“Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light.” ~ Madeline L’EngleDarkness has fallen upon the Sparrow world. What seemed secure was breached, and what was assumed unattainable is possible. In this dangerous underground world, we Sparrows took our power by force. As dusk gave way to dark, we Sparrows are once again determined to use any means necessary to recover what … necessary to recover what is ours, secure our stronghold, and defeat those who appear unconquerable.
The gauntlet has been thrown.
We will not retreat.
Darkness be damned. It is time for triumph.
I am Reid Murray.
For my wife and my brothers-in-arms, nothing, not even darkness, will stop the Sparrows from victory.

4.5-4.75 STARS
Romantic suspense—especially when served with a side of the “dark and twisted” with an extra helping of danger—has quickly become one of my favorite genres. And what my vast reading experience has taught me, is that NO ONE serves up a dark & twisted romantic suspense tale better than Aleatha Romig! Her latest novel, “Dark,” is no exception!!
In this second installment to Aleatha’s Dangerous Web series, Reid and Lorna’s story continues to play out. With memories of Lorna’s recent captivity still eluding her, memories from her childhood suddenly rise to the surface. And while Lorna struggles to make sense of it all, Reid is more determined than ever to administer justice for his bruised and battered wife, “sparrow-style.”
“Dark” is one big puzzle, raising more questions than it answers, leaving me both antsy and eager to discover just how all of the pieces will (ultimately) fit into place.
Title: Dark (Dangerous Web #2)
Author: Aleatha Romig
My Rating:
Type: Trilogy Book 2
Genre: Contemporary Fiction Romance, Romantic Thriller, suspense
Primary Characters: Reid & Lorna
Secondary characters: Sterling Sparrow, Mason, Patrick, Araneae, Madeline and Laure
Narration: Dual POV
This is the second book in dangerous web series. Book takes you on a ride to dwell deep in Reid and Lorna’s world. There were many twists, turns, mystery, action and suspense which is often the case in Aleatha’s world.
Lorna has been returned in bruised, battered and abused condition after the kidnapping. Drug used on her has muddied her memory. Reid is struggling with the guilt he feels at being unable to protect Lorna as she continues to struggle with her loss of memory and her recent trauma. Reid feels a fierce protectiveness towards his wife and blames himself and wants revenge badly as the darkness inside him shows its ugly head. Story toggles in and out from past to present which makes it more interesting.
More secrets come to light, there were more twists and turns and of course a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting to know what is going to happen next. There’s still so much to uncover and I really have no clue how the series will end. It’s was interesting seeing the personalities of the ‘ Sparrow ‘ women as all are completely different from each other.
Totally loved seeing the entire gang coming together to fight the enemy and support each other in need. Ruby was so adorable. Would love to see more of her someday. Narration is crisp and clear. Flow of this book is fast moving. Secondary characters are the best part of the book.
Overall, this book is the more emotional of the series. It’s explosive and passionate. I can’t wait to see how their story concludes. If you are not a fan of cliffhangers then wait till the last book in the series is out and binge read.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book in exchange for honest review.

I started 2020 with an Aleatha Romig book and I’m finishing it with an Aleatha Romig book…totally unplanned and yet, what a way to say goodbye to 2020 and hello to 2021! Dark, the second book in Aleatha Romig’s Dangerous Web Trilogy will grab you by the throat from the very beginning and drag you along into the Sparrow realm as the Sparrow men try to unravel who is behind the kidnapping and subsequent release of two of their wives. The emotions and tension run high in their golden tower as they all scramble to help the two women recover from their ordeal and also work to secure the answers they need to exact their revenge on those responsible. As always, Aleatha Romig’s words paint a vivid picture of her complex characters and their lives, so one can’t help but feel a part of their world. I love the darkness in this book, the twists and turns that you don’t see coming are beyond exciting. The emotions pouring from the hearts of these characters are palpable and will grab at your heartstrings. You can’t help but be caught up in their mission and rooting them on with each turn of the page. The non-stop action and steamy love scenes will keep you enraptured until the end. Once again, Aleatha Romig’s writing is perfection and a joy to read. The time just flew by and before I knew it, I was turning the last page. I’m so sad this is the second to last book in her Sparrow World. I will miss all these characters immensely, but I’m so excited to read the final book, Dawn and see how this story plays out. I’m sure this talented author has many exciting worlds to offer us in the future. I, for one, will be waiting anxiously to read what’s next. For now, be sure you grab Dark, and immerse yourself in Reid & Lorna’s story and the fabulous Sparrow World!
4.5 Wow Stars! A fantastic yet dark storyline that will keep you on your toes. The twist and turns as well as scorching hot chemistry will keep you hooked from the beginning to the end. Can’t wait for Dawn! I need it NOW!!!
Wow. The intensity, suspense and harrowing emotions run deep here, so do try to prepare yourself. This is book two of this series and you must read book one, Dusk first. Also, if you have any triggers in regards to abduction, assault, attempted rape and child abuse, this really might not be the book/series for you. I will be frank, none of these are triggers for me and yet this was a hard story to read. To say that your emotions are put through the wringer and that your heart feels like it was put in a blender is no gross understatement. However, I found it all worth it as this gripping tale took me along with Lorna and Reid as their story picked-up and continued. This book firmly held me in its grasp until the last page and left me urgently needing the final book ASAP! This is my independent, impartial review.
This is the second book in the “Dangerous Web” series. Reid and Lorna have been married for years. Reid is part of the Sparrow world and they protect not only the underworld but their families and they are the most important. When darkness falls upon their family, the Sparrows will do anything and everything to avenge. Aleatha brings us into this web and even when darkness falls, we have to be strong and find the light.
I can’t even with this book. The ending has me scared for what is next but also, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m telling you, if you haven’t been Aleatha’d yet you need to get one of her books and read it. Any one. It doesn’t really matter where you start because once you do you will read everything. I bow down to the queen and await my turn to read the final book of this series. I just know that no matter what happens, I will not be prepared but I will love it.
5 Star Review of Dark (Dangerous Web #2) by Aleatha Romig
Dark is the second book in the latest series Dangerous Web from Aleatha Romig and as the name implies it is darker, more twisted and absolutely captivating, it is the continuation of Reid Murray and Lorna Pierce’s story
Reid is struggling with the guilt he feels at being unable to protect Lorna as she continues to struggle with her loss of memory and her recent trauma. I really liked both Reid and Lorna, both separately and especially together, they really are a great paring.
There were many twists and turns, mystery and suspense and I was often on the edge of my seat as I read this story and I cannot wait to see what happens in the final book, Dawn.
This series has me captivated. Buckle up because each page unveils a new revelation. As Reid fights the darkness for vengeance, Lorna struggles for the light and clarity regarding her captivity. So many twists and turns but the Sparrow family won’t let anyone of their own flounder. As the team races to find those responsible, Reid is plunged into another form of darkness. That ending, had my heart racing and so many questions. I cannot wait for Dawn (book 3) to see how this all plays out.
“I’d heard that love is light. Knowing the life Lorna and I had made, I agreed.
In contrast, hate was without light.
It was dark.
And while hate and loathing were new to me, I recognized them without question.” ~Reid
Reid and Lorna’s story continues in Dark and it is dark and explosive. The Sparrow stories are always gripping and breath grasping to the last word.
Lorna is still reeling from her kidnapping and trying to come to terms with her absent memory. The Sparrow men and women circle her with support and love, trying to make her feel like she will be lifted up and taken care of when the memories soar back to her.
But that ending, I can’t fathom a world without him.
Lorna is now back where she belongs.
In Reid’s arms in the Tower.
She’s physically present.
But mentally she’s having a hard time coping.
What’s a real memory what’s an illusion?
What is fact what is fiction?
Her mind isn’t yet able to process the trauma she has gone through.
There is too much to deal with at once.
At times she breaks.
At times she cries.
At moments she checks out.
Lorna may not see her own strength.
Or feel how strong her spirit is.
But she’s is a force to be reckoned with.
Her inner strength and determination to survive and overcome is powerful.
There is so much more we find out about Lorna through her flashbacks.
Her resilience left me in awe.
Her will not to succumb to all the hardships throughout her life left me freaking amazed.
Her resilience to keep going awed me.
Simply put Lorna is remarkable.
In this book we now get to see a different side to Reid as well.
His love and devotion for Lorna was evident in previous books.
But in this one it can be felt and seen.
It’s like a breathing thing determined to bring together Lorna’s broken pieces.
While simultaneously seeking revenge for those responsible for his wife’s pain.
The emotions Reid and Lorna go through I swear I felt them all.
Their anguish and their suffering.
Their will to persevere and their determination to lift the other up.
And most especially their love.
That’s because Ms. Romig turns words into magic.
They pop and come to life.
What also astounds me about her writing is her sense of details and descriptions.
When she writes about formulas and technical issues.
Everything makes sense and is brilliantly told.
It’s like she truly is a research doctor or a chemist or a computer genius.
Her hard word and the energy she puts into these complex topics truly shows.
Even down to the minute details!
It blows my mind the amount of time and the effort she must do in order for all the intricacies to come together so superbly.
That along with the suspense and the sexiness of the storyline makes for a remarkable read!
Dark is the second book in the Dangerous Web series and the second book of Reid and Lorna’s story. This one picks up right where things left off in Dusk, so you must read that first before continuing with Dark.
This one was full of more twists and turns, more of Lorna’s emotional and heartbreaking past. Which her past can be a trigger for some as it features some sensitive subject matter. It completely broke my heart and the fact that she never mentioned it to a soul and has been hiding that for so many years. I love that Reid is there for Lorna, he is supportive, he wants to help her, but he also wants to know who kidnapped her and seek revenge.
More secrets come to light, there were more twists and turns and of course a cliff hanger that will leave you wanting to know what is going to happen next. I can’t wait to see where Reid and Lorna’s story goes and if all the truths will be revealed.
Oh Lorna. You sweet, sweet, wonderful woman.
I’ve admired Lorna fiercely through this series. She’s the glue that holds the Sparrow men together. After the trauma of Dusk, she’s home, back in the tower with the delicious Reid to help her recover.
Recovery is hard though and lovely Lorna has to through some tough memories. They were tough on her and very tough to read. Sparrows avenge.
There’s still so much to uncover and I really have no clue how the series will end. The initial conclusions I had were blown to dust. I realised there’s no point in trying to guess, just let Aleatha take me along for the ride and hope that my heart is still beating at the end.
Book 2 in Reid and Lorna’s story. Lorna is home, she’s still dealing with a lot from when she was taken. Her memories are gone but the longer she and Araneae are home, the more and more they’re getting small snippets of memories, though Lorna’s may not only be from their recent abduction. Are they real or just the mind playing tricks? And of course, Reid blames himself for not being able to protect Lorna, he wasn’t there when she was abducted so it’s his fault she’s going through the turmoil that she is. When the pieces are starting to shift into place, one adversary denies involvement, leaving them to discover there’s another waiting in the shadows. When some questions are finally answered, there are a bunch more that arise. I can’t wait for Dawn to see how it all plays out.
This is book two in Lorna and Reid’s story and it picks up where book one left off. As Lorna navigates her mind’s eye and tries to remember the past few weeks, she is having flashes from the past she has forgotten. Some she wanted to forget others she made herself forget. And you wonder why, anyone who went through what she has and came out the other side as a strong, independent woman deserves a future with Reid.
Reid is trying to be strong for his wife but he doesn’t know how to help her. He wants to catch those that hurt her and make them pay. Along with Sparrow, Patrick and Mason, they can do anything. As they follow the clues, Mason learns things about his and Lorna’s childhood that will make you cringe.
This series is not for the faint of heart, if you have triggers of any kind, please tread carefully. It is a series worth reading, it will break your heart, leave you breathless, make you cry, and have you wondering where the author came up with this amazing story. Oh, and there is one hell of a cliff-hanger. I need book 3 NOW!!! Please!
**I received a free copy of this book to read and review and this is my honest opinion**
My heart! Holy smokes this story is intense!
We learn so much more of Lorna and Mason’s past in this story, and oh man, it is deep and heart wrenching. This story is extremely emotional. My heart cried for Lorna and when Mason found out more about their child-hood, I cried for him and his feelings of helplessness and protectiveness.
Reid is incredibly amazing. So compassionate and everything Lorna needs to cope with everything.
Everything is unfolding, the tension is palpable, and crap is about to hit the fan as these Sparrow men work to take down those who dare to harm their women. This book is the more emotional of the series. It’s explosive and passionate. I can’t get enough of this Sparrow world and am anxious for the next book!
This series is fascinating, we are learning so much about Lorna and Mason and what they went through as children. This book is much more focused on all the Sparrow women and it fills out their stories and personalities. It is very hard to put down once you start and there are some parts that are hard to read, but Reid is so loving and gentle with Lorna and yet so hard when seeking revenge. Everything seems to be interconnected with Laurel, Mason and Lorna but there are other forces at play and Ms. Romig is a master at weaving it all together and keeping us guessing. Thank goodness we don’t have to wait too long for the final book in the series.
In classic Aleatha Romig style, Dark sucked me right in and wouldn’t let go. Ms. Romig is a master storyteller that knows how to weave an intricate web around the heart and minds of her readers. Full of twists and turns that will leave you begging for more, Dark was an amazing and brilliant read. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the epic conclusion I know is coming in Dusk. And while I am very excited to see how the rest of this story plays out, I will also be somewhat sad as I will miss the Sparrow world. I absolutely loved it!
Be prepared for this one. It might seem long on what Lorna discovers what she went through as a child. Scenes will feel cringe worthy, and will have some triggers. I just loved Mason and Reid at the end though. Cliffy will be sure to bet you’ll stick around for the last installment.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I love Dark. It’s exciting, emotional, and filled with must turn pages to follow Reid and Lorna’s journey. Aleatha brought her words to life in the way she told their story.
Dark is the second of the Dangerous Web series and it doesn’t disappoint. I laughed, cried, and bonded with Lorna and Reid. Lorna is the magnet that brings their family together keeps made the Sparrow tower a home. I love Lorna and Reid.
They have been a staple throughout all the Sparrow Webs but we never saw the depth of their relationship. Aleatha did an amazing job keeping true to all her characters from past to present.
