But now they need to escape, or Rosa will be trapped forever in a horrific government program. A dystopian page-turner with over 750 five-star ratings on Goodreads. Rosa never thought she’d make it to sixteen…
When being unique puts you in danger and speaking your mind can be punishable by death, you might find yourself fighting to survive. Sixteen-year-old Rosa lives in one of the eight enclosed cities of The Woodlands. Where the lone survivors of a devastating race war have settled in the Russian wilderness because it’s the only scrap of land left habitable on the planet. In these circular cities, everyone must abide by the law or face harsh punishment. Rosa’s inability to conform and obey the rules brands her a leper and no one wants to be within two feet of her, until she meets Joseph. He’s blonde, fair-skinned, green-eyed, and the laid-back complete opposite of Rosa. She’s never met anyone quite like him, and she knows that spells danger.
But differences weren’t always a bad thing. People used to think being unique was one of the most treasured of traits to have. Now, the Superiors, who ruthlessly control the concrete cities with an iron fist, are obsessed with creating a ‘raceless’ race. They are convinced this is the only way to avoid another war. Any anomalies must be destroyed.
The Superiors are unstoppable and can do anything they want. After all, they are considered superheroes by the general public. But not everyone sees them this way. When they continue to abuse their power by collecting young girls for use in their secret, high-tech breeding program, they have no idea that one of those girls has somehow managed to make friends even she didn’t know she had. And one man will stop at nothing to save her.

I’ve read the entire series and I had a very difficult time putting the books down at night! Absolutely loved the characters, especially the heroine. It was easy to identify with her. This series is addictive and I can’t wait to see what the author is going to write next.
The Woodlands is the first installment in The Woodlands series written by author Lauren Nicolle Taylor. This young-adult dystopian romance was a wild, wild ride! At first, I was not sure I would like it because the story of a highly stringent, zero tolerance society has been written before. But after hitting the 30% mark, I could not put The …
A good tale in three parts. It was a good, entertaining read.
I was kept interested in what was going to happen next Good read
I enjoyed reading this book. I love that it was unpredictable. I do recommend “The Woodlands”
I loved this entire series! I read all four books in less then a month! The characters were amazing and the story was so different from anything I have read!
This was the first book I’ve read by this author, and it has made me devour almost every novel she’s put out since. The character of Rosa is one I’ve always connected to with her tough grit and ability to be stubborn in all the right ways. With her spunk and perseverance, partnered with the author’s ability to tell her story in just the right way, …
I loved this book, and can’t wait to start book 2 in the series as soon as I can afford it.
A nice surprise in the dystopian genre!
Good read
Great book. I thought it was a little boring at first and was going to stop. I’m so glad I didn’t because it really picked up and became hard to put down. Highly recommend for any fans of Hunger Games or Divergent.
This is a wonderful example of a dystopian novel. I appreciate any book that leaves me guessing, and there was always something I just wasn’t quite sure about yet (Not the romance part though: that was predictable). I think the most shocking thing about this novel was the way it portrayed the heroine: nothing soft and cuddly or even rough with a …
Enjoyable story line. Lead character was annoying at times but story was interesting enough that I will most likely read book 2.
Must read
Good book, strong female lead. I would recommend it.
This book was slow and I felt I’ve already read it.
I found the characters incredibly unlikeable. And the authors style of writing is so simplistic, that I was unable to find any depth in the characters to help explain reactions or statements they made. This made it very difficult to enjoy the storyline. There was no explanation or any satisfactory world building. This book wasn’t for me.
As a story about how totalitarian states rule by fear and by destroying the spirit of those they rule, it is extremely well written. It is also not an enjoyable read as it experience loss and depression from the point of view of the protagonist. There are people out there who should read this, but many who probably never will, and quite a few …
I really enjoyed the story. I even bought the second book. I really became concerned about the main character and her friends. I read it during quarantine and almost felt like I was living it at times.
Unexpected. A welcome surprise.
