Two single parents and three adorable kids are about to have a summer they’ll never forget in this sexy, heartwarming new novel of the New York Times bestselling series. Following the sudden death of his wife, Nathan Bell spent nearly two years burying himself in work and neglecting his biggest responsibility: his daughter. Overcome with guilt, he wants to connect with little Marley, but he … Marley, but he doesn’t know how to do it alone. And then Jenna Savage throws him a lifeline.
A single mom of twins, Jenna is more than capable of taking care of Nathan’s adorable two-year-old and wants to help Nathan however she can. As the days go by and her attraction to Nathan grows, she can’t help wondering what might happen if they became a family for real. And the closer everyone becomes, the more right it feels.
Falling in love forces Nathan to face his biggest fear, and when hearts — both big and little — are on the line, the only thing scarier than needing Jenna and her kids so much is losing them all.

So you take one awesome chick and pair her with a swoony and funny but troubled hot guy, then add in 3 of the cutest kids ever and the end result is one of my favorite books this year.
Heartwarming, spicy, and adorable!
Down Too Deep is a deliciously charming, uplifting tale that introduces us to the grieving, workaholic, restauranteur Nathan and the kindhearted, dependable, single mother Jenna as they discover the power of friendship, the pull of attraction, and the benefits of being a team.
The writing is humorousx1b and light. The characters are solid, supportive, and endearing. And the plot is an enticing, engaging mix of life, loss, family, palpable chemistry, tender moments, irresistible heat, parenthood, and real-life relationship struggles.
Overall, Down Too Deep is an amusing, sweet, passionate novel by Daniels that has all the characteristics you look for in a romcom, including an engaging storyline, a wonderful cast of characters, with a supporting cast that might even steal the show, and a dreamy, happy-ever-after ending.
I really fell in love with the characters in this book! I’m a fan of this series and have loved all of them, but I really loves this one. I liked how we got to know Nate better. I loved Marly as well as the twins, they were so darn cute. I definitely recommend this book, even if you haven’t read the others you can still jump right into this one.
Steamy and heartbreaking all at the same time.
Nate is now my absolute favorite male character from J. Daniels.
I read the book in one day, I just couldn’t put it down.
Lovely characters, I was in love with Jenna and Nate potential love story from book 1, and this book was all I needed and expected from the author, and so much more!
My perfectly imperfect and broken (and so hotttttttt) Nate… *sighs*
Grab this book, already!!!! (and the whole series, all the books are a Must Read)
Bring on your next stories, J. Daniels!!!!

OMG Fourth book in this series and an amazing ending. Loved it.
Nathan is a single dad failing his daughter, Marley, drowning himself in work and alcohol until his folks force him to snap out of it. In walks Jenna single mom of twins who’s trying to date but once the men find out she has kids they run. I love her children and Marley they really made this story so good. Fabulous end to the series.
4.5 Stars
This is the book that I’ve been waiting for… and you know how when you’re super excited for something, and it just doesn’t live up to your expectations (because those expectations are just too high)? Well, I’m so excited that Down Too Deep truly lived up to those high expectations!
Nathan is a recent single father to an adorable little 2-year old girl. But he is struggling to find his way. Jenna is a single mother to twin 8-year olds. She steps in to help Nathan out with his daughter. And with this help, Nathan learns how to navigate a little girl and falls in love with with Jenna and her children.
I loved watching Nathan grow throughout the book. I loved the flirty banter that Nate and Jenna had. And the connection I felt with all of the characters was something truly great. I will say that about 75% into the book, it did begin to slow down a little for me. But as a whole, I absolutely loved Down Too Deep, and definitely recommend it!
FANTASTIC!!!
Altho I have all the books in this series, this was the first one I’ve read. They all look wonderful (obviously I think so since I bought them – LOL) but this one has been calling to me since the first snippet I read somewhere on the interwebs. It was written very well as a stand alone, while at the same time I could tell there are lots of bits that fans of the whole series are going to LOOOOVE. As a finale to a series, it gets two thumbs up & my admiration. <3
Nathan (Nate, to everyone but Jenna) & Jenna are both single parents, brought to that title by very different circumstances. I ADORED their story from start to finish. Their personalities, banter, the children (Oliver, Olivia & Marley certainly steal some of the show!), the supporting family characters... It all just ... WORKS. There's lots of laughter, some tears, and the story manages to be both deep and light.
Loved it!!! : )
Down Too Deep by J. Daniels is the fourth book in her Dirty Deeds series. Emotional and slightly heartbreaking in places this book was absolutely phenomenal. Wonderful main characters, wonderful secondary characters. The premise of the story is really well crafted. From the introduction to Nathan’s character and his parents to meeting Jenna and her kids. I loved every page and practically devoured this book. Super sexy and so amazingly sweet yet with enough drama between the two main characters that you want to also maybe get a little violent with them. Enjoy!
Down Too Deep is the fourth book in this interconnecting series and my first read from the author. Although characters from the previous books appeared in the story, this can be read as a standalone. This is a contemporary, single parent romance with a lot of feels!
Nathan lost his wife and was feeling out of depth and completely clueless on how to connect with his daughter, Marley. Jenna is a single parent with twins and trying the dating scene again. When Jenna saw Marley at the restaurant that Nathan owns and offer to babysit her, both of them didn’t know that it will be the start of a new beginning.
What can I say aside that this book will hit you right in the chest with its feels! Man, the twins and Marley are downright adorable. I just wanted to hug the hell out of these kids. Ugh! Being a mother myself, I can feel the empathy that Jenna felt for Nathan. It takes a village to raise a kid. Aside from the cute and funny moments with the kids, Jenna and Nathan’s chemistry is spot on. I feel that they are just the perfect fit for each other and I love the swoon worthy flirtations between them. This is a story of healing, learning to love again, and just plain old good romance with a lot of heart! I highly recommends this to those who love single parents romance!
Nate and Jenna story blew me away!
I have been waiting for their book from Author J. Daniels and it was totally worth it.
My heart broke for Nate. Poor guy has been through the ringer and when him and Jenna get together in this book, it is explosive!
I loved how both of them are single parents and that Jenna is the one to make Nate love again.
And their kids are adorable and made my heart swoon even more with this story.
Just grab this book and have your heart soar with love like Nate & Jenna.
5 popped!
Liked, not loved. Sweet story about a widower with a precious little girl and a single mom with twins, boy and girl. Nathan Bell lost his wife two years ago to suicide. When it happened, he checked out and spent two years between booze and work. He neglected his little girl, leaving her bringing up to his parents. Until one day his father had enough and gave him a “come to Jesus” talk and left him in charge of his two year old daughter, who he didn’t know at all. So, the first impression I got was that Nathan had no balls and he was an irresponsible dude.
Next we have Jenna, who got pregnant at eighteen, had twins, and had to do it all alone, since the twin’s father checked out and resigned his parental rights. With a little help from her parents and brother, she studied, and is working as a paralegal. During the summer months, she works from home, so she can be there for her twins. Her kids, Olivia and Oliver, are eight y/o and totally adorable. They’re precocious and extroverted and very emotional.
One day Jenna took her kids to eat and happened to go to Nathan’s restaurant. There she sees this beautiful toddler wandering barefoot around the place and one of the servers, Tori, introduces them. Jenna fell in love with the little girl, her kids also liked her and when she learned about Nathan’s predicament, she immediately offered to babysit during the summer. Here I had an incredulity moment. Granted, this is a small town and everybody knows everybody else. Jenna knew about Nathan, two of her best girlfriends work as servers, and they are sorta related since Tori’s boyfriend is best friends with Jenna’s brother. But to immediately offer to babysit for the whole summer and at Nathan’s house? It was mind boggling for me, especially the salary that Nathan offered.
On with the story! As Nathan gets to know Jenna and her kids, he starts to like them and needs them to be happy. He feels centered when Jenna is with him, so he starts to depend on her. Likewise, the kids start to love him and his little girl and they love spending the day at his house, he has lots of space, beachfront terrain and a basketball court. Plus, he used to play football in high school and college and practices with Oliver, who wants to be a quarterback. This feels like a ready-made family, except that Nathan has issues and Jenna wants everything.
Now we get to the part where the story drones on and on. They get to a sticky part, then sort of drift a little apart, then they make up and get to another sticky point. It got to a moment where I was wondering if it would ever end. This is not one of those page turner stories where you’re expecting a flashy explosion and then a great make up finale. This was more of a wandering around story with little skirmishes and soul searching that leads to more talking about feelings and opening up and sharing.
I loved Jenna and all the kids, they were adorable. Jenna is a strong woman, faces all her troubles head on, and is generous to a fault. She’s always considerate of everyone’s feelings and sometimes puts hers on second place. In fact, she sometimes acted a little like a doormat with Nathan when I think he needed a swift kick in the butt. Nathan I saw as an emotional coward; every time he neared an emotional meltdown he closed down on himself and separated from everyone. He was very inconsiderate with Jenna, curt and distanced. He didn’t consider the hurt he was causing Jenna’s kids when he acted like a chump.
Eventually we get to our HEA, and there are some brilliant moments where the dialogue is witty, the kids are hilarious, Nathan gets his moment of triumph where he finally grew emotionally and all was well with the world. It was long and heartfelt but I still felt like Nathan is a wimp. It took an ear pull from his father both times to get him cracking. I can’t imagine how he would act in future crisis, and can only hope he gets good counseling. Jenna I like and would love to have a Jenna as a friend!
Best J. Daniel’s book to Date! And y’all there are alot of them. Nate and Jenna and the kids let alone the Dogwood Beach Crew suck you in from page one and don’t let go. This book had everything tears, lol funny, oh the kids, squeezes your heart and emotions right out of your chest ! Must read! Worth every damn star!!
Single parent book… Absolutely yes please.
Nathan Bell is a single dad who’s world came crashing down around him. Now he is a workaholic and has let his parents raise his little girl. But his time is up and he needs to step up and take responsibility for his little girl. But he’s drowning he doesn’t know how to do this single dad thing.
Jenna is a mother of 8 yeald twins and her kids are her life. She has been on her own since they were born and her world revolves around them. So when she sees Nate drowning she can’t help but offer her help until he can learn to manage his life better.
I didn’t know this woman at all, and she was offering me the lifeline I desperately needed.
Without realizing it Jenna teaches Nate how to be a better father but also how to deal with is issues and become the man he’s suppose to be. But she also stirs up feelings that he never thought he would ever have for a women again. But will Nate be able to give Jenna what she and her kids need and want or is he still stuck on the past and the guilt he carries around with him??
really really enjoyed this book. Jenna was like a super mom, damn anyone would want to be her. Sweet, emotional romance about second chances at happiness and love and also about forgiveness. You will definitely enjoy this one if you love single parent romances.
It was a sweet love story. And it was wonderful to see all the other characters involved in their journey. I recommend this book, this series, and this author.
I have been waiting (impatiently) for Nate and Jenna’s story and I can tell you the wait was so worth it. This book gave me everything that I love about J. Daniells’ writing. I hate to see this series end but I know what comes next will be just as consuming, enjoyable and breath-taking as this series.
OhmyGodILovedThisStorySoMuch!!
J.Daniels just delivered
a beautiful story of a single dad and his love for his daughter,
a romance and a family in whole totality that just blended so well and with a great substance that made me captivated from beginning until the end
Nathan and Jenna’s story is a compelling journey of two damaged souls brought together by the tragic events that have taken place in their lives.
Down Too Deep had everything that I love to see in a book- angst, love, banter, passion, sexy single father, insanely cute little children , strong single mum, and a storyline that will absolutely capture your heart and stay with you. I highly recommend one clicking and falling in love with not only Jenna and Nathan but also Marley, Olivia and Oliver!
I loved the slow build to their relationship and how Jenna just clicked with Marley.
Jenna took charge of her life the moment she heard she was pregnant and was totally devoted to her twins. She never planned for Nathan to come into her life and even less for Marley to steal her heart.
“Your heart is on the line. Or in your case, three hearts. What’s that saying, you gotta play to win?”
Nathan is more than a single dad who has lost the love of his life, Sadie. He is the ultimate alpha male wrapped up in the sweetest, most caring package. Nathan the man, Nathan the dad, Nathan the lover!
“Get it together, Nathan. Jesus. What was wrong with me? I was jealous, and I had zero fucking right to react this way.”
They both deserve their HEA but we all know that life is not that easy…
The kids in this story plays a key role to the story! Their humour, dialogue and honesty conquered me. I mean Olivia telling Nathan what type of date her mum likes and more and me LOL
J. Daniels, thank you for an amazing story that touched my heart!!
Wonderful. Epic. Just really very sweet and moving. A fabulous addition to my favourite J.Daniel reads.
All the love for Nathan and Jenna!!! Oh my goodness did J. Daniels just write her heart out here!! Two single parents, brought together by need. Three kids between them that were more adorable than I could stand. One crazy amount of amazing chemistry and passion that had me rooting for this couple from the start!!
I’ve wanted this story since the first book I read in this Dirty Deeds series. An absolute, can’t stop reading series for me with so much laughter, heartache, heat and passion combined. This final book in the series, I’m not ready to say goodbye really, just was simply perfect. You get all my faves making appearances (though I woulda loved a bit more of Stitch), you get more happy moments with the couples. But the most important is we finally get all of Nate’s story, and man oh man did it cue the tears for me. Besides that though, we get to see Jenna finding hope for a future. Her adorable twins connecting with a father figure in Nate. We also get Nate finding his way as a dad, and finding that his heart still has more love to give.
It was simply perfect for me. Total winner and needs all the stars!!
TROPE: SINGLE PARENT(S) ROMANCE
Down Too Deep is an intoxicating and sweet romance about two single parents finding love in the most unexpected ways. This is a book that will quickly fill your heart with joy, love, and hope, and also one that readers won’t soon forget. J. Daniels has once again proven why her romance novels are must readers and I highly recommend reading Down Too Deep.
Having read a couple of J. Daniels novels in the past I knew I was going to be consumed with this story (she continuously writes breathtaking romances that are filled with passion and grace). However, I didn’t realize how deeply this book would effect me. The amount of emotion and charm that poured out of these pages is magical. The deep connections I made with these characters was thrilling and the second the book ended I felt like I was missing my own friends. I do know though that Nate, Jenna and the kids will forever hold a special place in my heart. Wonderful characters and a deeply emotional but sweet story is what Down Too Deep is made of and I couldn’t recommend it more to fellow readers if I tried. Even expressing my thoughts on this novel is difficult because there truly aren’t many words to describe just how gorgeous it truly is. I suppose readers will just have to grab a copy (if you haven’t already) to see what I mean.
When I first learned of this series I thought it would be your average every day romances that we see time and time again. No offense to the author or cover models but they just make the book LOOK like it’s going to be another run of the mill romance. Let me tell you, these cover DON’T do the book justice. I like them plenty of course and find the brilliant colors to be eye catching and appeasing, but they don’t hold a candle to the contents inside the pages. That being said, if these covers make you think the novels are going to be lighthearted and average reads you are WRONG. This has been continuously been proven to me.
Other than that, there isn’t much more I can say about this stunning story that other readers haven’t already said. It’s a wonderful story about releasing the burden of guilt placed upon one’s shoulders and finding ways to live again. It’s a story about forgiveness, second chances, parenthood, and love. It’s also a relatable story with realistically sweet characters that readers will instantly fall in love with.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Down Too Deep is a MUST READ and I highly recommend to romance readers everywhere.
J. Daniels
J does it again! This book was so good. Nate was amazing. He was broken and lost but Jenna helped him find his way again. So many feels on this journey! I laughed and cried. I was anxious and hopeful and excited. There were happy and sad times. It was the perfect combination of all the feels. So good! Too good! Perfect book!

~~ 5 GLORIOUS STARS! ~~
An Epic Romance Reviews Top Pick!
Swoony single parent romances are MY JAM, so when I read the blurb for DOWN TOO DEEP by J. Daniels and discovered it’s a DOUBLE single parent romance, I was positively GIDDY with anticipation. So expectations were already pretty high going in, but omg this humorous, heartwarming, and powerfully heartbreaking, story BLEW ME COMPLETELY AWAY!
THE PREMISE:
Nearly two years have passed since the tragic passing of Nathan Bell’s beloved wife, Sadie, and in that time, he has been so buried in mind-numbing grief that he has shirked his most important responsibility of all—caring for his precious baby girl. When his fed-up parents decided to stop picking up the slack and demand he own up to his parental responsibilities the guilt-ridden widower knows their brand of tough love was a long time coming. He knows he let little Marley down and has to step up to the plate. But nevertheless, he is in over his head, overwhelmed with the daunting responsibility of caring for his baby girl. However, reinforcements come in the form of a beautiful and spirited single mom, Jenna, who comes into the restaurant one day with her 8 year old twins and forms an instant attachment to little Marley. And Nathan can hardly believe his stroke of good luck when she volunteers to pitch in and help care for his daughter over the summer.
Jenna proves to be the angel the handsome restaurant owner never expected and this gorgeous, bubbly, kind-hearted woman, who’s fiercely devoted to her own son and daughter yet miraculously finds space in her massive heart for his own motherless little girl, stirs feelings back to life in him that he thought were gone forever. And before long, they find themselves forming their own little unorthodox family unit. Moving on is hard to do, but can these two single parents find true love and a second chance at happiness against ALL odds?
MY MUSINGS:
Gah! I have so much love for DOWN TOO DEEP! While this is the fourth book in the author’s bestselling DIRTY DEEDS series, since this is my first read by the J. Daniels, I can fully attest it can be read as a complete standalone. This beautifully slow burning romance about soul deep healing, second chances, and the powerful bonds of friendship and family just slayed me in the BEST POSSIBLE WAY!
And it is hands down my FAVE single parent book of 2019!
The protagonists are so endearing that they work their way into your morrow from page one. I laughed with them. Cried with them. And just rooted so hard for them to find their path to happiness together. Nathan just broke my heart yet mended it, often in the same breath! He is a dad who has lost his way after the agonizing sudden death of his wife, and SOB, his little girl was the unexpected casualty of war. He buried himself in his work—running his restaurant, Whitecaps to try to mask the crippling pain but of course that only made his heartache and torment all the more acute.
But hope and healing come a knocking in the most unexpected ways! Granted Nathan has a lot of grief and guilt to work through, and making up to do to his daughter for all the time he wasted. And letting go of his memories of his late wife to build a future with Jenna and her kids is not exactly a walk in the park. But he’s no longer on an island unto himself and learns how to lean on his loved ones to get himself through the tough times.
“Different wasn’t bad—I was living it. This new normal…life without Sadie. I didn’t hate it. I didn’t want it either, and if I’d had a choice I’d never have asked for this, but it didn’t feel wrong anymore. It just simply was.”
And sighhhh I had a major girl crush on Jenna! This heroine was THE BOMB–Mom extraordinaire, loyal and selfless friend and confidante, and sweet and doting lover. Her heart is so big and vast she has room in it not only to love Nathan’s little girl but the gruff, bereaved widower himself. She inspires him to be a better man, and father, but in the process fulfills some lifelong dreams for herself and her kids as well. And not only do Nathan and Jenna share a fun, infectious and intensely passionate chemistry that made me giggle like a giddy schoolgirl, but their kids just OWNED me.
I love single parent romances where their kids are not only pivotal to storyline but they steal the show! And such was the case with DOWN TO DEEP. Nate’s baby girl and Jenna’s 8 year old twins, Oliver and Olivia, were just cute as a button. So adorable and charming, funny and precocious and lent so much whimsy and sweet poignancy to this heartwarming tale. Together this quintet fills an aching void in each other’s lives and add richness and meaning beyond their wildest dreams. Not only did my ovaries combust in the scenes with Nathan and Marley where they slowly but surely form that crucial daddy/daughter bond (with a little help from Jenna) but also in the scenes where Jenna and Nathan interacted with all their kids as one big happy family. The connection they shared together was EVERYTHING! Of course, when the H&h develop very real feelings for each other things get a bit complicated. But when there’s oodles of love, there’s always a way!
“Falling in love was overwhelmingly scary. It was also becoming the easiest thing I had ever done.”
I really can’t gush enough about this tender-hearted, tantalizing romance—the writing is captivating, the pace is pitch perfect, the sex molten hot, and the warm fuzzy feels made me all MELTY inside. I found myself crying my way through many scenes, but ultimately my heart was so full of hope and buoyancy throughout it nearly burst at the seams! As for the HEA ending? It had me swooning like crazy!
BOTTOM LINE:
DOWN TO DEEP is an unforgettable, feel-good romance about finding the strength to move on from the past to forge a beautiful new future brimming with ENDLESS possibilities! The immensely talented J. Daniels is now a new fave of mine and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
A MUST READ!
