This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are allowed to go outside.*** What the press is saying: ***Boing Boing’s … ***
Boing Boing’s Official Review: “This story is terrific. I was completely immersed, watching Howey slowly paint a picture of a society gone wrong through the eyes and discovery of some truly compelling characters.”
Wired.com’s Official GeekDad Review: “Howey is among a growing list of authors who are making successful careers of publishing without the assistance of agents and traditional publishing houses. The traditional argument has been that if a book couldn’t find a publisher it probably wasn’t worth reading. However, just as iTunes changed how consumers found music and the way in which bands made their bread, ebook readers, and in particular the Kindle, are changing the ways in which authors find their readers and make a living. All of this means the old assumptions about indie books no longer hold true, and readers need to be prepared to adjust their expectations accordingly. The Wool Omnibus is a great book and deserves recognition as a full fledged contribution to the science fiction genre.”
WOOL went from a self-published short story to a blockbuster New York Times bestseller in 2012 (New York Times, October 2012). The work has been translated into over 40 languages, and was picked up by Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox for a feature film adaptation.
Note from the author: This Omnibus Edition collects the five Wool books into a single volume. It is for those who arrived late to the party and who wish to save a dollar or two while picking up the same stories in a single package.
The first Wool story was released as a standalone short in July of 2011. Due to reviewer demand, the rest of the story was released over the next six months. My thanks go out to those reviewers who clamored for more. Without you, none of this would exist. Your demand created this as much as I did.

My husband and I started the audiobook during our cross country drive. I was hoping something sci-fi would get Seb to enjoy some fiction with me, but he soon wanted to go back to Podcasts. Several months passed. I went back to the audiobook and got sucked in as the story took a terrible turn that kept getting more and more crazy! It was gripping, original, and had me on the edge of my seat throughout.
The Post-apocalyptic genre at its best!
Beautifully written, great story and characters. I couldn’t put this book down. Excellent series.
Wool is simply a great story. Brief but engaging, it launched a world of spin offs by other authors. The science fiction component is so sound that a million books could be written in the environment that Hugh Howey created. It even inspired me to write my New Earth Trilogy. A must for any sci-fi reader.
Great series…
This was a wonderful read. I will read it again. Loved it.
I read this a while ago, but I still think it was a good read. Didn’t see it coming.
Howey is cult. This book changed my life and got me writing. If you’re unfamiliar with Howey’s work, drop everything and start reading now.
I purchased “Wool” after I started hearing the buzz about a new scifi writer and I’m so glad that I did. This is an incredible well-written story and does what every good story should do – leaves you panting for more! There are over 400 reviews for this story, most of them singing the praises for author. They aren’t wrong. This is one of the best scifi stories I’ve read and I will certainly be going back to purchase the omnibus. I want to read all 5 stories in a row! Highly Recommended.
After all the high praise, I was totally disappointed. Never expect too much.
This by far one of the most interesting and original sci-fi series I’ve ever read. The author does a great job of pulling you into the narrow, oppressive world in which the characters work to make their lives tolerable. As I progressed through the series and began to see the larger story unfold, I felt continually pulled between shock and amazement and could not put the book(s) down. Incredibly imaginative and eerily believable. Highly recommended.
This book (and the ones that follow) left me dreaming about this world. These books consumed my thoughts. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I don’t know what to say besides that I HIGHLY recommend this series. Read it!!
I picked this up right before bed thinking I’d just read a chapter or two, then finish it the next day…no. That is not at all what happened. I read the whole thing…and half of ‘Wool 2’. I went to sleep a little later than I intended, but it was definitely worth it.
This is an excellent little book and one that I absolutely recommend. I don’t see how it’s possible for anyone to be able to read this and not want to immediately pick up the next one. So glad I stumbled on this…it reminded me a bit of ‘The Giver’ which I first read 17 years ago in 9th grade, and is still one of my all-time favorite books.
I realize this series is geared more towards YA, but adults will have no trouble getting into the story. Curiosity is a human trait we all have, and I can’t imagine anyone not dying to know what exactly awaits Holston outside the Silo.
Liked the world building but it assumes too much technical ability in the status of the characters. Goes from sci-fi to fantasy at times.
Really enjoyed
Dystopian. Great character development and story. I have recommended to all of my friends.
Wool and the rest of the series is a different look at a post apocalyptic world.
I loved this book! The world-building is fantastic, you care about the characters and you cannot put this book down.
I don’t care for books that are broken up at cliff-hangers to make you buy the next short book. Even if they are good.
I’ve read this series a couple times now. Awesome worldbuilding and stories. Definitely recommend.
I’m reading it for the third time. I love how he leaves you hanging at the end of each chapter. You have to turn the page to find out what is next.
