#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection: This special eBook edition of Cheryl Strayed’s national best seller, Wild, features exclusive content, including Oprah’s personal notes highlighted within the text, and a reading group guide.

Another favorite for this years reading list. I am obviously obsessed with books about long hikes, I guess it is something I wish I had done in this lifetime. This book was fascinating going back into her childhood, the way she was raised and the people who influenced her. She had to become an independent person at a young age.
After the death of …
The day I finished reading Wild, I flipped it over and started reading it again, something I’ve never done in my life. I read it a third time a few months later. The impact of Strayed’s personal journey and growth as she was tested and challenged by walking the PCT taught her more about inner strength and facing down fears than any other life …
I enjoyed this book so much that I was sad when I finished it. Reading about a real life adventure has always been a favorite read for me. Being a low risk personality type, I think that I vicariously live through the adventures of others, like Cheryl.
I was amazed at the honesty and strength of the author. At one of the lowest points of her life she was able to set a goal of walking the trail and to do it. Not many would be able to expend so much energy without previous training.
Same stuff over and over repeat book I have not sceen the movie maybe that might be better than the book.
Not an obvious choice for a book that made me laugh out loud, but a truthful one. Strayed avoids the pitfalls of most I-went-on-a-journey-to-find-myself memoirs and writes instead a book that is by turns thought provoking, tragic, and hilarious. So much better than Eat, Pray, Love! I almost missed out on this one because of other, self-indulgent …
Packed with adventure.
Cheryl makes you want to grab your hiking gear and hit the PCT. Cheryl details how she found her true self while walking over a thousand miles along the Pacific Crest Trail after a tremendous family loss.
Told in an entertaining yet tragic way, Cheryl takes us on a journey through the roughest, yet most transformative years …
Torn up by the loss of her mother, Cheryl Strayed decided to hike hundreds of miles along the Pacific Coast Trail, marginally prepared for what faced her. Into the narrative of her journey she interweaves stories of her life and her mother’s death with the day-to-day physical agony of walking the trail in ill-fitting boots and weighed down by an …
Filled with unexpected wisdom and everyday insight. The depth and width of this personal journey is not to be missed.
I had trouble relating to someone who would set off on the journey the went on & was little prepared, and through luck, often she survived & finished the journey, But it was an interesting journey
Probably a minority opinion: I was troubled by the seemingly masochist manner that the author chose to work out her issues. Somewhat surprised I finished the book. It really did not sit well with me.
It wasn’t my personal favorite but my bookclub loved it. Saw the movie too. It was realistic.
If you haven’t read this book yet, and you love adventure, I highly recommend it! Very inspiring for solo travelers, women and other adventure seekers. The movie didn’t do it justice at all. When I read the book, I felt like I was right there with her with every step of her journey — that’s how great her writing is.
A fine story of one woman’s chosen quest.
Wonderful
A woman, the call of the wild via the Pacific Rim Trail, and adventures. I was truly sorry when the trail ended and thus the book.
This book challenged me to see if I could still backpack. I could–but not this much! But it is an interesting look at an example of what a long hike is about, both dos and don’ts. She weaves her trip stories with her life stories, part of which is the passing of her mother at a hospital in the city in which I live. I could have done without her …
I enjoyed the story line, but found the reading to be slow many times.
Loved the book even though the author/ star of the story is not exceptionally likeable, the book would not have ‘worked’ without her imperfect determination.
The author attempts and completes a daunting trek.
Her personal life is another matter.
