Faith. Trust. Triumph.
“I trust Roselle with my life, every day. She trusts me to direct her. And today is no different, except the stakes are higher.” — Michael Hingson
First came the boom?the loud, deep, unapologetic bellow that seemed to erupt from the very core of the earth. Eerily, the majestic high-rise slowly leaned to the south. On the seventy-eighth floor of the World Trade Center’s … seventy-eighth floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, no alarms sounded, and no one had information about what had happened at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001?what should have been a normal workday for thousands of people. All that was known to the people inside was what they could see out the windows: smoke and fire and millions of pieces of burning paper and other debris falling through the air.
Blind since birth, Michael couldn’t see a thing, but he could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding around him and his guide dog, Roselle. However, Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle’s judgment and not to panic. They are a team.
Thunder Dog allows you entry into the isolated, fume-filled chamber of stairwell B to experience survival through the eyes of a blind man and his beloved guide dog. Live each moment from the second a Boeing 767 hits the north tower, to the harrowing stairwell escape, to dodging death a second time as both towers fold into the earth.
It’s the 9/11 story that will forever change your spirit and your perspective. Thunder Dog illumiates Hingson’s lifelong determination to achieve parity in a sighted world, and how the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire an unshakable faith in each one of us.

The trust between a man & his dog was heart warming
I liked this book. learned about this blind man’s happy up-bringing and how he and his dog escaped on 9/11 all the while helping others to escape.
Should be read by everyone!
This is an incredible story. I couldn’t put the book down. Very inspiring and encouraging.
This true story about the 9-11 attacks is motivational & inspiring.
I had not realized the extent of blindness (no longer the case) suffered by premature infants in treatment to develop their lungs. The capabilities of the dog handler are nearly unbelievable.
I loved the team work, the inversion of thought regarding what constitutes a disability in a time of need and the survival.
Enjoyed the book very much. Wonderful account.
To “see” 911 through the eyes of a blind person and get an insight into his life was really marvelous. It was the a great recount of a tragic event in our history.
A dog-lover’s delight as he recounts his life with his combat companion.
Amazing success story.
Enjoyable read
An inspirational book about a very difficult time in the US, September 11, 2001. The back story by Michael was truly amazing about all that he had accomplished being blind his whole life. I made me view those that are blind in a different context. The main story of how Michael and Thunder escaped the Twin Towers was just gut wrenching. I …
Great dog partner but the story did drag and was often repeated
THUNDER DOG is the true story of a climb down from the 78th floor on September 11, 2001. It is the story of a courageous seeing eye dog who stuck to her task of delivering her master to safety even though it was difficult for everyone to breathe but especially for a dog. Nonetheless Roselle, not only led her master to safety but upon finding …
Fascinating true story about a dog, his owner and 9/11.

This is the story of a Seeing-Eye dog who led his master out of Tower 1, on Sept 11, 2002. It also tells of the life of a blind person, whose parents vowed to let him lead a “normal” life.
I loved this book. The main character and his dog are truly inspirational. This book gave an insight to blind people and how they go about their life, every enlightening and I will try to be more tolerant and helpful to blind people.
