Twenty years ago Angus James woke to find himself in a sterile room. On the other side of the locked door, doctors worked to manipulate a virus, using him as their ultimate pin cushion. He was supposed to be dead – and there were moments over the next two decades when he wished he was – but despite his torturous existence, he remained a fighter. Through pain, love, loss, and heartbreak, Angus … traveled a road that took him on a journey much bigger than the room he was confined to. As the world moved forward without him, he fought to hold onto as much of himself as he could, determined to make it out of his prison a whole man.
Outside the walls of the CDC, Angus’s family worked to move on. But between the dark rumors surrounding the man in charge and a twisted new religion that threatened to turn their lives upside down, starting over has began to seem impossible. With more and more of the freedoms being stripped away, and more devastating losses piling up around them, the group found themselves wishing they’d never set foot in New Atlanta in the first place.
And wondering if leaving was even an option
Travel back with Twisted Memories and experience the emotional journey Angus James was forced to take during his twenty years as a prisoner. Discover how he came to be a father, what he did to stay sane during his long confinement, and how he managed to earn his freedom.

Once again we step into the Twisted world with Twisted Memories. Twisted Memories takes us on a trip down memory lane as we learn the fate of Angus from Broken World and that he is alive and…well, hmm… not well exactly. Angus has been at the CDC in New Atlanta for the past years being put through one test after another.
Meanwhile, in New Atlanta, the James name is sort of worshiped by the people for what Angus did to save the world. The James’ name is revered by many. Anyone who carries the name James is also put up on a petal in some way or another.
You know I never would have thought that this series could get any better but after reading all the Broken World books and now the second book in the Twisted series I can say without any doubt that they just get better and better. I can’t get enough of this world and like The Walking Dead, I hope it never ends.
I love zombies and can’t ever seem to get enough of them either. And the world-building is out of this world. Not to mention all the characters and all the new ones we are introduced to in each book.
Each book is written in such a way that I can see all the scenes in my head as I am reading as if I am a part of their family and this world. I see it in my head as if I am standing with them as the zombies come out to play and then we all get surrounded and I am looking out into the crowd watching as they fight their way through the zombies. There are times when it is hard to tell the live people from the undead as I can imagine all the blood and gore.
I feel sort of like a narrator as I whip my head around from side to side trying to locate all my favorite characters wondering who needs my help. Like who do I need to give a heads up to next? Who is about to be bit? Who do I give warning to now? I can see all this in slow motion as I stand there with machete in hand waiting to see what is coming next and where Vivian, Axl, James, and the rest of the crew are going. Once I step inside this zombie-infested world I am lost as I take yet another journey through a broken and twisted world.
I highly recommend Twisted Memories to all those zombie fans out there. One-click your copy of Twisted Memories today to begin this epic journey down memory lane! I would like to suggest that you read the Broken World series before reading the Twisted series.
With Twisted Memories we get a glimpse of our grumbling hero Angus James from the Broken World Series…..Twenty years in the future! Angus has endured many many years of torture at the hands of the evil Doctors that made and released the virus that killed millions. It’s very hard to believe any human beings could be so Twisted in their own minds to not only unleash this horrible virus, but to continue to mutate it to suit their own sick fantasies of what a perfect world should be.
By the end of this book readers, you’ll be screaming for more! One creepy thing after another crops up in the pages of this tale of what this little piece of the world is going through at the hands of psychopathic Doctors. What lies ahead for our survivors of Broken World? How much more can they take and will they be able to save those who are still trapped behind the walls of the CDC? Man I love this Series!!
I enjoyed this book in the Twisted series. This book fills in all the gaps between the Broken World series and the events in the first book in this series. This is a series that would best be read in order and I do believe that this series works best when read after the Broken World series. I have been kind of obsessed with this group of characters this year so I was delighted to have all of my questions about what their lives have been like and what really happened answered in this book.
Angus James came to Atlanta to save the world. His immunity has made him a precious commodity. Even though he came willingly and wanted to help, the CDC told his family that he had died and used him for one experiment after another. 20 years of experiments. We also get a chance to check in with Axl, Vivian, Jim, Al, Lila, Josh, and Parv. A lot has happened in 20 years and not all of it was good.
This book covers a lot of time. A lot of the story happens before the events of Twisted World and I did have a moment or two when I wondered why the author chose to wait until the second book to share this information but I don’t think it would have worked well any other way. I hated hearing some of the things that happened to these characters. They have been through so much and it just seems wrong that they had to deal with the kind of evil shown in this story.
I thought that Heather Firth did a great job with the narration. This book is told from a lot of different perspectives and there a lot of characters that play important roles. I thought that she did a great job keeping all of the voices consistent and I never had any difficulty recognizing the speaker. I also think that she does a great job of adding emotion to her reading. I had no problems listening to her narration for hours at a time.
I would recommend this series to others. I feel like I have been on quite the journey with these characters and was very happy to find out what happened to them over the years even though a lot of it was heartbreaking. I look forward to reading more of Kate L. Mary’s work.
I received a review copy of this audiobook from the author.
Twisted Memories: A Broken World Novel (Twisted, Book #2) by Kate L. Mary and narrated by Heather Firth is a dark entertaining listen. I recommend this series, starting with book one, if you enjoy the darker side of things or are a fan of zombies/post-apocalyptic books.
This book took me by surprise as I thought it would continue where book one left off, but it does not and that’s OK (I was so excited to get to the next book, I didn’t read the summary). Instead this book ventures through the memories (good and bad) of those involved but we didn’t see much of in the first book. It answers any questions you may have about them and how they came upon their current situations. It leaves you at the end of events for book one. Stick with it even if you are unsure in the beginning and I promise you won’t be able to put the book down once the stories start to unravel.
I’m really enjoying Kate’s books- the writing is smooth, characters interesting, world building is great, and the darkness, well it’s a perfect blend.
The narrator, Heather Firth, did an incredible job. Easy to listen to.
I highly recommend this series for the zombie/post-apocalyptic fans.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: Spoilers are kept to a minimum here….stop now if you do not want any…This is for adults and adults who can tolerate the darker side of life. If you do not fit this, stay away because this book series is not for you.

Death, experiments on people, drugging of people, shooting, repeated rape of a male subject by female doctor, swearing, relationships that are not healthy/toxic.
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
The first book in this series takes place 20 years after the group from the Broken World series, Vivian, Axl and co, finally find perceived safety in Atlanta. I liked it very much, but was longing to know what happened in those intervening 20 years. This is the book I was waiting for!
Best of all is the character of Angus James, the Merle Dixon of Kate L Mary’s zombie world, who is imprisoned for experimentation at the CDC after it’s discovered that he’s one of the few people in the world who are immune from the virus. I felt every tear he cried, I’m sure I did, and his strange relationship with the icy cold Dr Helton kept me completely engrossed. It’s one of those books that’s so frustrating, because you, as the reader, can see the peril that the cast are in, and you want to scream at them, ‘Go back to Colorado! Now! Just go!’ Of course, that I felt so strongly shows how good the characterisation and general storytelling is.
I very much liked some elements of the sinister practices going on behind the Atlanta population’s back, such as the orchestration of an uprising, leading to a couple of deaths, so that the evil Star’s government could put new, restrictive laws in place under the guise of keeping the people safe. Something that *many* think happens in the real world….
The pain of the characters I’ve grown to know so well was heartrending, and some of this book was the very best stuff I’ve read by this author. She has a real knack of choosing exactly the right POV for each part of the story, and really seems to understand that sometimes a not fully informed, third party account of another character’s situation can tell the reader so much more than the actual words.
This is an excellent book; my only slight complaint is that it seemed a bit rushed at times, with some areas needing more detail; I thought it might have been better stretched over two books, as I didn’t get a feeling of time passing. But I still loved it, and the fact that I would have liked it to be two books instead of one says it all, really.
