In a world where addiction is encouraged, one girl must fight to stay clean…As one of the last Untamed humans left in the world, Seven’s life has always been controlled by tight rules. Stay away from the Enhanced. Don’t question your leader. And, most importantly, never switch sides–because once you’re Enhanced there’s no going back. Even if you have become the perfect human being. But after a … being.
But after a disastrous raid on an Enhanced city, Seven soon finds herself in her enemy’s power. Realizing it’s only a matter of time before she too develops a taste for the chemical augmenters responsible for the erosion of humanity, Seven knows she must act quickly if she’s to escape and save her family from the same fate.
Yet, as one of the most powerful Seers that the Untamed and Enhanced have ever known, Seven quickly discovers that she alone holds the key to the survival of only one race. But things aren’t clear-cut anymore, and with Seven now questioning the very beliefs she was raised on, she knows she has an important choice to make. One that has two very different outcomes.
Seven must choose wisely whose side she joins, for the War of Humanity is underway, and Death never takes kindly to traitors.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I didn’t like this book. Then I did like it. Then I didn’t like it. Then I did like it. By the end I liked it enough to buy the second book. I really like the main characters. I did not like so many deaths of the untamed. I spent a lot of time confused while I was reading. But I kept turning the pages to find out what happened next. You’ll just have to read it for yourself and decide.
I was provided an Advanced Reader Copy from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.
Untamed by Madleline Dyer was a unique perspective on a dystopian story. The characters were likable and the story moved at a fast pace. I enjoyed the first installment in the “Untamed” series.
In Seven’s world there are two types of humans; Enhanced and Untamed. Seven is Untamed. The Enhanced hunt the Untamed in an effort to convert them, feeding the Untamed concoctions to enhance any feature one could imagine making them into “perfect” humans. The Untamed view the Enhanced as human robots with no emotions or thoughts of their own. They fight hard to hold onto what little is left of a normal humanity. So many Untamed have been captured and converted. A raid on Seven’s home village has forced her and a small group to go on the run. During the raid, Seven learns that she is a powerful Seer. Will her new skills help to save all this is left of humankind?
I felt like I fell into the middle of the story… no back story, no real ending.
Wasnt too sure about this book but its characters quickly won me over
This was just bad. No real plot other than one group of people running from another for reasons not made clear. Yes, I know some are enhanced and some are untamed but there’s no real building of either world. No one has a distinct personality. The “love” story is “this guy’s annoying and might be a bad guy” to “I only feel safe with you” with NO emotion or development. Seriously, I’ll read anything, but this was just so darn bad. People write about her being a strong female character, but she had no characterization, no personality, and no real strength shown. She just kept getting saved by others and showed no agency. And the more I write, the more I realize that I hated this with the heat of a thousand suns. I cannot recall the last time I read such a bad book. Do NOT waste your time.
A good adolescent read–light with a futuristic appeal–fell very short of dystopian novels such as Hunger Games or Divergent series.
One of the few books that I couldn’t finish. Might be OK but just could not get engaged. Got to the “I’m done” point.
This was an awesome dystopian book. The author has a way of pulling you in and you feel like you are really experiencing what’s happening. Totally stayed up all night to complete this book
The basic idea of the book is extremely original, which is why I gave it a try. I didn’t like the author’s style, but it is very much a matter of taste not ability, so if the storyline appeals to you go ahead and give it a try. Who knows, you might end up hooked!
Plodded along and ended with a cliffhanger
I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.
This book is somewhat reminiscent of [uglies-by-scott-westerfeld], which was fantastic for me because I love that series. The dystopian/post-apocalyptic genres are a couple of my favorites, and the fact this book adds some paranormal twists to it makes it that much better. I seriously enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next one!

I read UNTAMED “blind”. I had no idea the genre of the book, didn’t look at the cover, never read a synopsis, just jumped in. WOW.
A couple of things that struck me. The fact that it speaks of addiction so clearly. The basic theory that “they are bad and we are good”. The overall feeling of elevating ones status to justify behavior.
This book was a different dystopian style than I’ve read in the past. It took a different look at the how(s) and why(s) of how people evolve and transcend basic needs.
I would recommend this book to my younger cousins and friends alike.
Untamed by Madeline Dyer is a fascinating book that reminds of of the book, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It also seems to be a message for the current population that are addicted to drugs. In this story, there is a group of people who are “Enhanced”, that is, they are using chemicals that take away their free will and give them a false sense of security and superiority. This group feel that they know what is best for humans, or Untamed, as they are called. It seems that they are the only ones who know what is best, like big government taking over the free will of people. This is similar to the story line in Brave New World. Fortunately for mankind, there are people out there who resist losing their free will and fight back.
Will they overcome? Will humanity survive? This is a well written story. The plot and characters are well developed. This story will keep you guessing about the outcome of the Untamed people with free wills.
I received this book as part of a Quirky Blind Date with an author. I always review every book that I read. I am glad that I was given this book.
Untamed was a great genre crossing blend of dystopian and science fiction. A great YA read that is fast paced and a bit noire. The world is divided up between The Untamed and The Enhanced. Seven, our protagonist, is a strong survivor and wonderful to follow as the chapters fly past.
The subject of addiction was very well done, with the right amount of time spent covering and properly handling the issue. I truly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the others. The world was not completely explained, mystery’s were not all revealed in this, the first book, but the building of the atmosphere, surroundings, and fully fleshed out characters never left me wanting.
This was eminently captivating and I absolutely recommend it!
