‘Twas the weekend before Christmas, when all through the North End
Not a Walsh had his life together, not even his friends;
The parties were planned by the foodies with care,
In hopes that Wes and Erin would soon find their way there;
The men were stressing over last minute shopping lists and plans,
While the ladies were busy with work and nesting and finding the right paella pans;
When out in … right paella pans;
When out in the dining room there arose such a clatter,
The Halsted dogs sprang from their beds to see what was the matter;
They whistled and shouted and called each other names,
While the secrets and announcements and surprises quickly came;
So onto another adventure they flew
With the sleigh full of Walshes, and the Commodore too—
As they continued arguing and clamoring around,
Down the road an unexpected visitor came with a bound;
But it wasn’t long until couples were all nestled snug in their beds,
With new memories of steamy holiday nights dancing in their heads.

Thresholds – The Walsh’s – Book 8 – by Kate Canterbary
Thresholds brings the reader back with entire Walsh family, their spouses, children, in-laws and friends, all around the holiday season.
We also have a new character added to the mix, the new trauma surgeon Sebastian Stremmel.
The Commodore and Judy are here to help out because Shannon is about to have baby number 2, Matt is looking for a property to buy and build a house for Lauren, hopefully before their little one arrives, Sam and Tiel get to have a date night, Erin and Nick have moved into their new home in Cambridge, Patrick and Andy are engaged but haven’t set a wedding date and Riley and Alex are still living in Alex’s apartment close to the hospital.
Of course mentioning all those names tells us one thing, if it’s the holidays and the Walsh’s are involved we know, oh how we know that shenanigans will be happening all over Boston!
It’s a wonderful way to see the happiness that has come to all of the Walshs , brothers and sisters! And an even more special way to lead up to learning more about Dr. Cal Hartshorn talented heart surgeon and to find out what and where Wes Halstead (Will & Lauren’s brother) is. It isn’t home for Christmas this year.
Kate Canterbary has done her usual wonderful job of giving each Walsh something to celebrate this holiday and all of that happiness is granted to the reader. An excellent follow up and the happily ever after’s of each couple.
Gawd I love these Walshes, their dysfunctional but in the Walsh way their kind of normal. If that even makes sense. And I’ve said this before if Kate writes 20 of these books, I’ll read each and everyone.
Thresholds was a bit different than the others. You had multiple points of views. Which, I usually don’t like more than two, I’m just very picky. But Kate is magic. She wrote this story with multiple points of views and your so enthralled by the story, it’s over, and then you just want more.
How can it end like that?! I need more. I’m not going to tell you what happens. Because there’s so much that happens within all these pages. That I’d rather you just enjoy this as much as I did. I laughed throughout and also teared up. Anyway.. I can’t wait for the next one.
Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars.
Loved!
Even though I didn’t read this at Christmas time, this was truly one awesome holiday novella! I absolutely loved getting a chance to catch up with all the wonderful characters from this series, and even get a little bit of Judy & the Commodore’s POV (which I’m sure Will didn’t totally appreciate!). Hoping this isn’t the end of the Walshes, as I could definitely read about them time and time again!!
The entire Walsh series by Kate is wonderful. These are ‘can’t put them down’ ‘gotta read them all ‘books. The characters are wonderful. I want to be part of the Walsh family!!!
I am still in total awe of this amazing cast of characters in the Walsh family series. It is the holidays and they are back better than ever. If you haven’t had the pleasure of starting this series as of yet please do yourself a favor and begin. I am totally enthralled by this funny, intelligent charismatic family. Thresholds is a peek inside to each one of the characters and their memory making holiday. I could not put this down I needed to jump in and finish it in one sitting late one evening …loved it! I was pulled deeper in with each page and needed to know what everyone was doing!! Each character in themselves can entertain you for an entire book but now you have the entire family and their lives are here at your fingertips for your reading pleasure! Absolutely loved it !!!

The Walsh Series is fun and sexy. A little unrealistic, but still relatable. I was look forward to the next installment and Kate does a great job of carrying forward all the characters.
Being able to revisit all of the Walsh siblings and their friends and family was very special; the series is extremely beloved by me. Kate Canterbary writes characters that are so real, so varied, so wonderful I can’t really even begin to explain how amazing these books are, and what a gifted writer this author is.
Thresholds is a gem filled with shenanigans, witty banter, heartfelt moments, heart stopping moments, crazy antics, booze, food, and enough sexy times to melt even the coldest heart. I saved this book to read on Christmas day and it was the perfect aperitif to whet my appetite for the next work by Kate Canterbary!
I am totally in love with The Walshes, so this book was a wonderful (pre-)Christmas surprise. Whilst Sam and Tiel’s books are still my favourite, I love all the couples equally so this was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with them all.
It isn’t a Walsh book if it doesn’t make you laugh, envious, hot under the collar (or damp in the panty area if I’m being totally honest) search for breadcrumbs and cry big fat ugly tears. This most assuredly is a Walsh book, so try and read it somewhere discrete, otherwise you will receive some VERY strange looks.
I know this review is vague but we’ve been warned that spoilers will get us into trouble. And I don’t think it’s the fun kind of trouble involving Will, rope and spanking (***I wish***). If you’ve never read a Walsh book before WHY NOT? Underneath it All (book #1) is currently free so pick that up and find out just what amazingness you’ve been missing. If you have read some or all of them then you know just how wonderful, fabulous and salty this book will be.
A wonderful collection of stories “wrapping up” the Walsh family…or is it? I definitely want more! This book continues on with layered lives and characters beautifully written. A delightful, emotional, funny and sexy read!
I received an ARC for an honest review.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Walsh’s!!! Thresholds was an amazing read!! What is better than a story about 1 of the Walsh’s? A story about ALL of the Walsh’s. The only downside is it went way too quick!!
Kate was absolutely right……there are a ton of spoilers in this book. There is something happening with every single character. This slowly brought back all of the memories I had of each and every one of the Walsh’s. I laughed and cried and I absolutely LOVE the real, rough, crabby, crass, crazy, loving, sexy opinionated attitude of all of them!!
The Walsh’s are unique when it comes to romance. They aren’t always the lovey, dovey, mushy, sappy romantics but they love hard. This is one family, whether you were born into it or married into it, that would do anything for each other.
I could read thousands of pages of their banter and sarcasm and steamy, sexy love for each other.
Amazing Kate Canterbary!!
Well……eight books in and Kate Canterbary has not once disappointed, displeased or disillusioned me. Thresholds was a complete and utter surprise packed full of ALL the Walsh goodness. It is always wonderful to check in with beloved characters and to know that their lives are still happy and healthy. This book gave me that and more. Thank you, Kate. You write it. I will read it.
To put it simply, this book just made me happy.
I loved every part of it. It was not the story of one couple falling in love, but a story of one family and how they love, support, (and ridicule) each other.
I loved how different chapters were told from varying points of view, not only from Walsh siblings and their spouses, but new characters as well. (Wes…sigh…)
I loved how each chapter seemed to add another intricate (and usually hysterical) layer to an already wonderful story. It was so well written that I felt like I was there, watch everything unfold right in front of me.
I think it was such a great idea to have a book like this, one that brought all the characters we know and love right together for the holidays.
Reading this book was like finding out that your favorite book had an extra awesome secret epilogue. It was like opening a present and realizing that what made that gift perfect was the person who gave it to you.
Because that’s really how I feel whenever I’m starting a book by this author.
Each book, each story, is a gift.
And it had what I think will always remain one of my favorite lines…from my favorite Walsh to his Miss Honey.
“Some bananas are better than others” I replied.
” If that’s all you’re going to eat for breakfast, I want to get you the best banana out there.” Matthew Walsh
I loved Thresholds. If you have not yet discovered Kate Canterbary’s writing, may I humbly suggest that you immediately one-click Thresholds and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of the Walsh family & friends. Everything about this architect/school teacher/ex-Navy Seal/lawyer/professional violinist/surgeon/volcanologist family is real-life meets falling in love meets life-out-loud family drama. I will let other reviewers tell you about THIS book and avoid any manner of spoilers in this review, except to say you can read Thresholds as a holiday standalone.
I want to tell you about THIS author. Many authors are good storytellers, but aren’t good writers. Other authors are beautiful writers, but the story doesn’t resonate. Kate is that rare, rare author who consistently (nine books and counting) marries rock solid writing with elegant storytelling. It takes a hard-working and gifted writer to weave together a multitude of characters that stay true to themselves, but aren’t cliché and create an original story with each book published. There is no “formula” to Kate’s writing, except great writing. I am convinced that she could write in any genre and succeed.
If you haven’t read anything by Ms. Canterbary yet, do yourself a favor and go one-click ALL of her Walsh series books and start with Underneath It All and then go ahead and blame me for why you didn’t get anything done for the next few days while you read her books.
