Wwhy must we wait till 2019 for the next book?
Oh, my god!! Amy Bartol certaintly outdid herself with this book. It was ridiculously action packed, with so many twists and turns. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. I screamed at my tablet a cohple of times.
You cant really talk much without giving spoilers, but I will say this, “TEAM REYKIN is my life!!”
Hawthorne step over, please, and lets make some room for the man we all seriously love.
I wish time would jus hurry the hell up now. I need Rebel Born NOW!
So good!
This book was amazing! So much going on! Was definitely not expecting a cliff hanger. Love Reykin, can’t wait for Rebel born to come out.
While this sequel isn’t all that I hoped it would be in terms of storyline and character. I enjoyed the second book more than the first and will continue with the next installment.
She did it again. Bringing her readers ever further into the world of intrigue, conspiracy, and fates, Roselle is surrounded by enemies and doesn’t know if her friends are really that or foes. Everywhere she turns is a plot to kill her or to assassinate someone in her family. I will say that this one left on quite the cliffhanger; so watch out for that last step! I do have one negative. For all the analytical thinking, clear logical mind that Roselle has, she is so stupid with her family. It’s annoying. How many times do they have to try to kill her, snub her, reject her, betray her, etc before the girl will stop trying to defend them? It gets old. She says her father was never kind to her, yet she tries to talk to him. Her brother continually tries to kill her and himself, yet she say “you don’t know him. He want like this 10yrs ago”. Ummm, she doesn’t know him. She mother . . . don’t get me started. I guess the girl is a closer when it comes to her family, but come on. She had no contact with them for 10 years, some of these reactions are just too much. Minus her family optimism, it’s a great read.
Secondborn Roselle has been put in a position to overthrow her mother. The leaders of the Fates and the leaders of the rebellion have reached out to Roselle to join them. A plot is being devised to get rid of the caste system and this is sometime Secondborn Roselle would like to see happen. Overthrowing her mother, though, would also mean killing her brother Gabrille, and that is not something Roselle is poised to do.
In the meantime, 3, first born males are finding themselves falling in love with Roselle. This is against the rules, so they keep their desires for her a secret from the Fates. However, all three are determined to protect her no matter what. Roselle, who can handle herself, finds herself persued not only by potential suitors, but by assassins that are sent by her mother who wants her dead.
Constantly in fear for her life, Roselle is hidden in the palace of the leader of all the Fates. However, during the second born trials, Roselle and all of her friends and protectors are put in immediate danger when her mother and her followers attack innocent members of the Fates. Roselle is torn apart by the attack and is faced with death herself at the hands of someone she trusted.
This was a pretty good book. It may be my age, but I did quite a few eye rolls at the constant suitors for Roselle. The book seemed to be torn between making her a strong female fighter and a damsel in distress. It got a little old after awhile. And Roselle was confusing in herself because each time one of these boys showed interest in her, she was immediately taken by them. It was distracting from what I felt should be the central focus of the story – the war and the rebellion. Instead, this book was more love story.
IT was fine. I will read the 3rd one because I want to see how it ends. While there are great battle scenes, I could have done without all the love triangles (or whatever you call it with 4 people). It just got silly.
An epic journey to destroy the Fates takes Roselle to places she wishes she didn’t have to go and allies are fewer and father between. She is hovering on the cusp of her fate waiting for her journey to truly begin, with Reykin always at her side, watching and protecting she will meet her fate head on and change will come, no matter the cost to herself. Her mother wants her dead and no one can truly be trusted. I am diving straight into Rebel Born and I will devour it just like I devoured this epic five star read!
Horrifying & Tension Filled Pages Plus Much More!!
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
Can I just say I loathe Agent Crow & Roselle’s ‘Mother’ with a passion!!
This book has a lot of political manoeuvring, which Roselle hates but thankfully fully understands. Her panic attacks are becoming crippling, the more she fears her friends may get exposed & as the assassination attempts on her almost become a common occurrence, the worse they become!!
There is betrayal, hope, loss & heartbreak throughout. Roselle really is beginning to see that the whole system needs toppling – she’s terrified what that means for her family & herself!!
Another engrossing read!!

I don’t know if I can find the right words for this review. Traitor Born is amazing! Second Born was the first book, that I have read by Amy Bartol. Once finishing the first book in this series, I was dying for more. Amy Bartol did not disappoint me with her second book. She paints a picture so clear with her writings, that I can see a movie playing in my mind. She does an amazing job at creating characters and a plot that is so intriguing and captivating. You feel for Roselle and all that she is going through. As you read the story it almost feels as if you are there. I had moments where I was crying and other parts where my adrenaline was sky high. My emotions are on a roller coaster and I don’t know when it will end. I am so excited for book three, Rebel Born, to be released, so that I can continue the journey with Roselle.
Oh! Where to start? I’m having massive book-hungover and a cliff-hanger let alone my completely scattered overwhelming emotional feelings. That was one SOMETHING! This book starts exactly where Secondborn ended. Loved every second of this book. Fast paced, non- stop action packed, amazing characters some of them I love, some I love to hate, fantastic great world building to the very single detail. We got to see more of the Fates, more understanding about how it works and why it became the way it is to this point.
Roselle is such a wonderful heroine character – superstrong, smart, skilled warrior, survivor. She’s not fearless, she fears a lot but she shoves her fear away when it comes to do the only right thing to do. And that is all the time non-stop. I wish she had couple of days to breathe and recover but it never comes.
It’s definitely a must read! I wish I had the Rebel Born already to dive in..
Great series! Can’t wait for book 3. Interesting world, excellent love stories and intrigue.
The sequel to Secondborn was just as amazing as the first book. I could not put it down and was disappointed work kept me away from it. I love Reykin and am so excited to see what Rebel Born has in store for Roselle and Reykin. Now the hard part is waiting until June for their story to continue. Team Reykin for sure!
I may have liked this one better than the first! Kick butt heroine, intrigue, and a few romantic entanglements for romance readers to enjoy. Anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
Astrid’s Description: All predictions are flawed, and you will need to block out your day to finish this.
Amy brings yet another descriptive and creative work to the table. Though, as with the first, the beginning starts a tad slow, it picked up and then became impossible to put down. I ended up reading it in one day.
I still find the characters fabulously well written. Their arcs are easy to follow, and make sense. Vivid descriptions helped me feel what the character must have been feeling.
Grammar and spelling are well done. To be honest, I can’t think of anything I didn’t like beyond the slow beginning.
I wholly enjoyed this book, and do recommend. At the time of me writing this, it is part of the Kindle Unlimited program. If you subscribed to that program you can download and read the book for free.
Another amazing book in this incredible series. I can’t get enough of Roselle St. Sismode. This book was just as good as the first and seeing Roselle in action and being a fierce fighter is the best thing ever.
Things are becoming more dangerous for Roselle. Her life is in constant danger and things are brewing that even Roselle can’t see coming. No one is safe. The politics gets better and better with this book. Everyone wants a piece of Roselle and have a plan for her, but its up to her to decide what kind of future she wants for herself and the second borns. I love the way her mind works even though Reykin had to help and save her quite a bit. She is smart and observant. I seriously just love this girl. I also loved Reykin so much in this book. I don’t even care about that Hawthorne character anymore. Its all about Reykin and amazing he is. He’s a great fighter, very smart and calculated, and under that cold exterior it is clear he cares for Roselle far beyond his need to keep her alive. He has quickly replaces Hawthorne in my heart because he understands Roselle and shares her way of thinking far more than Hawthorne. I realized that he doesn’t understand her at all or how important she is.
My small issues with this book was with Roselle’s little pity party where she was feeling very sorry for herself. There was even quite a bit of crying. This caused her to lash out at Reykin a lot and even at Dune. I didn’t like that because she was angry at the people willing to do the most for her and were brutally honest with her about her brother Gabriel. She did get herself together though and that’s why I really couldn’t let that affect my rating because this book was so amazing.
Now I’m dying for the next book because this series is just too damn good. I love this series so much. The politics, the system, the world, the characters, and the action all make this series a must read. Its everything you love about this author and her books.
I loved Secondborn and Traitor Born. What a fantastic series! The only downside is the wait for book 3.
I struggled with rating this between 4 stars and 3 stars. I thought I finally settled on 4 stars, but then got to talking about the book and realized there was just too much that didn’t connect with me but at the same time, 3 stars didn’t seem right either because I still enjoyed the book and still look for to the next installment. So that’s how I landed at 3 1/2 stars.
This is book two of what I believe is set to be a trilogy, but who knows anymore these days, authors are adding more and more books to series to accommodate their growing fan base.
But that’s a little off track, Secondborn (Book 1) I found to be amazing, that in fact why I waited for what seemed forever for Traitor born and thanks to NetGalley I didn’t even have to wait until April to read it. But it, Traitor Born obviously did not meet the same fate a Secondborn on the five-star podium. Why what could drive a series to dip?
Well, it was overloaded with romance. Roselle our protagonist seem to have a budding relationship (romantically based) with what seems to be just about any male that came into the storyline. Which would have been fine by me if a relationship wasn’t already left on a cliffhanger from book one. I mean it was riddled with it, to the point I couldn’t keep track of if she was faking the relationship ( yes some were forged into the master plan) or if these were genuine feelings established. It was agonizing, to say the least. Let’s not even mention the cringe-worthy intimacy that awkwardly took place.
What I thought I was getting was a novel with high action and adventure. But what I got was an over the top romance novel. Ok, to be fair there was some really epic action scene, extremely developed, raw and at times frightful with the outcome of them that left me turning page after page to find out what had happened, who was responsible and who of a long cast was left remaining.
Now the world build was phenomenal. Great care went into its creations, so much so that it felt unbalanced. World Building Vs. Storyline. World building came out the champ. I felt that the story was good but that it seem to come second to the overbearing, constant long-winded description. Not saying it wasn’t well written, it most certainly was, it allowed for the who’s and what’s to become actively vivid, but it was a tad overbearing.
The books saving grace, however, was the unlikely twist of events that took place throughout the book. That is what has left me still wanting more. Bartol has a way of adding the perfect cliffhangers that you just can’t pass up on the book or books that will follow. I know that I for one look for Rebel Born which isn’t set to release until 2019…It’s going to be a long wait.
Treacherously Terrific…
Amy Bartol presents yet another thrilling tale in the second book of the Secondborn Series. Traitor Born delivers a powerful punch as Roselle’s story picks up where it left off in this Sci-Fi dystopian fantasy. As per usual, Amy has a way of pulling the reader into a strange new world, her imagery through her words delivers a story that runs like a movie reel within your mind. Roselle finds herself caught between extremes, either everyone wants her or rather wants to control her, or her mother and others would like to see her dead. Traitor Born is full of secrets that come to light, conspiracies against the Fates, as well as heartache and heartbreak. All the while Roselle struggles to retain her identity in the face of what she now knows she must do to make changes for all the Fates. Some of her biggest fears are brought to light as she begins to embrace the path that she has chosen. There were sections of the book that was reminiscent of other stories that I have read, and some situations seemed very familiar yet different but overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading Traitor Born, and because of that I was able to overlook some of these sections when they quickly gave way to an action-packed story. In Secondborn, I was sure that I was pulling for Hawthorne and Roselle to pick up the remains of their tattered relationship, but I now find that I’m torn in the face of all that happens in Traitor Born. I’ll leave that for you the reader to figure out where your thoughts are on the two because let’s face it if you have read Secondborn you are definitely looking forward to the next installment of this series. For those of you that don’t care for cliffhangers, beware, this book ends on a serious cliffhanger. I was left feeling somewhat bereft at the turn of events. All I have to say is watch out for the Zeroes!
Last but not least, I received an ARC of Traitor Born which in no way affected my review. Thank you, Amy Bartol and 47 North Publishing for the opportunity to read and review yet another brilliant book in the Secondborn Series. Happy reading everyone!
I really wish book 3 was available…. RIGHT NOW!
I inhaled this in one day. Traitor Born was better than the first book. How is that even possible!?!?
War between different groups, deadly assassins, and traitors everywhere.
And let’s not forget about 3 wonderful guys in love with Roselle. I know who my favorite is!!!
