Pete Brooks can’t believe he’s waited an entire year for Jess Tagg to return to Montana, only to have her break his heart by getting engaged to her ex-fiancé. Worse, a series of mistakes on the job have cost lives, and Pete isn’t sure he wants to continue to work in Search and Rescue. Maybe if he can just get over Jess, he can figure out how to move forward. EMT Jess Tagg has returned to Montana … to Montana to finally give her heart to Pete, but it seems he’s no longer interested. When a terrible fight between them sparks an impulsive decision, she finds herself crashed on the side of a highway along with Esme Shaw. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get any worse, she and Esme are taken captive and into the untamed Montana wilderness–with murderous intent.
Now Pete and the other PEAK Rescue Team members are in a race against time, the elements, and the actions of a vengeful man. Pete will have to use everything he’s learned to find Jess and Esme–and pray that his past mistakes don’t cost him the life of the woman he can’t stop loving.

Have you ever found yourself lost, struggling, physically or mentally?
So many characters in this story have these feelings.
They don’t know what the day will hold or if they can handle it.
They also don’t feel worthy of love from others, and constantly feel the need to measure up to a level of excellence which many don’t even achieve.
The what-ifs are always speaking loud in their heads, and they have a strong desire to please others, even at the cost of sacrifice to their lives.
This book like so many other books of Susan May Warren is packed full of action and suspense. It doesn’t stop! It was like a roller-coaster, you think, “Oh I can breathe now,” but then BAM there’s more! There are so many twists and turns it just keeps up until the very end. Pete and Jess are the main characters, yet in this story, we find some many more. I loved how we are introduced to some new characters and got to see what’s happening with the old friends. I enjoyed this because they have all become like family to me.
I’ve read this whole series and it always amazes me how we can see Susan May Warren’s heart in her writing.
She has the heart to share God’s love with all who read her books, and this story continues with to show her desire.
In her author notes she shares the true feeling behind this story and at the end, she says, “God is our rescuer. He won’t give up on us until he’s found us and brought us home.”
This is actually how Pete feels regarding all he does in life, but mostly these are his feelings for Jess.
Whatever Ms. Warren writes I’ll read because I know I’ll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
Wait for Me is a strong conclusion to Susan May Warren’s Montana Rescue series. And it is a series that I don’t want to end.
In this last book, reckless rescuer Pete gives all of himself to show Jess how deep is his love for her. It was wonderful seeing how much Pete has grown and matured since the first book in this series. Pete models a Christ-like love that doesn’t give up on us though we repeatedly turn away. What resonated most to me was Pete’s unwavering love and adoration of Jess through repeated ups and downs.
Jess is trying to make up for betraying her family by being amiable as to her family’s expectations of her. Her guilt drives her to try to become the daughter that they desire, even though she really knows in heart who she loves and where she needs to be.
This book is fraught with one suspenseful event after another. No one writes suspense like Susan May Warren. In fact the entire series full of nail biting moments. In the other books, PEAK rescue team members, Ben, Sam, Gage, Ian, and Ty chase tornadoes, are lost at sea, survive flash floods, snowboard rescue through the mountains, are kidnapped or being chased by bears or unknown attackers. This group grabs your heart and won’t let go. I highly recommend the entire series.
Susan always writes suspenseful Christian heart lessons through the lens of grace. I will miss her people. I hope to see them again somewhere in her coming books.
I received an ARC from the publisher for an honest review, the opinions are entirely my own.
‘I might be less apt to blame myself if I actually believed that God was on my side, that I wasn’t a screw-up that had it coming.’
Susan May Warren finally gives her loyal readers Pete Brooks and Jess Taggert’s story. And what a story it is! We have suffered with, trusted for and longed for this couple for several books now. Warren delivered magnificently with their own book, too.
Pete Brooks has always felt like a screw-up, always jumping in, putting his life on the line, never stopping to think what might be the consequences of his actions. But he loves Jess Taggert. Loves her in a way he didn’t even imagine could be possible. But Jess has hurt him so much. She has promised to be there for him several times and yet several times has left. Pete doesn’t think he can handle anymore, doesn’t believe any reason Jess gives him will be enough to soothe his pain. But he can’t get this woman out of his heart. She has a permanent place there, no matter what she does.
Jess Taggert has always just wanted to not cause pain to anyone. She doesn’t want to be the cause of anymore problems. Ever. She can’t bear to hurt anyone else again. Even if she destroys her own heart in the process. She just can’t grasp the fact that she can’t please everyone all the time. Even if she tries and gives it her all, somebody is going to get hurt. But she loves Pete. She loves him so much.
This couple has had a place in my heart for several books now. When I first met them, I wanted them to have a happy ending. But oh, the pain they endure. Susan May Warren always manages to pack so much emotion in her books, it’s absolutely incredible. We FEEL the pain these folks are going through, are right there in the danger they face, and believe me, there is plenty of danger here, for someone is stalking them in the desolate, wintry woods. And she also manages to include such a powerful spiritual thread in the midst of all this emotion. God is our rescuer, not someone else. We just have to trust Him and lean into Him and allow His sweet peace and healing to flood our hearts. This is the message here. We may think we know the best way, but God truly does know the best way.
We see more of Shae Johnson here and Ned Marshall and we also meet a few folks that I feel, at least, I hope, Warren will give us more of in a future book or books. Because I think they have a story to tell. I never, ever miss a Susan May Warren book and they all sit proudly on my shelves. Definitely worth a re-read, all of them. Highly recommended.
