#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Hiking is something I enjoy. I experienced a divorce and could imagine myself hiking the PCT. Unfortunately, I had a full-time job and a child to raise. I admired the author’s bravery and loved reading about her adventures. I took a vicarious hike with her.
Wild was a ‘coming of age’ story for any grown up who is grappling with just trying to deal with what life throws at you and be a true Grown Up. Funny, honest, poignant, this is a great read. And gives one permission to be a total mess while having to keep it totally together, in the face of a HUGE objective. The moral of the story? When we …
Good book. I had wanted to read it for years.
Give it a go !!
I have the utmost respect in Strayed for taking on such a challenge, but I found that it was an uphill journey for me to even get through the pages. Through all of her detailed descriptions of the places she was experiencing, I couldn’t help but think, “guess ya had to be there.” It was an interesting read, but not my favorite to be honest.
Not overly impressed with the main character, loose morals!
It was different than I thought it was going to be…I believe she learned a lot about herself & that she was a very strong person
This was a tough one to rate. I enjoyed the book but there was so much self obsession I would have to take a break from it.
“Wild” is one of my favorite books and one that I continue to pick up and reread on occation….Cheryl Strayed’s story on how she overcame aspects in her life is nothing if not totally inspiring !
Great story telling and relatable, coming to terms with your past and taking control of your future story. Life isn’t kind and we are all just doing the best we can. A great re-telling of a non-religious spiritual journey of self.
unrealistically stupid main character
With a few hard truths about grief, childhood trauma, and life as an American woman, this book won’t appeal to every reader. It’s a complex read, intensely personal and thus not always fully relatable — which may be partly the point. As a hiker for whom 6 miles is “pushing it,” what I appreciated most about the memoir was its allegory to life: …
This was a great read; it gave me “badass woman” vibes, even when things weren’t going so great for Cheryl because I knew she would push on and keep going, which made me want to push on and keep going until I finished the book. She was relatable and honest about herself which I admired and respected. I adored the people she came across and became …
It was too slow moving and I didnt carebenough about thr main character to be pulled into the story
This is a favorite of mine.
Her stamina and drive to take on this mission.
I didn’t think she always made wise choices.
It was eye opening though. Such drive to keep going. I did admire that.
I awe of anyone doing this
Really great book and loved the wild ride along with it.
Starting on a month long hike with absolutely no background or knowledge is a pretty daunting thing to do. Reading Cheryl‘s story about her experience was a lot of fun and very educational. I know for a fact that I never want to hike as for Long or as far as she did!
One woman journey. Worth reading
This book made me want to get out there and hike the Pacific Crest Trail.
