Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a now-classic novel about two women: Evelyn, who’s in the sad slump of middle age, and gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode, who’s telling her life story. Her tale includes two more women—the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth—who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, … Whistle Stop, Alabama, offering good coffee, southern barbecue, and all kinds of love and laughter—even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present will never be quite the same again.

I love Fannie Flagg’s books and this one doesn’t disappoint! It’s a wonderful story. Highly recommend.
This is one of my all time favorite reads. The movie was good, but the book is so much better.
Everything to love about this book!
An old favorite, this book doesn’t disappoint when revisited. And that’s what it feels like: visiting old friends and acquaintances from a time in my own past. Fannie Flagg is a master storyteller.
Great book- great author
Its not the movie. Much better and a different style of story telling
This book was one of the few total package literary items I have come across. The characters are do life like you feel completely connected to their story. I laughed, a mourned and I crossed my fingers for everything to come out right at the stories end.
Loved loved good summertime book. Fun. Loved characters
A classic.
Fanny Flag is one of my favorite writers; her characters are so original and I fall in love with everyone of them. I always find so many belly laughs.
Loved this
Fannie Flagg is a master of Southern humor and creates characters so vivid you’re pretty sure they’re your cousins. This is an oldie but goodie, much better than the movie version!
Great read. Both the movie and the book were exceptional. Love the characters and the setting.
I loved the characters and the depth of their story. So much of the story made me feel sad, but then just when it would start to weigh on me, something so outrageous would occur in the story that I would just bust out laughing. The levity was so well placed that it made a sad story so much more than that. The one thing that keeps me from giving …
A book with wonderful humor, a great theme, and a message for the ages!
I love this classic. I have read it many times and read it whenever I need a heart warming story that makes me smile.
I’ve read everything Fannie Flagg I could find since reading her first hit “Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man.” Fried Green Tomatoes remains a classic porch story about a time (Depression) and place (the South) where about all everyday people have is a work ethic, a respect for family, and neighbors that are smarter than their educational pedigrees …
Whether you’ve seen the excellent film made from this book or not, read this, pretty please. Two women making their own way at a time when women were expected to do nothing but get married and have a family makes one heck of a great book. Their misadventures, and their own love for one another and the other beautifully crafted characters in this …
An American classic that will make you think twice the next time you stop at that hole-in-the-wall barbecue joint on the side of the road. Fannie Flagg is a joy to read.
An all time favorite. I have reread it several times. Love this book.
