This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are allowed to go outside.*** What the press is saying: ***Boing Boing’s … ***
Boing Boing’s Official Review: “This story is terrific. I was completely immersed, watching Howey slowly paint a picture of a society gone wrong through the eyes and discovery of some truly compelling characters.”
Wired.com’s Official GeekDad Review: “Howey is among a growing list of authors who are making successful careers of publishing without the assistance of agents and traditional publishing houses. The traditional argument has been that if a book couldn’t find a publisher it probably wasn’t worth reading. However, just as iTunes changed how consumers found music and the way in which bands made their bread, ebook readers, and in particular the Kindle, are changing the ways in which authors find their readers and make a living. All of this means the old assumptions about indie books no longer hold true, and readers need to be prepared to adjust their expectations accordingly. The Wool Omnibus is a great book and deserves recognition as a full fledged contribution to the science fiction genre.”
WOOL went from a self-published short story to a blockbuster New York Times bestseller in 2012 (New York Times, October 2012). The work has been translated into over 40 languages, and was picked up by Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox for a feature film adaptation.
Note from the author: This Omnibus Edition collects the five Wool books into a single volume. It is for those who arrived late to the party and who wish to save a dollar or two while picking up the same stories in a single package.
The first Wool story was released as a standalone short in July of 2011. Due to reviewer demand, the rest of the story was released over the next six months. My thanks go out to those reviewers who clamored for more. Without you, none of this would exist. Your demand created this as much as I did.

Wool is an instant classic. The dystopian world the writer creates is very well thought out and full of detail. Every character feels real and the outcome of a situation never feels rushed or predictable. Hugh Howey immediately became one of my favorite writers and Wool one of the best works of science fiction ever written.
I could not put this book down and read the whole series a a few days. It’s a very original story that will keep you enthralled throughout.
Can I get my money back? The story line is just too sophomoric and only serves to lead to the next book in the series.
I love the whole Silo Series.
This book (series?) started as a short story about a post-apocalyptic civilization living in a massive silo, protected from the toxic air outside. From there it grew into a larger story about secrets, control, and revolution. One woman learns a terrible truth about the government, but she is lost before she can share it. As her peers are starting a revolution against tyranny, she is trying to return home to help everyone survive. Great read.
This one really drew me into the entire series.
One of my favorite books ever.
Thought it would be better based on other reviews. Just not very entertaining or original.
I read this and although I found some of the earlier writing a bit weak I couldn’t stop reading. I was intrigued by his subsequent Silo series, especially the fact that other authors have taken the storyline and written their own add-ons.
You should do a special for the three book set.
This is an amazing Sci Fi book. I am starting to see it appear in “Best of” and “Classic Sci Fi” List. An engaging and brilliant story that is a dystopian pleasure. I highly recommend!
Found recently, quickly became an all-time favorite book series and author.
Very original. I have never read a series like it before (although I have started to see some impact in the SF world)
This was an excellent story that I came upon by luck. The title gives nothing away about the actual story. Not knowing what would happen or what could happen was great. It was very suspenseful throughout especially in the end. The idea of feeling trapped and desire to break free felt incredibly real.
A series of massive silos are buried underground and serve as the last home of humans on earth due to a pandemic that has wiped out the rest of the human race. Or has it? A fascinating premise for an amazing series. Stunningly creative post-apocalyptic thriller.
The next books in this series are also good.
I discovered this writer with this book and I have gone on to read many of his other books. A very entertaining and readable Science Fiction writer.
Very good read
This is a book about the future on Earth. I never read this type of genre nor do I like books that have sequals, but I couldn’t put this book down and couldn’t wait for the sequel. Amazing imagination!
This is one of my all time favorites. An original plot line. A world so well created and described that pictures from the story still come to me.
