Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a now-classic novel about two women: Evelyn, who’s in the sad slump of middle age, and gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode, who’s telling her life story. Her tale includes two more women—the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth—who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, … Whistle Stop, Alabama, offering good coffee, southern barbecue, and all kinds of love and laughter—even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present will never be quite the same again.

This is a great book to revisit in this current age of #metoo. It is filled with strong women who support each other through both small and momentous life moments. The writing is crisp and witty and never over the top. The characters are well fleshed out and very relatable. It’s a quick read and one I’ve returned to many times.
One of the best!! Should be required reading on how to devlop characters and plots.
Seriously one of my favorites. Interesting characters. Movie is also good.
did not like the writing, boring, just could not get into the story line.
I have been meaning to read this forever. It’s as good as I had heard it was
It was a pretty good book, but she did a better job with the screen play for the movie. Watch the movie. It’s better than the book, which is unusual.
The movie is one of my favorites. The book does differ somewhat from the movie, but I still enjoyed the story and clarifying the connections among the characters
Loved the read. Very enjoyed the read. So different from the movie.
A fun trip through the old rural South. The characters jump right off the page!
Thought provoking
I laughed, I cried. I
Fannie Flagg’s characters are endearing.
Loved the story!
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful novel. It kept my attention from the get-go!
The author, Fanny Flag, was one of my favorite comedians in the 60’s, and it is astonding to me that she made the change in her life to become such an accomplished writer as well. I felt her writing magically transported me right into the book sceens, as an …
I would love to have lived at that time with them, the writer made it so real
It was just as great the seventh time as the first. Will read again.
This Lady is one hellofan author. She is hilarious. I had already seen the movie of this book prior to reading. The book did a much better job of telling the story.
Excellence shows, always, in Fannie Flagg’s work, and this story is my favorite. You will either be crying or laughing, sometimes within the same paragraph, she touches you that deeply with her words!
a feel good book, very like the movie
As usual, the book was better than the movie! There were some changes but no disappointments.
