Thanks to their large extended family and unconventional courtship, the Worthingtons have seen their share of scandal and excitement. But nothing has prepared them for this…The Dowager Lady Worthington isn’t quite sure what to make of country-girl Dorothea Stern. As the granddaughter of the Duke of Bristol, Dotty is schooled in the ways and means of the nobility. But her sharp wit and … sharp wit and outspoken nature has everyone in a tizzy. Especially their cousin, Dominic, the Marquis of Merton.
Prematurely stuffy, Dom was raised by his cheerless uncle to be wary of a host of things, including innovation, waltzing, and most perilous of all: true love. Still, there’s something about Dotty, beyond her beauty, that Dom cannot resist. But the odds are against him if he intends to win her as his bride. Will he choose loyalty to his family—or risk everything for the one woman he believes is his perfect match…

Dotty is a strong willed young lady who enchants our hero and sees him when no one else does. She helps him find himself and become a better man. A beautiful story.
I won this book from Goodreads and am I writing this review at my own choice. I had read other books from Ella Quinn and this book lives up to the wonderful writing I have read of hers. This story is about a young woman who comes to London to have a season with a close friends family and since her mother couldn’t come because she broke her leg. She believes in the causes of the time which dealt with the poor and hungry and women. This was just after the Neopolitan conflict. The Marques was raised by an uncle who thought that these people made their choices. He was having to find a wife because he was taught it was his duty to do certain things. Little did he know that this young woman would change his whole outlook on life, love and the world around him.
Excellent! Couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. Finished it in 2 days. Strong heroine. She knows more about what’s going on in the real world than he. He learns to love through her. Highly recommend this book.
This story continues on from Three weeks to Wed the first Worthington story but could be read alone. Dorothea Stern best friend of Charlotte Carpenter thinks she can’t travel to London as her mother has broken her leg. Grace & Matt, Earl & Countess of Worthington invite Dotty to stay with them. Dotty promises her parents that she won’t take any waifs & strays to the Worthingtons, something Dotty is apt to do as she believes everyone needs a chance.
Dotty is welcomed with open arms but floors their stuffy, cousin Dominic, the Marquis of Merton, he’s never seen anyone so beautiful.
Dom was raised by his maternal uncle who believed a Marquis had to do his duty & love & compassion had no place n his life. Dotty rescues a litter of kittens & so Dom finds himself the owner of two of the kittens. Dotty rescues a little boy stealing an apple. Dom can’t refuse her & gradually Dom begins to question whether his uncle Alistair was correct.
As the granddaughter of the Duke of Bristol, Dotty is schooled in the ways and means of the nobility. But her sharp wit and outspoken nature has everyone in a tizzy
A heart-warming story which reminded me of Georgette Heyer’s Arabella, although Dom is nothing like Mr Beaumaris. Dom didn’t suddenly change his views overnight but it was a gradual process. Dotty or Thea was very likeable, quite headstrong & forthright. Good to meet the characters from the first in the series too. Dom started out as a self-righteous prig but had changed by the end of the story into a likeable character. Definitely looking forward to Charlotte & Louisa’s stories & also a hint for the Dowager Countess?

Dorothea Stern – Dotty – and Charlotte Carpenter (Grace’s Sis – #1) are longtime friends and have always planned on making their debut together. But on the eve of traveling to London, Dotty’s mother broke her leg.
As soon as Charlotte took notice of the event, talked to her sister, now Countess of Worthington and this immediately invited Dotty to be under her responsibility. After all, the house was already full (and under renovation), what is the problem of having one more person?
In London, it is when Dotty is introduced to the Marquis of Melton, Dominic, Matt’s cousin.
Everyone in the family considered Dom too pompous – and he really was. Raised by Uncle Alasdair, he cut off relations with all progressive and politically liberal people, including Cousin Matt.
But Dom, who was in the city looking for a wife, was enchanted by Dotty (but not by her name, and calls her Thea).
Thea (or Dotty) could not be more different from Dom.
He was an only child, she had siblings.
He was Tory (Conservative politically), her father and friends were Whigs (Liberal) and she sympathized with their politics.
For Dom’s mother, Dotty was the perfect choice for her son, a young lady who was not afraid to give her opinion and help the needy. Her son’s life would be extremely boring if he chose one of the ladies from his previous list of brides-to-be.
From Dom’s courtship in Thea, a number of situations happen that force him to do things he would never have thought of, and at the same time make him see the real situation of the poor of the city, and how his political position is only benefited the rich – like him.
The couple was cute together.
