#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

SO GOOD! Edge of my seat reading….couldn’t put it down.
Powerful, moving, honest.
Required reading for anyone considering a long hike. Sadly, the narrator is not terribly likable. Still a decent read.
While hiking the Pacific Crest Trail has been done by many, it’s not for wimps, and a young woman, hiking alone, was an attention magnet. After reading this book I found more author and enjoyed those also.
Great!
Very much enjoyed this tale of her adventure on the trail.
She was flawed, therefore, relate-able. Some simple advice that people who are just starting to hike can take to heart. I felt like I was on the journey with her.
So blah. Very predictable and just not good.
This woman was more emotional than brave. It was not a smart move to go on a hike that long before planning ahead. I had no sympathy for her nor would I recommend.
Strayed shocks frequently enough with her honest confessions to keep your attention and to be on the lookout for the next surprise. Her prose is alternately raw and lyrical. An author who has marshaled her pain and neglect into a wordsmiths gift.
Not that believable
Not the best writing in the world but made me want to get out there an hike!
LOVED this book. I was sorry to finish it. I felt as if I just lost a friend. After reading this book I met some hikers who were joking the trail. It was super interesting with the background. A must read even if you never went on a hike!
Cheryl Strayed has done a great job of building a career as a writer based on her childhood abused by her parents and others. As a hiker I was turned off by the ridiculous approach to her journey. Not a good role model for inexperienced hikers seeking “to find themselves.” One can get into a lot of difficulty hiking alone, in sparsely populated …
I can honestly say that I don’t get what all the hype was about – I truly didn’t care for this book. I was more irritated with it than inspired or entertained. Definitely not my cup of tea.
I love the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed the book. Her challenges she faces not only before her hike but during are like various obstacles we all face in life and she just chose to use her struggles as strength to get through them. The book actually compelled me to go and buy my backpack and supplies and go hit the trail! Something I had been …
Challenge and isolation and nature heal a likable character with big problems.
Pretty good. She missed a portion of the John Muir Trail, because of the heavy snow, still an impressive feat.
I would recommend A Walk in the Woods or Into the Wild over this book
A great read. Very literate, entertaining, and engaging.
