The beginning…The beginning is always the best place to start when reflecting on what has been.Thinking back on it, my life had been perfect.Middle class girl in high school with a happy home life.My life had been full of nothing but promise. Life was good.Everything was great. And then my whole world went to shit. In one day.The disease came first. Then the dead.It was a fight for my life every … the dead.
It was a fight for my life every single day from the start. But I was different from all the rest.
I had heard my mother’s screams while watching my sister become one with the undead. All the while feeling like there was absolutely nothing I could do to help them.
It killed me.
What’s more, it changed me.
I did everything I possibly could to survive on my own.
And then I learned how to survive with others.
By being their Queen.
Their Zombie Queen.
And by being the most feared woman they ever came in contact with.
This is a WhyChoose novel full of zombies, a sword wielding badass chick, and an army of dudes.
Recommended age 17+ due to content and language.

I love everything Brandy Slaven writes and this is actually my first read/listen of anything by Mary Martel (I have tons of her books and audiobooks in my library, but they definitely shot up in the queue)! I was pleasantly surprised by this read/listen because I am not a fan of zombies but I really enjoyed this story. I loved how strong Em was and how she slowly let her guard down after being on her own during these nightmarish times. I enjoyed the guys in this story as well, how different they were and how they tried to be there for for (despite being awkward and shy since they haven’t dealt with a non-zombie woman in awhile haha). I liked the dynamic that was created and thought this story had a lot of potential. I think for me, the reason I couldn’t give it a 5 star was because it felt like it ended suddenly. I didn’t get the intimate moments/steps towards relationship with Em and some of the main guys. I felt kinda cheated in that respect, not trying to be harsh. I just got so invested in this story that when things finally looked up it was over but she hadn’t cemented her harem by the end. If this was book 1 of a series or duet, then I would have given it 5 stars. But because of how it ended, I had to knock it down. I did enjoy it though; I think that is why I was so upset when my audiobook ended because I had gotten so invested
In terms of the narration, I thought both Kelley and Jeffrey did a fabulous job and I will be listening to more from them in the future. I thought each of them could improve their opposite sex voices, but that is my only constructive feedback. Solid 4.5 stars (rounded up because I enjoyed their inflections and their emotions were spot on when all the zombies were involved haha).
Can you imagine zombie apocalypse? Well you will after reading this book. How Em survived and how her survival goes from day to day. Very detailed. Some things however are underexplained as to her relationship with the guys, distrusting them but still wanting them. Still enjoyed the book.
I really enjoyed this book it was entertaining and combined my two favourite genres reverse harem and zombies, whats not to like? The heroine Emerald is strong and capable, but used to being alone, learning to live with others is a difficult challenge. I hope there will be more books to follow, because this could be the start of a fantastic series.
So this was my first Zombe book. They were never really a paranormal that I had much interest, however, I do like a kick-ass, fierce FMC and Em is definitely that. I liked the story and characters the reason I only gave it 4 stars is that I felt like the book flowed until then end and then it felt a bit rushed. It could have been expanded on a bit more.
What a great zombie read! Em is a badass, and her guys are great, Kemp is my favorite by far. I definitely want more of these guys, even though it has an ending that was all wrapped up it would be insanely amazing to have another book, with another crazy adventure and more steamy sexy moments to read with these characters. I seriously love these characters. Anyway, I definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good zombie read and likes a little RH.
For the love of zombies and all of their undead unholiness….Sign me up! I am going to try to explain how great this story is. The tag on this book is WhyChoose…so why choose? It’s the end of the world and the zombies have taken over, people! Em was a good girl with a good future ahead of her but that was in a past life. “I may be a sword wielding bad@$$ zombie slayer now, but before all of this….I was pretty much afraid of my own shadow.” Em has had to learn to survive on her own. She has taught herself to survive and to take care of herself. She is the ultimate bad@$$. The first real curveball thrown in the story is how she meets her band of merry men. I was like “whaaaaat?” It was craziness I tell ya! Then being witness to the story unfolding and how she gets to know all these guys is really impressive. This is not a hot and heavy reverse harem type of book, it’s so much more! I really love how the world building happened and how the characters unfolded. Nothing was overbearing or overdone. It was fast paced, full of action, with some hawtness thrown in…perfect! There are zombies and then there are monsters…of the human variety. People just don’t act right and those actions were loud and clear in this story. There were many many times that I rooted for Em and her crew out loud. Em has protected herself, not only physically, but mentally as well by not being a pushover little girl. She has a smart mouth, knows what she wants and has no problem letting them know about it either. I am going to give one tiny spoiler because it stems from one of my favorite lines in the book. Em befriends a grandma and she says “Suck on a d***, Grandma Death. I thought we were supposed to be friends but you’re a f*****g traitor.” I literally LOL’d after this. Em is a girl after my own heart. I hope their story continues because I need more!
I received a copy of this book from the authors for an honest review.
I have to start by saying I don’t read many zombie books but Brandy and Mary wrote it so I could not pass it up. Well and my BFF said I had to read it because it was amazing. Brandy and Mary did a great job and I enjoyed it so much. Em and her guys were amazing. Em is a kickass zombie slayer. She knows how to weld those swards of hers. She even has a thing or two to say to all these guys that end up invading her area. She does not need these men in her way or her space but they are persistent and refuse to let her do this on her own.
The Guys are great themselves. Each so different but get along like brothers well except Sam they all take a bit to warm up to him and trust him. Kemp what can I say he is such a roading man but when its just him and Em man do they steam things up even if its not in the shower. I like all the guys not sure I could choose just one.
If an apocalypse were to ever hit, I want to be with Em no way I could survive on my own. I love how Em could hold her ground no matter who it was she was up against. She was strong enough to make it through seeing what happened to her mother, sister and friend. When the swards needed to come out she never thought twice about it. The trust and loyalty Em and these guys have for one another was incredible.
This was fast pace, heart stopping, and packed with a ton of action. I found my heart racing and in a state of panic so many times during this book. I rally hope this story continues Mary and Brandy have me hooked on Em and her guys. I NEED more of Em and her guys.
A few of my favorite:
Note to self: that man has the potential to be more dangerous than the f**kfaces.
I hadn’t wanted anything for myself outside of simply surviving in a very long time.
Now it wasn’t so much about wanting to stay here, per say, but wanting to stay with them. Each and every single one of them.
Both Kemp and Em are crazy enough to stab them through the heart first and not bother to ask questions later.
“I can have an army of dudes and be a badass zombie slayer.”
Well, well, well…these two talented authors have written a great new book that is full of zombies, powerhouse female character and a variety of guys! The first couple of chapters were a little slow but this is where we get to know the FMC Emerald, and she is a little spitfire…crazy as hell, great with a sword, hilarious inner monologue and she know what she wants and goes after it! She sure keeps all the guys on their toes and I love that her nickname from Her Wild Man is Crazy . All the guys are very different and they all bring a unique background and interest to the story. I love the multiple POV as this is where you get to know them all..and where we get to see Em through their eyes. I am going to admit the Kemp is the fav, followed by Noble and Russ but the others are close by! This is a great book for lovers of zombies and bada$$ females that know how to use a sword with a big hint of craziness attached, push through the first couple of chapters to a story that is well worth the time to read it!
So I am a big fan of The Walking Dead. This book reminded me of that show so much. I literally felt like I was watching a show, about a kick a@@ female lead who was learning to survive in this new world where zombies were everywhere and what was left of humanity was evil. We follow Emerald on her day to day life as on her own. Little does she know that her life is about to change when she helps two strangers. She has always tried to avoid people, since her last encounter turned out so horribly. Can she finally find a place to call home in this dead world or will she continue to be alone.
Guys I meant what I said, Zombie Queen was like watching a movie with words. Everything starts out fast from the gate. I felt so bad for Emerald. You have to be a survivor to be in this new world and she definitly is. Think Machone, from Walking Dead. She is who I would want to be if something like this happened.
The guys, wow, I enjoyed everyone. You have all of these different personalities and uses in this new world. I do not really have a favorite, I liked them all the same.
Overall, Zombie Queen was a good getaway for myself. I enjoyed the characters, the world, the pace, and the ending. I really enjoyed everything about it. These two ladies did a wonderful job in this world and I hope to visit it again one day. This is a standalone as of now the authors have stated.
This book is so freaking good people!!! Definitely read this! I love post-apocalypse books and this one is amazing!! 5 stars for sure. Ok Emerald and Russ and Kemp and more oh my, so many yummy moments for Em and her men and man oh man her men!! Em is such a freaking badass and I hope I’m like her if the apocalypse ever happens, she survived and thrived and it’s glorious!! I really hope this author duo graces us with another story of the Zombie Queen it would be epic!!!
