This is the story of mankind clawing for survival, of mankind on the edge. The world outside has grown unkind, the view of it limited, talk of it forbidden. But there are always those who hope, who dream. These are the dangerous people, the residents who infect others with their optimism. Their punishment is simple. They are allowed to go outside.*** What the press is saying: ***Boing Boing’s … ***
Boing Boing’s Official Review: “This story is terrific. I was completely immersed, watching Howey slowly paint a picture of a society gone wrong through the eyes and discovery of some truly compelling characters.”
Wired.com’s Official GeekDad Review: “Howey is among a growing list of authors who are making successful careers of publishing without the assistance of agents and traditional publishing houses. The traditional argument has been that if a book couldn’t find a publisher it probably wasn’t worth reading. However, just as iTunes changed how consumers found music and the way in which bands made their bread, ebook readers, and in particular the Kindle, are changing the ways in which authors find their readers and make a living. All of this means the old assumptions about indie books no longer hold true, and readers need to be prepared to adjust their expectations accordingly. The Wool Omnibus is a great book and deserves recognition as a full fledged contribution to the science fiction genre.”
WOOL went from a self-published short story to a blockbuster New York Times bestseller in 2012 (New York Times, October 2012). The work has been translated into over 40 languages, and was picked up by Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox for a feature film adaptation.
Note from the author: This Omnibus Edition collects the five Wool books into a single volume. It is for those who arrived late to the party and who wish to save a dollar or two while picking up the same stories in a single package.
The first Wool story was released as a standalone short in July of 2011. Due to reviewer demand, the rest of the story was released over the next six months. My thanks go out to those reviewers who clamored for more. Without you, none of this would exist. Your demand created this as much as I did.

One of my favorite books in the last several years!
I love finding new authors to devour! Wool is a superb post-apocalyptic novel with creative dystopian world building and a dynamite heroine. Buying the second series now!
This is one of the best science fiction books that I’ve ever read. To say it’s original is an understatement. The author, Hugh Howey, was genius to give the first part (a story of its own) way for free to entice the reader. And entice it did. Humanity has suffered a terrible blow, and what is left lives underground in a massive silo-type structure. The outside world, they are told, is poisonous, and we see right away just how poisonous the outside world is. The population is forced to stay underground, in perhaps the most imaginative and impressive fictional bunker ever created. I don’t want to get into too much detail over what happens next, but all I can say is that the entire trilogy is awe-inspiring, and gives credence that Hugh Howey is a master at his craft. Smooth sailings, sir.
The Wool Omnibus is an amazing ride. The author builds the world slowly but in an intriguing way, giving readers a taste of this character and that background at just the right pace. The reader has so many questions, but they’re not distracting or frustrating because the characters and their problems are so compelling, and when answers begin to drop into place it just adds to the enjoyment of the stories. Highly recommended.
This is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read. It was outside of my usual genres so I almost didn’t try it but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It was one of those books I hated to put down, and as soon as I finished one book in the series I had to immediately get the next one. I pushed this book on a few others who, like me, didn’t think they would like it. But, like me, they loved it too!
After finishing the series I found there were many other books by various indie authors who made up their own stories based on this book and the world created therein. Some of these were also excellent. Hugh Howey was not only accepting of these additional stories, I think he even encouraged them.
If you’re looking for an extended series guaranteed to hold your interest, this is the one I’d recommend. You won’t be disappointed.
I highly recommend this series of books by Hugh Howey. The writing is great and keeps you reading, but they all leave you with questions that are left unanswered. He could write forever and never describe the whole story of what goes on in the Silo and how life in the Silo came about.
I so enjoyed this series that I have read, I think, all of the books in this series. They are very addictive, because there are so many things that you want to find out about the people in the Silo.
If you like science fiction and enjoy well written characters, you should give this a read.
Am a voracious reader and love finding new-to-me series to immerse myself in.
The best to date series I’ve ever stumbled on is Hugh Howey’s Silo series. Could NOT put it down and I learned quickly that one -can- run the Kindle Fire HD battery to zippo. Lol!
Now here’s my guilty secret… I love the Silo series so much I’ve actually read a large chunk of the fan fiction associated with it.
Howey has a superb touch for creating and maintaining tension, and you’ll be compelled to keep reading to find out the (surprising) answers to each new mystery.
Wool is one of those books that just stays with you for the rest of your life. It’s going to be one of those books that has a very long life, I do believe, because it just…haunts you. I found it on sale locally, and had to buy it. I have had the omnibus as an ebook for ages now, but to have the hard copy? That was something I couldn’t turn down. Give it a read, and lose yourself in Hugh’s fantastic world. It won’t let you go.
Really loved this book. I thought it was highly original and very well done. Want more!
One of my favorite dystopian series. Just found out there is an omnibus sequel to Wool – just bought “Shift” in Kindle & Audible! Highly thought provoking. Well written characters & “world.” Audible version is worth the investmest – outstanding performance! And will follow up with the “final” installment to the story “Dust.” Cannot wait to see what happens with several characters but especially the endearing Solo.
A must read!
Interesting twist on a post apocalypse setting. This book is stand-alone. However, the subsequent books in the series add a great deal to the story, and make for a very satisfying read overall. Highly recommended.
Great story, great characters, great imagery. Gripping from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read the sequel! Bravo, Mr. Howey, bravo!
Original & fascinating! The world these characters live in unfolds like an onion, going in unexpected directions. I love this author!
Great post-apocalyptic series!
I loved this series of books! I was completely hooked after only reading a few pages. This is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a community of survivors living in an underground silo. You must follow the rules.. or else be sent outside.
Once you start reading the Wool series of books, the first thing you’ll experience is how gifted and talented Hugh Howey is as a writer and spinner of tales. The second thing you’ll notice is how easily you’ll become immersed in the new world that you find among the pages of these books. Your imagination will awaken and you’ll find that you are there, that you are standing beside the characters of the books, looking into their eyes, experiencing what they are experiencing, feeling what they’re feeling. You become a part of the community, a part of their lives. As you read, you become lost in the words, eagerly waiting for the next page and the next, until you arrive at the end, elated, exhausted and wanting the story to continue. Be aware, once you start reading, you’ll find it difficult to stop. You want to know what’s around the next bend, what’s hiding in that dark corner. Long after you finish reading this book series, you’ll find your thoughts returning, to imagine and reimagine the experience.
Execellent. Interesting post apocolyptic concept
Engaging. Just the right quantity of character development with a complete arc, and that, too, within 58 pages, leaving you to ask for more. Read the first line and you’ll know the author knows art. Read the first para, and you’ll know the author has insight. It’s a page-turner.
