#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.
Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection: This special eBook edition of Cheryl Strayed’s national best seller, Wild, features exclusive content, including Oprah’s personal notes highlighted within the text, and a reading group guide.

Wonderful book! Her account of her journey is very gripping and honest,
I read about 3 chapters of the book and decided not to waste any more time on a book where the author dwells on addiction and starting out on a long back packing hike along the west coast totally unprepared. Read A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson – it is much better.
One of the best recorded accounts of a real life adventure. The encounter builds character and resolves issues for the author and primary character. She steps off the pages and into your heart as the reader cheers her along .
Found this to be a bit self indulgent but an interesting read.
A realistic, page turner, about what it means to actually make a VERY long trek along our western area of the USA(from Mexico to Canada), when probably not 100% prepared.
Underwhelming
This book works on so many levels, and succeeds each time. People are motivated to do things in different ways, and this character’s challenge of the Pacific Crest Trail was extraordinary. The character, the view of the wilderness that still exists, the myriad challenges and dangers and heartaches she had to overcome all revealed a depth that …
Right book at the right time. And so well written!
Nothing is trite in this journey. A young woman’s life is derailed when her mother dies too young. Courageous, determined, that is our protagonist. She re-sets the compass of her life, which could well have gone another way.
I remember this book vividly, several years later. What better testimonial could I give?
I loved this book. It had adventure, it made me cry, it made me laugh. I wished I had the courage to do what Cheryl did.
A good source to learn about hiking a major trail…alone. Justifies women with strength and courage.
I cannot say enough about this book. It’s absolutely one of the most inspirational books I’ve ever read. This author has more courage in her little toe than I have in my entire imagination. I read this book years ago and STILL think about it. This book, and this woman, are amazing. It is a must read!
inspirational
“Wildly” overrated.
I liked the compression of life passages/changes in the short time it took her to do this journey.
Did not expect to like this book. Was very pleasantly surprised. Was well written and more than “today I hiked…”.
Inspiring
Excellent great characters, good detailed descriptions!
Fun read, especially if you’ve done any backpacking or have interest in the PCT. Great how the author weaves her life story into the challenge.
