#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLERAt twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest … the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

I haven’t been given many nicknames in my life, but half of them incorporate the word “wild.” I feel like a hundred people have recommended this book to me. Some recommendations have been because I’m a frequent hiker and camper who might enjoy a memoir about one of the two longest trails in the continental US. Others have been because, like the …
I just finished watching the Gilmore Girls revival and was reminded how much I enjoyed the book Wild. I read the book a little over a year ago and loved it! After her life kind of falls apart, Cheryl decides to do something dramatic – hike the Pacific Coast Trail. This is a true story of adventure, achieving a goal, self-realization, and …
Sometimes it’s best to not have a clue what you’re in for and you learn along the way. A very interesting journey and one the author needed to take. She learned a lot and seemed to reinforce what she knew about herself. Really enjoyed the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book and especially since it is based on a life experience from the author, Cheryl Strayed. I do advise, Do Not Watch the Movie, Before you read the book !
I love the idea of hiking and adventures when a person is working through personal problems or life events.
A very good read!
Honest and open story of a woman taking on a major hike with no experience, driven by inner forces and a past that she needs to overcome. She builds strength every step of the way.
I know I’m late to this party. But I finally read WILD and it’s really such a hopeful story of a woman whose life is a trainwreck but who manages to press on regardless and find her way. Made me want to hike the Appalachian Trail even though I actually don’t want to do that at all. 🙂
It seemed like everyone but me had read Wild, but I resisted because I wasn’t sure it would be for me. I finally decided to give it a go after I read a brilliant and poignant essay by Cheryl Strayed about her mother’s death. I was so touched by the raw emotion she was able to convey in a short piece that I wanted to see what she could do in a full …
Simply put, it is one of the top ten of all books I have read Cheryl is a hero in my book and in my daughters also. I urged every woman I know to read this book!
Wild is Cheryl Strayed’s emotionally gripping account of survival through the devastating loss of her mother and the spontaneous and uninformed decision to hike the Pacific Crest Trail through California and Oregon alone at the age of twenty-six. Strayed’s tale is brazenly honest, highlighting the highs and lows of the decisions her grief led her …
Cheryl Strayed wrote an unforgettable book. Too many people have said this is ‘chick lit’ but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Men will love this book just as I did.
This is a really gutsy book, and it’s great gift for young women looking to find themselves. Heartbroken over the loss of her mother, the parent who was her soulmate, Strayed leaves the man she married very young. She comes across as a person truly torn between taking care of others and taking care of herself. But she takes off any way and hikes …
A book that makes no apologies for telling it like it is. A raw and emotional account. Loved it.
When I look at the title of this book the song “Born To Be Wild” comes to mind. I’ve always liked the music but I never identified with the lyrics. I’m not a wild child. In my high school yearbook my friends wrote “stay as sweet as you are.” I didn’t smoke pot or take LSD, I tried cigarettes in college but I didn’t like the taste of smoke and I …
Great book! I highly recommend it.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. I read this long before the movie came out. In fact, I spent an entire weekend alone, reading this book. It had so many incredible tales in it that reminded me of things I had experienced (although I’ve never been a hiker) and it is so well written. It’s as though you are right there with her. Do yourself a …
What a delightful book. The author takes the reader on the Pacific Trail with her, allowing the reader to share both her wins and losses. It is truly a remarkable journey of hardship that leads to major changes in this troubled woman’s life. I have recommended it to dozens of readers.
This is an unusual coming of age story. As a backpacker I couldn’t believe the things she did on the trail and her naivety. whether you’re an outdoorsman or not you will enjoy her tale of self-discovery on the trail, and what drove her to seek solice in nature.
“Wild” is one of my all-time favorite memoirs. Cheryl Strayed gets you with her words and pulls you in right with her as she recounts her journey on the Pacific Crest Trail. I have recommended it to many friends.
I lost my mother too soon, so the beginning of this story is exceptionally spot on for me (hence, the tear-jerker description). I found Cheryl very relatable as a character and an author!
I found this story all the wonderful creative words that could possibly be thought of.
It was funny, heartwarming, sad, entertaining. I couldn’t put it down until it was finished and then I wanted more.
