Pete Brooks can’t believe he’s waited an entire year for Jess Tagg to return to Montana, only to have her break his heart by getting engaged to her ex-fiancé. Worse, a series of mistakes on the job have cost lives, and Pete isn’t sure he wants to continue to work in Search and Rescue. Maybe if he can just get over Jess, he can figure out how to move forward. EMT Jess Tagg has returned to Montana … to Montana to finally give her heart to Pete, but it seems he’s no longer interested. When a terrible fight between them sparks an impulsive decision, she finds herself crashed on the side of a highway along with Esme Shaw. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get any worse, she and Esme are taken captive and into the untamed Montana wilderness–with murderous intent.
Now Pete and the other PEAK Rescue Team members are in a race against time, the elements, and the actions of a vengeful man. Pete will have to use everything he’s learned to find Jess and Esme–and pray that his past mistakes don’t cost him the life of the woman he can’t stop loving.

“I’m talking about God’s love, Pete. You gotta starting trusting in God’s love for you. For Jess. Lean into it. Let it change you. Let it set you free.”
Pete Brooks is a risk taker, a rescuer, a real life hero, . . . . . . but he may have blown it when he walked away from the woman who asked him to wait. Now with her life on the line, he is expected to work alongside her once real, now fake fiance? Or is it once fake, now real fiance? Just what kind of hold does Felipe St. Augustine have over his Jess?
Jess Tagg took a big risk coming back to Montana, even for a weekend celebration among friends. Her temporary life, away from the spoils of a scandalized New York socialite, had been blessedly peaceful. But, it’s Pete. It has always been Pete. It will always be Pete, in spite of the rumors circling through the tabloids. But did she confuse him one too many times, and will she ever have the chance to make things right? At the moment, she is fighting for her life and praying to the Lord above that Pete will come to her rescue. Again.
What a magnificent finish to a series that many will read over and over and over again.
Outdoor action is always part of Susan Warren’s books and Wait for Me is no exception! Pete is always ready to rescue someone in danger from a car submerged in the Meramec River in Missouri to kidnapped friends in the mountains of Montana! Selene Tess wants to make everyone happy but sometimes that is impossible. Tess and Pete are excellent protagonists as they fight to rescue each other when they are hurt and lost near Glacier National Park. All of the members of the PEAK team from other Montana Rescue books make appearances in Wait for Me! Pete who likes to be in control learns to let God be in control of his life. I highly recommend Wait for Me and the rest of the Montana Rescue series to anyone who enjoys contemporary action books. I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. This is my honest opinion.
The final novel in the Montana Rescue series is as action packed as the other books. In this story, Jess returns to explain herself to Pete – why she is engaged to another man – when they have a huge fight. Jess grabs a ride with Shae Johnson and her boyfriend which begins a journey of terror, pain, and finally understanding. Shae is a witness to a murder and is afraid that she is being followed. When their truck is forced off the road in the wilderness, she is certain that she has been found. With all three of them injured, they fight for survival in the Montana wilderness while Pete and the rest of the PEAK Rescue Team race against time to find the missing trio. This story has action, suspense, romance, and a “twist” that you may not see coming. I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher. This review is my own honest opinion of this book.
*My Thoughts*
No reader wants a favorite series to end. It’s like saying goodbye to a good friend. That being said, Wait for Me was the perfect ending to an amazing series. It honestly was so worth the wait!
I had some conflicting thoughts about Jess in this book. I hurt for her as she showed up in the earlier books, but in this book, I started out a bit frustrated with her. I just found myself having a hard time understanding her. Sometimes she felt like the “victim” and sometimes I was angry with her actions. As the book progressed, I started to get what her part was in the story and enjoyed their story more. Susan did a fabulous job of making her the sweet heroine we wanted while keeping her “human”.
I am convinced that Pete is everyone’s favorite hero. Sweet, kind, and forgiving, Pete’s wounded but strong spirit left us coming back for more through the whole Montana Rescue Series. Getting glimpses of his and Jess’ complicated relationship throughout the series left us hanging with Susan’s usual knack for suspense. Through the story, we were able to see relationships and broken spirits mended in the way only a last book can accomplish.
Most importantly, this book had what we all want…closure. We all love the suspense, but at the end of the day, we want a book that makes us sigh when we reach the last page. And sure, every author wants that sigh to mean we’re sorry the series ended, but more importantly we want to feel like it ended as it should. Susan gave us the story we wanted, while still wrapping up the story with a beautiful bow that leaves us aching for her next work of art. I, for one, can’t wait!

*My Rating*
I give Wait for Me by Susan May Warren…
5 stars!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I had been eagerly anticipating the conclusion to the Montana Rescue series, and Susan May Warren did not disappoint with Wait for Me. The story does stand on its own, but I would highly recommend reading the rest of the series, which sets up Pete and Jess’s story.
Pete Brooks has been waiting for a year for Jess Tagg to return to Montana. She had told him that she loved him, but she’s been holding him at arm’s length while she deals with some things in her past. He’s afraid that she’s going to break his heart, and he’s not sure how long he should wait for her. In the meantime he’s been leading search and rescue teams, but things haven’t gone entirely according to plan there either.
Jess finally returns to Montana, but to complicate things a little, her ex-fiancé soon follows. Pete no longer seems interested in a relationship with her, and Jess finds herself running away. That decision puts her in a truck with another young couple. When their truck is run off the road, they find themselves literally on the run for their lives in the Montana wilderness. Pete and the other PEAK team members begin a race against time to find and rescue them before it’s too late.
I was hooked from the very first scene, a water rescue attempt that went wrong. I couldn’t put the book down until I found out if everyone survived and got a happy ending or not. (That doesn’t usually happen if a love triangle is involved.) I won’t give any spoilers, but I loved how it turned out and I would definitely read any follow up books that Susan May Warren might write. My only regret was that this was the last book of the series.
I would recommend Wait for Me to anyone who enjoys books with lots of action and adventure mixed with clean romance. Her characters are very believable and real, and I felt like I knew them by the end of the series. Even though they may have made mistakes in their pasts, they find grace and forgiveness and don’t have to be bound by them.
I received a review copy from the author and publisher, but the views expressed here are entirely my own.
(4 1/2 stars) I found “Wait For Me” (the 6th and last book in the Montana Rescue Series) to definitely be more intense than the previous books in this series. Susan May Warren always has challenges, struggles (both physical and spiritual), growth (emotionally and spiritually), and major obstacles to be overcome. This is obvious, I guess, since the theme of this series (and others) is that of rescuers and victims and everyday heroes.
Pete has been a favorite of mine since early on in this series so I really looked forward to “his story” and hoped for a sweet reconciliation and reunion with Jess. And, wow, Wait For Me took me on an incredible ride! HOWEVER, I have to honestly say that I struggled big time with Jess for at least 3/4 of the way into this book…perhaps longer. I honestly felt like perhaps Pete should find his inner strength and move on without her. His moments of weakness and “relapse” were so minor in comparison to the great efforts he put forth in proving his love to Jess. Whereas her weaknesses seemed to show a general weakness of character or, at least, an uncertainty in her love for Pete.
Pete’s struggles were emotional, spiritual and intensely physical in this book. It took a nearly ultimate loss for Jess to wake up — but when she did it was beautiful and righteous.
Ultimately I believe the message of this book was about finding our worth through love — how the acceptance and love of others can help us to find our value but ultimately, of course, it is only the unconditional love of our Savior that truly leads us to a place of peace with Him, with others and with ourselves.
I was given an advance copy of this book for an honest review and this opinion is fully my own.
Oh, the feels!!! Usually, when a book is as anticipated as Pete & Jess’ story, it has a bit of a difficult time measuring up to all of that anticipation. Not so with Wait For Me! It was every bit as awesome as I was hoping it would be. Pete fell for Jess a while back and he thought the feeling was mutual. Then Jess left with her ex-fiance to try to right some old wrongs. But when communication stops, what is a guy supposed to think? When Jess is re-engaged to her ex-fiance, all Pete wants to do is heal. But wait, what if all is not as it seems? Jess too, just wants to get back with Pete, and when she comes back to tell him just that, he seems to not want her. Through Jess & Pete’s struggle we get the bonus of the wrap-up of Esme’s story, as well. This is a read that will not disappoint, especially if you have already been reading the series and waiting for Pete & Jess’ happy ending. This book is the quintessential blend of a perfect ending to a great series, and the sadness that comes from it being all done. Once again, Susan May Warren weaves it all together to make a spectacular book!
I received this book from the author free of charge and all opinions expressed are my own.
An epic finale to a fantastic series!
It has been awhile since I had read the previous books from this particular series. Vaguely did I remember the other characters, but fortunately having read them wasn’t necessary. I was still able to enjoy the book and the plot, while in the back of my head the names of the other characters were very familiar.
The story has a lot of flashbacks, to give us the background as to what went on with both Jess and Pete during the year they were separated. It helps to tell the story from both sides, and then where they ended up now.
There were some areas where I did flip aka fly through, just to get to the gist of the story. Especially the last part when they were lost in the wilderness. I will admit, I had a moment of gasping with the plot twist. Unexpected, but welcome.
It was a great end of a series and I now look forward to lining up all the others and restarting from the start. This series is definitely worth a read.
I received this book from Revell publishing and was happy that the publisher gave me the opportunity to read it.
Finally, the thrilling conclusion to the Pete and Jess story, plus finding out how the Esme/Shae plotline ends!
In addition to all of the exciting adventure we can expect from Ms. Warren’s novels (especially this series), there’s a bit of backstory to help fill in the blanks of what was happening in Pete’s and Jess’s lives when they were offstage in other books.
Jess has to learn to quit trying to please others and make decisions for herself, instead of just passively letting others choose for her. While it was sometimes frustrating to wait on her, this book helped us to understand her better.
Pete has to let go of past demons to break through his barriers and accept what love truly means. While I love a good-hearted, charming character like him, I was impatient to see him grow up. He must learn that while being an impulsive risk-taker can be dangerous, it is part of who he is, and he can’t let his impetuous nature be an excuse for his behavior.
I’ve truly loved this series and waited anxiously for each book to get released. It’s a little bittersweet to see it end, but satisfying to finally see Pete and Jess overcome their obstacles and accept where they belong. And, of course, to have closure with Shae. Plus, we get cameos from all the other PEAK characters that we’ve come to know and love!
I received an advanced publisher copy in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.
Wait For Me has been a book we have all been waiting for since we first met Jess and Pete. Will they get their happily ever after or will they both be too stubborn to see what is right in front of them? Only time and reading this book will answer those questions. Of course this book takes you on a thrill ride that won’t turn you loose until the very end. When you hit the last page you’re sitting there like wait, it’s over? Does it have to be?
This is one awesome ride. From rushing flood waters to racing through the back woods of Montana this is one thrill ride you better hold onto your hat for. Pete and Jess are forced to realize they need friends and also they need to rely fully on God to get through this adventure that could very well be their last. Susan May Warren hooked you from the very first line and refused to let you go. I highly recommend this book along with the others to see how their family grows over time.
This book is aptly named, because I’ve been waiting for Pete and Jess’s story for a long time. What a satisfying ending to a great series! Susan May Warren’s characters are so realistic, authentic, and endearing, and they just take any adventure she deals out to them and roll with the punches. And what some punches she dreams up for them! I honestly couldn’t believe all the hair-raising things they had to go through to get their happily-ever-after.
Pete is an amazing hero—so brave and courageous, but also so self-effacing and guilt-ridden. Jess is the poor little rich girl who is actually in her element in the Montana mountains. I had a little trouble understanding some of her actions, and felt that if she really was serious about Pete, she’d have tried a little harder to stay in touch with him. The side story of Shae and Ned added an extra dimension to the story and put closure to Shae’s part in the series.
There were a few places where flashbacks confused me a bit, as I didn’t feel they were delineated well enough. Much of the time, I couldn’t tell where they began and ended. There was also a lot of backstory in the book, which would help if the reader hadn’t read the previous books but was a bit redundant otherwise. Other than that, it a was typical well-written, exciting Susan May Warren story. The fast-paced action started on the first page and kept up nonstop to the end. There’s a lot of action, some intrigue, suspense, and a bunch of romance, with some redemption, hope, faith, and mercy thrown in for good measure. I’m definitely looking forward to Warren’s next series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This book is just full of wonderfulness. Non stop action, not quite sure who the enemy is and many misunderstandings. Jess and Pete are both stubborn and lost especially with fate working against them. The danger they faced made them realize they need to put fate in God’s hands, once they do things work together for good. I am sad that this journey is over. The characters become like friends to you. I do hope to see these characters in the future. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Wait for Me is the conclusion to Susan May Warren’s exciting Montana Rescue series. I’m sad that this is the end. It’s become one of my favorite series and I’m gonna miss these characters who’ve come to feel like friends to me. But, wow, what a way to end!
This is finally Jess and Pete’s story. They’ve had an off and on relationship since the first book and I’ve been so anxious for them to settle things once and for all. And my goodness, this book brought all the feels! It was almost impossible to put down. There was so much suspense and a foreboding sense of danger. The stakes felt higher. There were twists and turns that I did not see coming. I couldn’t read it fast enough.
I seriously can’t recommend this series highly enough. It’s perfect for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
Wait for Me by Susan May Warren is the final novel in the Montana Rescue series. Each book of the romance adventure series focused on a couple facing seemingly insurmountable odds, both personal and situational, In book 6, Pete Brooks is forced to exam his history to understand its impact on himself and on his relationship with Jess Tagg, who he has not seen in over a year.
While Pete is struggling with self-examination, Jess Tagg is struggling with her own issues. Coming from a very well to-do family, Jess also struggles with a controlling mother, who has been diagnosed with a debilitating disease, and a father who committed a crime that devastated many. It is Jess whose testimony sealed the guilty verdict for her father’s case.
In the meantime, a story thread that has run through each of the six books is Esme Shaw, a young woman who had disappeared after witnessing a crime and the murder of her boyfriend while still a teen. In book five, Esme returns home tired of running scared, fully aware that the murdered may yet come after her.
Having survived a tremendous crash off a mountain, Jess and Esme find themselves kidnapped and dragged into the dangerous wilderness of Montana. The PEAK Rescue Team is called out and determined to find the two women, none more than Pete Brooks.
I highly recommend Wait for Me! I’ve been reading this author’s books for a number of years and she always provides great stories.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions, therein, are solely my own.
Every time I finish a book by Susan May Warren I am convinced that it is the best one she has ever written and somehow or another, she surpasses it with the next one. Surely it was not humanly possible to write a novel better than Storm Front or Troubled Waters… but she did it again! Wait For Me took the suspense and action up more than one notch as far as I was concerned. If I was not sympathizing with Jess and Pete or feeling their pain, I was holding my breath as they entered one death defying situation after another.
The Montana Rescue series could not have been wrapped up in a more satisfying way. All the loose ends from the previous books were tied up into a neat bow and everyone who belonged together ended up that way. I will definitely miss all the PEAK team and their friends and associates but I rest assured that the author is already at work on another series just as awesome as this one. Not to say that I will be especially patient as I wait for the next book. Hope it won’t bee too long!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the author. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) I really really wasn’t crazy about this book, and it may have had to do with the fact that it was the 5th book in this series and I had not started from the beginning but I can honestly tell you that when I have had done that before, not the norm with me, After I started reading I have no desire to go back and start at the beginning I was bored, there was a lot of characters and chaos and going back in the past..Eventually Jess the main female character and Pete the main male character ended up together after a lot of ridiculousness. Didn’t give it a two, because the writing was well done, just not my cup of tea.
Wait For Me is the final book in the Montana Rescue series. This romantic suspense novel is a must read!!! This book will answer any remaining questions you have from the previous books. The main focus of this book is on Pete and Jess’s relationship. Of course, there has to be some suspense too. After Pete and Jess come in contact with each other in Montana, Jess catches a ride with Ned and Shae. Once in the car, they are run off the road and captured. Who is behind this and why are they doing it? This stunning conclusion will leave you guessing to what might occur next. This book will update you on characters in the other books and also provide more to Ned and Shae’s relationship. If you have enjoyed the other books in the series, you will not be disappointed in this book. If you haven’t read the series, you can read this as a stand-alone book, but will enjoy reading the series in order. I highly recommend this book and the entire series!!! You will not be disappointed! Be prepared to read all night!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, I have purchased her books before.
Hold on to your armchair, it’s a bumpy ride! Susan May Warren designs a spectacular ending to the Montana Rescue series. Not only is the saga of Jess and Pete wrapped, but we learn more about Ned and Shae and previous characters. With one danger after another, the series concludes with a shocking and satisfying end. More importantly, our favorite characters find peace and begin healing.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
“True love—unconditional love—declares you worthy just because it chooses you. And there’s nothing you can do about it.” (pg 150)
We finally get the conclusion of the Montana Rescue series with Jess & Pete’s story! As bittersweet as that is, I feel it was the perfect ending to such an amazing series!! This one had plenty of action and heart-in-your-throat moments, tempered with a romance that’s been brewing for a long time. Both Pete and Jess struggle to overcome circumstances that have kept them apart for more than a year, things well beyond their control and plenty of misunderstandings to keep their feelings at bay. That is until Jess, Esme, and Ned are run off the road, fight to survive, and are held hostage in a remote cabin in the Montana wilderness where they are forced to meet their problems head-on…IF they survive!
I’ve longed for a happily-ever-after for all the characters Warren has introduced to us to from the beginning. I just didn’t know what I was in for and what a ride it has been! Not only are there great characters, but more importantly there are deep spiritual truths that God has whispered in my own heart. It’s like finding precious gems the author has hidden for the reader to discover. For example these lines stood out to me:
“That’s what love does right? Shows up and sticks around, even for the hard stuff. Keeps its promises.” (pg 322)
“She too knew real love. The kind of love that forgave and showed up and chased and forgave again and kept showing up, loving her when she didn’t have the courage to love back. Love pursued. Love forgave. Love believed. Love sacrificed.” (pg 287)
That’s not only true love between a man and a woman, but the love God has for us. He’ll pursue us, love us and has already sacrificed Himself to show us how far He will go to win our hearts! I loved seeing how each person in these books has grown in their own walk with God through the hard stuff & the easy stuff too. It changed them and it changed me too!
