#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Wanted to love this but found it a bit too self-indulgent lacking wisdom.
Really enjoyed taking the journey
I’m fascinated by the stories of thru-hikers and really appreciated the telling of this story. She’s a brave woman. It’s clear that a journey like this is an opportunity to do some tremendous soul searching and bring healing to a life.
true story that was a page turner to share along with the characters. Good adventures!
Cheryl has written a stunning book about her efforts to find herself after a period of self-harming behaviors. Her dogged determination to “hike her hike” is quite compelling. Well worth reading given its inspirational message.
Book much better than the movie!
One of my all-time favourite reads. Cheryl Strayed offers an honest, funny and haunting memoir of coming to terms with the loss of her mother and with her own dysfunctional life by setting out on an epic journey.
After seeing the movie, I decided that I needed to read the book. I could not imagine an inexperienced woman putting herself through all of this stuff in the movie. I thought some of it must have been poetic license. Nope. She really pushed and pushed and pushed herself some more. Cheryl’s journey showed true spirit of what is possible when you …
Somewhat disappointed. I think this book was recommended and it was difficult to understand why the character reacted the way it was portrayed.
Very original, well-written
I enjoyed reading about this young woman’s courage strength and determination.
If you love hiking, you love this book….
What hype over a tedious, navel-gazing diatribe! I actually sort of wanted her to get lost or starve, because I was tired of trying to find a plotline. Needless to say, I’m not picking up anything else by this author. I hope she found what she needed in the journey and ruminating. I didn’t find anything particularly helpful — or even hopeful.
Great book, very inspirational. A should read for everyone.
I am amazed at how much she shared!
Not a great writer
Good read, brave woman.
Sheds more light on the background for the actions of her brother from the book Into the Wild. When I read Into the Wild I spent days thinking about the book and it’s tradgic ending. This book doesn’t answer all the questions but shines a light on the family’s dynamics.
Fun adventure
I would describe this book as gritty.
