This collection of short, action-filled stories of the Old West’s most egregiously badly behaved female outlaws, gamblers, soiled-doves, and other wicked women offers a glimpse into Western Women’s experience that’s less sunbonnets and more six-shooters. Pulling together stories of ladies caught in the acts of mayhem, distraction, murder, and highway robbery, it will include famous names like … Belle Starr and Big Nose Kate, as well as lesser known characters.

Chris Enss writes books about women in the American west. They are fun, fact filled, and in some cases funny and tragic. She is unique and her books are fun and they always break new ground.
Great insight into some of the women who, in their own way, helped shape this nation. Interesting to learn more about some of the ‘whys’ of the choices they made for their own life and the choices that were forced upon them by the society of the day.
Very interesting about true people of the old west.
More please.
Gossipy HISTORY book…sensationalistic but fun
I love to read about history and I like the unusual history. This book has stories of strong, intelligent women who did their lives they way they wanted.
Very interesting historical book. Well researched. Interesting, tough and colorful women who played the hand they were dealt in life.
Good history lesson!
The book seemed to be well researched. I found it hard to put the book down. Well worth the time and effort to read.
Even though it is nonfiction about these women, it was a bit boring reading.
Interesting background on both notorious and not so well known persons in history
The book had interesting stories of western women. Somewhat boring in that there was no action.
Fun read. Gave me empathy for the women’s plight in the early west.
A real inside view of the women who lived in the past.
Fun, fairly short narratives about ladies you’ve never heard of but will be happy you did! Some of them were tough, some skilled (at things men usually did), some were savvy business women, some were fascinating, and many were taken down by their love of a man. Overall these stories made me wish I’d known them. I realized I knew next to nothing about the women who went West and settled the U.S., and I truly wish some of their lives had been taught in history class back when I was in High School. As it turns out, everything wasn’t done by men!
A good read.
Did not really enjoy it after the first few bios. They all started to sound the same.
Characters were too sketchy-not enough description of motives
Very interesting and surprising. Very much would recommend it to my friends and anyone who likes unusual historical data.
Historical, interesting women of the west history
