“Has there been a more sympathetic monster since Frankenstein’s?” —Financial Times
In Warm Bodies, Isaac Marion’s New York Times bestselling novel that inspired a major film, a zombie returns to humanity through an unlikely encounter with love.
“R” is having a no-life crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he is a little different from his fellow Dead. He may occasionally eat people, but he’d rather be riding abandoned airport escalators, listening to Sinatra in the cozy 747 he calls home, or collecting souvenirs from the ruins of civilization.
And then he meets a girl.
First as his captive, then his reluctant house guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl—although she looks delicious—he wants to protect her. But their unlikely bond will cause ripples they can’t imagine, and their hopeless world won’t change without a fight.

Wow! Never in my life would I have thought that I would enjoy a zombie romance.
Yes, this is a zombie romance. No sex, thank goodness. I don’t think I could have handled that. But here’s the thing… Although it has a bit of gore, it’s not really about zombies; it’s about the zombie “condition.”
If you saw the movie, it’s nothing like the movie; …
Absolutely love how weird and unusual this story is. The writing drowned my eyes in a sea of conscious absurdity that I wanted to stay buried in forever.
Nothing like I expected, which is GOOD!
Although it’s about zombies, it really isn’t. It’s a great insight into the depths of the mind and whether a soul can change.
A little slow in the middle, but overall it was still excellent!
I’ve watched the movie so many times because it’s my favorite zombie movie but I didn’t get the chance to read the book until just recently…and I’m so glad I did!
Isaac Marion is one heck of a unique storyteller that every single word he uses is so momentous. He pulls the readers into a realm of unimaginable possibilities and instills in our …
I loved the movie and found the book to be better (of course)! I’m not big on zombie books, but this was a great read!
One of my all time favorite books and one of the few books with an amazing movie adaptation! Totally recommend to anyone who loves zombies but without the gore!
One of my all-time favorite reads I love to go back to and always refer is Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. If anyone thought that decaying bodies (AKA flesh-eating zombies) didn’t couple amazingly well with “love” and “romance,” they were wrong!
This book tells the story of a teenage zombie who falls in love with a living, breathing, human girl. It …
I absolutely love this book.I’m reading it again because it’s just a really good read.
One of the few books I’ve read multiple times.
Having seen the movie first, I thought this was a very cool take on a well known love story, while turning the zombie trope on its head. This is a lot darker than the movie, but I thought that only added to the book’s atmosphere. The writing is very poetic, and draws in the reader.
Another Zombie tale, but from a unique point of view! Witty, great characterization, insightful, the misery of this story is cushioned by hope.
I was a little thrown off by the constant switch between R’s thoughts and Perry’s memories. But I do get why it was written that way. The jumbled up style added to the impression of what a zombie might think like. The idea that love could save even a zombie is a great one. I was entertained throughout the book and am excited that there will be a …
Teen romance with zombies. An update to vampire romance, but it’s hard to get into someone falling in love with a rotting zombie.
