As dusk gave way to dark, we Sparrows are once again determined to use any means necessary to recover what … necessary to recover what is ours, secure our stronghold, and defeat those who appear unconquerable.

The setting: Chicago
The Hero(s): Reid Murray – Works for Sparrow. Sterling Sparrow is the kingpin of the Chicago underground as well as the head of Sparrow Enterprises. Reid is the Technology specialist of the group and is married to Lorna who was kidnapped an beaten.
The heroine: Lorna Murray – Lorna was married to Reid and sister to Mason who both work for Sparrow. She was recently taken captive by accident. The captors really wanted Mason’s wife Lauren for her research into mind altering drugs which worked on the memory centers of the brain. Lorna was beaten and nearly raped and given a drug similar to what Lauren was studying.
The Love Story: Reid and Lorna have been married for years and are still madly in love. Reid feels a fierce protectiveness towards his wife and blames himself for her abduction.
The first book “Dusk” was about Lorna’s abduction and imprisonment as she was held hostage with Sparrow’s wife Araneae. This book was about what happened after their return. It deals heavily with PTSD, not just Lorna’s PTSD of the abduction but also of her abuse as a little girl by her mother’s boyfriend. It goes in to alarming detail about his sexual abuse of her.
The memory loss over the abduction is dealt with, how not knowing exactly what happened has affected her and Reid as well who wants to track down and kill whomever hurt Lorna. Though Lorna just wants Reid to stay with her and make her feel safe. In addition to the memory loss, Lorna gets flashes of memory which is disturbing to say the least given what she went through.
I liked the book and I do like when books deal with heavy subjects like these. Sometimes in romance terrible events are overcome by those involved all too quickly and not realistically but this was handled very well. That said, I was just a bit bored and found it hard to get through the book. It could be just one of those times I didn’t quite feel like reading, but it did take me days to get through this book. It definitely got much better during the second half and the cliffhanger was great!
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Goodnessss..
Once again Aleatha Romig has left me on the edge of my seat while reading one of her books!!
Man Dark was one action filled, emotional, gahhh soooo many feels kind of read.
That’s why I love reading her books cuz I definitely don’t know what the heck is going to happen next, she loves pulling you along and then bammmm, the plot twists and turns and you have to keep reading to find out what the heck is going to happen…she is fan-damn-tastic at doing this to you!!!
DARK is book two of the DANGEROUS WEB trilogy that began in DUSK and concludes in DAWN.
Have you been Aleatha’d, ummm yessss I have!!!! lol
More secrets are revealed and we learn more of Lorna’s horrible past. With what she dealt with I’m surprised she turned out as strong as she is. Reid and Mason find someone from her past and go after him, leading to another doozy of a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to read Dawn.
Obsessively fascinating, and with dangerously twisted secrets lurking in the shadows, “Dark” by Aleatha Romig is going to enrapture the readers’ minds in its spectacularly woven web of treason, passion and everlasting love forever!
4.5 stars—DARK is the second instalment in Aleatha Romig’s contemporary, adult DANGEROUS WEB erotic, romantic suspense trilogy set in the author’s Sparrow Webs world. This is Reid Murray and Lorna Pierce-Murray’s continuing story. DARK should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliffhanger of book one DUSK. I recommend reading the other series in the Sparrow Webs World for back story and cohesion, as the current story line premise references things that have happened in the other trilogies.
WARNING: Due to the nature of the storyline premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Lorna and Reid) using two timelines (present day and twenty-six years in the past) DARK continues to follow in the aftermath of the abduction of Reid’s wife Lorna, and Sparrow’s wife Araneae. Rescued and recovering from their ordeal, Lorna and Araneae are unable to remember the events leading up to, and during their imprisonment but DNA tests and blood work reveal the duo had been drugged by a familiar formula, and the identity of one of the men involved. Working together with Lorna’s brother Mason, Reid goes on the hunt for the truth as Lorna’s memories begin to flash between the present and the past pushing Mason and Reid to avenge the sister, and woman they love.
DARK is a dark, gritty, heart breaking and emotional story line of abuse, betrayal, and revenge; secrets and lies; of power and control. The premise is dramatic, raw and haunting; the characters are edgy and tragic; the romance is provocative and intense but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines. Aleatha Romig pulls the reader into a tragic, tense and complex story of love, vengeance, and power.
Dark is the second book in the Dangerous Web trilogy and should not be read alone.
We find ourselves in the eye of the storm, in complete darkness, blind from all sides.
Dark is infused throughout this entire story. Dark thoughts consume Reid; revenge, remorse, regret, everything he should have done to help keep his wife safe and everything he will do to avenge her time captive rolls through his mind on a continual loop. Will he be able to protect her and give her the safety she needs move past this trama?
Lorna, while found, is also consumed by darkness. The dark hole that resides in her mind where memories are missing, the dark hole that resides in her chest connected to the abduction, and the overall spiral of darkness that seems to suck her down on a daily basis. Will she ever feel normal again?
While Lorna just wants to remember so she can feel normal and move forward, everyone around her keeps stating she needs to rest and needs time. These are the very last things she wants to do, as the darkness consumes her when she closes her eyes and she fears what will happen if Reid gets his chance to opportunity for revenge.
More twists and turn as the story weaves in and out from past to present. This book is dark; facing abuse, trama, and recovering from abduction. Looking at both sides of the victim and the loved ones who want to care for the victim, but both struggling through the recovery.
Who will Reid seek his revenge on and will it be in time to save Lorna from sinking too far into her own darkness? Jump into this intense suspenseful read and become Aleatha’d.
*I personally don’t do many trigger warnings, but there is a scene that is pretty in depth that could be trigger-some if you were ever a victim of sexual child abuse. So, either skip this part, or know this trilogy contains this subject matter.
My goodness!! This one kept me on the edge of my seat!! Horrible memories come to light, searching for the truth, and finally facing it! So many twists and turns! Aleatha Romig grabs you with this one! Holy Moly what a cliffy! Another awesome read!!
I’ve been Aleatha’d AGAIN!!! What a twisted book! It lives up to the title. This series is everything, and I’m once again in the mood to check out all the books in this universe. Aleatha’s writing is intriguing and addictive. She always gets me!

The Queen of Romantic Suspense is back with this dark, sizzling sequel to Dusk. Reid and Lorna’s story continues and the plot thickens. Trust me, you won’t see what’s coming! I highly recommend this series and can’t wait for the conclusion, Dawn, which is coming soon!
Dark is the second book in the Dangerous Web trilogy by Aleatha Romig. This book continues to detail Lorna’s journey of recovery after her kidnapping, as her husband Reid and the rest of the Sparrow family try to figure out who might have taken her and her friend Araneae. Because of the trauma and the possible chemicals that were in her system, Lorna finds it difficult to remember what happened during the captivity, so she has to lean on others to help her get through her recovery. This second book truly focuses on the care and support that Reid and their friends have for Lorna, and it shows her strong and resilient character as she faces her past. She doesn’t want to feel like a victim so she depends on Reid to help her feel normal, to remind her of their love and of her identity before she was kidnapped. She depends on her friends for a sense of normality, and she relies specifically on one of those friends Laurel for her medical expertise and advice. Lorna’s childhood is one that is full of pain and abuse, and she’s kept it secret from her brother but has also repressed some of the memories too. While Reid does a lot of the footwork here to figure out the people responsible for the kidnapping, Lorna is working through her internal struggles as she pieces together bits of her past. There is a lot of story building here in this book, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together in the third book.
TW: child/sexual abuse
Well, I didn’t see that coming! This story keeps building and taking twists when least expected. It’ll leave you hanging on the edge in anticipation of the finale.
I enjoyed this book, This was my first read by this author. One thing I wish I had realized was this was a trilogy, and 2 that I had read the first book because I feel like I would of had a much better understanding of the characters, history and back story. This was a good read but would of been better had I read the first book. I highly recommend it and would recommend this series. If you read it please make sure you read them in order. Can’t wait to reread this after I read the first book. It is a little dark and twisted but all in all a good read.
The darkness has prevailed with so many twist and turns it consumes you, Lorna is so strong but you have no choice but to worry what she’s gonna do next and Reid is FANTASIC even though his dark thoughts struggle to surface to protect the love of his life at any cost.
I can’t say enough how much their story impacts your every thought so so good. They come to life right off the pages.
Dark is the second book in the Dangerous Web trilogy. This title is appropriate for what’s written upon the pages. Aleatha does not disappoint in telling this tale; it’s dark, dirty, and dastardly. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, can’t wait for the finale!
My heart completely broke with this book, it’s a good thing Aleatha Romig knows how to put it together again.
What happens when you’re held captive but you don’t remember anything once your safely home again? Do you just go on like it didn’t happen, or do you try to get answers no matter what they may reveal?
This review is a little hard for me to do because I don’t want to give anything away but I wish I had been warned before going in that there was something that would not sit right with me, a trigger if you will. I have one and only one hard limit, and if you have been following my reviews you know what it is, when it comes to books and this book touched on that subject. Thankfully the chapters were titled and when I knew something was going to happen I could skip or skim through the chapter. I don’t like doing that and I honestly never do it, but after reading the first chapter with this subject I felt the need to do it with the few that followed. Did it take away from the story, not for me it didn’t, but, because I did skip/skim 2 or 3 chapters I felt I couldn’t give it a five star review.
Dusk, the first book in the trilogy, left us with a cliffhanger and we pick up where that one left off. Araneae and Lorna are home after being held captive with no memories of their time there. They cannot piece together the flashes they are starting to have, is it a recent memory or a memory from the past? That is the ultimate question when it comes to Lorna and Reid wants answers because NO ONE hurts his wife and gets away with it!.
This book also ends on one heck of a cliffhanger and I for one cannot wait to see how things turn out in the conclusion to Reid and Lorna’s trilogy in Dawn.
If you enjoy Dark Romance or Romantic Suspense then this trilogy is for you….but remember they must be read in order.
Happy Reading!!!
4 stars
As with the previous book Dusk from this new spinoff series from Romig’s Sparrow universe, I highly recommend reading the other books first. While these books may be read as standalones, I believe it will be hard for a reader to really feel a connection to these new storylines without first connecting with the backstories, especially in the case of Dark. This book picks up after Lorna’s return to the sparrows after a difficult ordeal. While Reid and team look everywhere for clues about her captors, Lorna struggles to overcome the turmoil of her abduction and the demons of her tragic past.
While the writing was deeply compelling, as is always the case with Ms. Romig’s writing, I struggled with this book and it’s content. It should definitely come with a trigger warning. I appreciate the fact that the author wants to deal with the subject of abuse and PTSD, etc but the events of Lorna’s past were laid out in horrifying detail which I imagine might be quite traumatic for some. I couldn’t get past some of it to really connect with the rest of the storyline and there’s still more to tell in the coming books.
Fans of Ms. Romig’s Sparrow universe will likely enjoy the story much more than I, as this is only my second book. As previously mentioned, the writing is superb, as usual and the characters very compelling.
