss and looking for love in a world where there isn’t any. The author is amazingly talented and knows how to put together a compelling plot and cool characters. The ending’s good too. I will read the next book in the set.’ Female reader, aged 17
To Sum It Up:
‘A little bit of love and a whole lot of zombies! This book’s a hoot! A BRONZE MEDAL WINNER and highly recommended.’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
A well written book with action, steamy romance bits, witty and gritty characters, and a zompoc world unlike any I’ve read. A Fresh and flawless read.
Zombies and romance, what else could you ask for?
The Zombie Apocalypse is here. It is a disease. You can easily catch it. But people learned to live in this age of zombies. But life is hard. Love life is even harder. Just ask Miranda. She lives is San Jose, California which is one of the last outposts of humanity, it is a heavily secured place controlled by the City Council and its leader, Mario Santorello. The nearby Santa Clara University’s community is lead by Jesuit priest. The Council has a monopoly on the vaccine for the zombie virus but the priest have a plan to change that. And when Miranda is recruited by the priests to help them she realizes her life just became even more complicated. She has to survive and figure out where her heart lies.
I really really loved this story. It held my attention during the whole story and the romance line was the icing on the cake. It was weird but good weird somehow to watch Miranda struggle with her feelings for someone else when she has to run from zombies, fight them, kill them…but this was what just made the story feel more real.
I liked Miranda instantly. She is one tough chick and she has a mouth on her that gets her in all kinds of troubles.
Her love interest is Connor. He used to be her boyfriend but left her to become a priest. Now, years later he is back. And for some reason he thinks he can get Miranda back. And he is doing his best to make that happen. I didn’t particulary like him, he just felt way too confident in himself.
Mario on the other hand, now he is interesting. They have history together, Miranda and him. What they had/have is just way more intriguing than her and Connor’s past.
I hope there will be more books because the ending was not an ending.
Thank you to the publisher, A.M. Geever and NetGalley for my copy.
New take on zombie genre that is full of excitement.
The author along with strong plot that progress with flips brings intriguing characters. The book surely is as great as the cover and the title “Love in an Undead Age”
Uniquely knitted story with fast pacing keeps the readers thrilled for what’s next. The author knows how to attach readers to the characters and root for them. Not boring for a second, this story about love, loss, zombies, betrayal and redemption is perfect blend that makes it worth the investment.
With action, twists and turns, and a love theme going on side, Geever pulls you in her world with compelling development and makes you want to explore it.
Highly recommended if you are looking for a 5 star read with apocalyptic zombie plot with romance.
Looking forward to the next book by Geever. Excited and Thrilled.
I should start by saying that I’m not normally one to read a zombie book. I haven’t read a romance novel since about age 12, and even then – does rapidly skimming my grandma’s semi-scandalous collection of Harlequin Romance novels really count? But, at the insistence and strenuous recommendations of friends and family, I picked up Love in an Undead Age (further enticed by the excellent cover art, it must be said!) and dove in.
And boy, am I glad I did! The story follows protagonist Miranda and a rag-tag and ever-evolving cast of characters: scientists and clergy, ex-military and ex-lovers, immensely disturbing fundamentalists and, you know, zombies, down the west coast in a quest to save humanity – and not just from zombies.
Miranda is a complex protagonist – she’s strong-willed, quick-tempered, often conflicted, and not always the best decision maker, but fortunately, she’s also a total badass, and readers will find themselves rooting for her with ease. The writing, especially when there’s peril afoot, is captivating, page turning, tense, and consistently paints vivid, moving pictures that transport the reader inexorably into the thick of things, even – and I would say especially – when zombies or other baddies are involved.
The romance aspect of the novel neatly balances out the lulls in action and adds further weight and drama to the larger, humanity-saving arc of the story and its protagonist. I won’t say much here – but in a tangled love triangle, I was surprised to find myself unsure of who to root for as their stories evolved, their characters developed, and as plot twists were revealed.
If I have a critique, it is primarily for myself – I don’t think I’d internalized before reading that this was one in a series of (still upcoming) novels, and thus, as the page count remaining in my right hand shrank, it became apparent that I’d have to wait to see some (but not all!) of the stories concluded. Damn! That said, I’ve started following the author here and on their various social media outlets, mentally queueing for Chapter 2. Chapter 1 is a winner though.
Quit waiting – pick it up!
I loved this book! I can’t wait for more from this author.
