This series took me on a whirl wind of emotions. I couldn’t put it down once I started and I truly cannot wait until book 3 comes out. K.A Knight has never disappointed me, and continues to blow my mind.
I loved it, but K.A Knight is a wizard with words!
Wow. Just WOW. It never ceases to amaze me what this author can put in to words. This world is beyond wrecked. But there are also little glimpses of humanity left. Most, but not everyone, have turned to their darkest, basest self. Everything is in ruins. The main characters, of which there are many, are all on a sliding scale of messed up. The chaos they have all lived through is mind boggling. I am very excited to see where their stories will lead next.
5 stars for The Wasteland by K.A. Knight. This book one in Their Champion series. Wow this book is dark and gritty and man oh man do I love it. When the world ended so did all the rules. This is a dystopian Reverse Harem. There could be some triggers in this book, nothing is sugar coated. Wildness, ruthlessness, rape, and so much more happens a lot in this book. Worth started as a slave and earned her freedom by becoming a champion. I am looking forward to reading Worth’s journey.
I loved this!! What a great start to a new series by KA. If you are a huge fan of post apocalyptic stories, well even if you are not, you will love this. I have pretty much enjoyed all of this authors work, and there is one thing that they all have in common. They have all entertained me. Every one has had a great plot, fast paced and kick a@@ characters.
The female lead Worth, man she had me rooting for her from the start. After all when everything went down she was taken from her family. Thrust into this new life she has had to do what she can to survive. She is a slave and a fighter. She is so bad a@@ that she won her freedom. She moves to the rim. When she meets four guys who want to hire her, she sets off on an new adventure that I could not stop reading about. Does not hurt that the guys also have a dark past and are alpha. I very much enjoyed this, and even though it was a huge cliffy, it helps that book two is already out. I would highly recommend.
“The bits and pieces of my broken cold heart are slowly stitching back together again and they are the reason why.”
I feel like I’m burning up!! Seriously, K.A. Knight knows her stuff, fantastic stories with amazing characters that make the steamiest reverse harem romances with a plot that only she can create!!! Katie Knight always delivers the most badass female characters, which makes you want to devour the book.
The world is falling apart, and in a reality where you get to kill and live or be afraid and die, Tazanna Worth is the badass who embraces the dark in order to survive, sure she has anger issues but who doesn’t? Her past made her the famous Champion, she stays true to that name because she earned it. They fear her as they should.
When Maxen, Drax, Jax and Thorn suddenly arrive and ask for her help to go to The Wasteland, she knows she can deliver but she’s not sure she wants to dive in with them or go back to the place she earned her freedom, she knows Dray is there too; but being with the four of them is too much, they are intense, and so real but also dark, just like her. There’s a reason they are alive in a world full of dread; their demons are what binds them together and maybe just maybe they are meant to survive just like that… together.
Let me just throw it out there…in case you have any doubts to start this one; if you love Den of Vipers; well this is just like that in a dystopian world and just as steamy!!
I Give this Book a 3.5/5 Star Rating, Listing as 4.
Cliffhanger(?): Yes
HEA(?): Not Yet.
Relationship Type: RH > Reverse Harem: MFMMM
Heat: 3.5-4/5,
Romance: 3-3.5/5
Insta(?): I would put this in an Insta Attraction category, which I wasn’t actually expecting really. I was expecting as slow building RH or at least a slow building of attraction, but it is almost immediate. And that is a bit of a let down for me. It is quite fast when you think of how long they’ve been together.
The thing I’m really not too thrilled with is that Worth/Taz who is legendary and everyone is scared of her, but when 4 guys enter the picture, you see a slight personality shift in her and she softens emotionally a little too quickly, and then later the heat is a little too immediate. But that’s just me.
Dark(?): Ok.. so this is going to be an odd rating, I am a AVID DARK reader and I have zero triggers. This book is Dark, yes. But it is a dystopian world so it’s more on the need to survive & control, rather than taking pleasure in killing & controlling.
So to me I see a difference in the type of ‘Dark’, so I give this a 3-3.5/5 on (My Spectrum) of Darkness.
Drama: 3.5-4/5
Suspense: 3-3.5-4/5, this rating i’m not too confident in, its suspenseful yet not. I can’t really decided.
Pacing: Mid-Fast
This is reasonably good book, I definitely have to read the rest of the series cause it does have my attention.
I’m not too big on dystopian books, but I really enjoyed this one! I’ve never been disappointed by one of Katie’s books before so I decided to take a chance on it. This book is filled with drama, darkness, action, triggers, and steam.
Worth has fought for her freedom, but now she has to fight for her happiness. I loved her kickass and smart ass personality. I didn’t really see much of a relationship development between Worth and the guys, but hopefully there’s more as the series continues. The guys didn’t seem made for this world, except Drax, but I appreciated that they could accept that she could protect them and not get upset over it.
I thought Katie did a great job with the world building. I liked learning the about the clans and zones she’s created. I also found it refreshing that the people actually adapted to what the world became even with all of its brutality and bloodiness. I’m intrigued to see where this story goes after that ending!
Hollie’s narration really brought this story and Worth’s character to life. I loved her accent and how she portrayed the eachcharacter’s emotions. I felt like she was the perfect fit for this book and possibly Katie’s future books if they ever become audios.
Was ever so excited to get stuck into this one as the description for this sounded just so good and right up my street.
It’s post-apocalyptic and also dark reverse-harem two things I also love.
For reference, the dark here comes from the situations and settings rather than the romance which isn’t in any way dark.
This is the first book in a series I think it’s a trilogy but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t actually checked so I’m just assuming here.
It’s told from our heroines POV and is set after the world has imploded after a series of natural disasters leaving behind a desolate lawless wasteground of a new world order.
This story centres around the heroine Tazanna worth who goes by Worth or the Champion or just plain Taz to her men.
She’s a super tough chick with a tragic back-story that has moulded her into the strong woman she is today.
Taz is a survivor and her body is a roadmap of her life.
The longtime captured pet of the brutal leader of the Berserkers clan she fought her way from her previous slave status and won her freedom fighting to the death in the pit.
Now living in The Rim and taking jobs out in the Wastes as a bounty hunter Taz is someone who is respected and feared by others.
So when four out of towner’s show up wanting to hire her as there guide though initially resistant it’s an offer she can’t afford to refuse.
Maxen, Thorn and twin brothers Drax and Jax are instantly intrigued with her and through this was quite instalove and they do all bond relatively fast it never felt cheesy or unbelievable.
I believed in the connections forged here 100% as well as there’s affections towards one another.
All are so uniquely different and each one offers something totally them to the mix.
And though the guys could take care of themselves I loved that Taz was basically in charge when it came to everyone’s safety out in the Wastes.
She was so self-sufficient and her men weren’t too proud to accept that she knew best and let her lead the way.
In fact, they were super proud and also equally turned on by her proficiency and ability to be so bad-ass.
I found this so refreshing and adored that she was no damsel in distress and could save herself but then could equally be soft when she was just with her men trusting them and letting down her walls around them.
This very much had a mad max doomsday vibe that I especially appreciated.
It was fast-paced and easily kept my attention and even though it’s quite insta in nature it was also equally slow-burn expertly building the tension throughout.
It’s sexy and very hot and I liked the way this sizzled on a constant simmer it felt natural rather than contrived.
I also am very intrigued by the inclusion of Dray and am highly anticipating how he is going to fit into the mix or even if he even is, time will answer that question.
I liked where this went and where we left things, loved the finale also.
I enjoyed this one very much it was all sorts of imaginative with some great world-building and am looking forward to getting stuck into the next book which follows on directly from this.
Thumbs up from me for this one.

Wow.
Seems like that is my go-to word when it comes to this authors books. This book was AMAZING. It was dark, original, exciting, edgy, hot, it had me on my toes the entire day I was listening to the audio. Drax, Maxen, Thorn, & Dax were perfect. I love Worth. She is such a K.A Knight heroine. A total baddy babe. This whole series is going to rock my socks off I can see it now. Get ready because I am about to shout it from the rooftops.. This ONE book took me on a WILD ride. I can only imagine what the next ones will do when we see a more in depth look into the characters as they get closer. 5 stars across the board and BEYOND once again for this 5 STAR AUTHOR.
Wow this was a good book! Quite violent, unfiltered, gritty, featuring a kickass heroine of unprecedented fighting skill. The world and one of the characters felt familiar from the start, and it turned out that the familiarity was quite deliberate, which made me like this author even more.
The world is dystopian. It is ugly, dry, unforgiving, and violent. Only the strongest and smartest survive. Worth is a tortured hero trying to escape her past and survive a day at a time. She is amazingly strong and skilled, and crazy feral at times due to the trauma she has been through. She is neither suppressing it nor using it as an excuse, but trying to work through it and survive. She is a sort of a bounty hunter and her job takes her to some unpleasant places. Then she gets four unwanted companions and a job that takes her straight back to her past…
It is quite nice how the author created the group dynamic and how the relationship between Worth and her companions evolves. I have to admit that I was mostly focused on Worth and paid little attention to her companions but I am certain that the author did that on purpose to emphasise Worth’s struggle and pain, and her reluctance to rely on others. Later on, Maxen, Thorn, Drax and Jax get their time in the spotlight as they deserve for being such great characters.
I love the author’s writing style, the descriptions, the world building and the character development. I even love the crazy cliffhanger, which is completely unrelated to the complete unresolved situation, Worth is trying to help solve. The violence is super violent, realistic, and graphic, but sexy scenes are sizzling hot. This is a must read for anyone who enjoys dark, gritty, raw, dystopian world. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel(s).
Books are best read in order, which is: The Wasteland (Their Champion Book 1), The Summit (Their Champion Book 2), The Forgotten (Their Champion Companion Novel 1), The Cities (Their Champion Book 3), and The Lost (Their Champion Companion Novel 2).
This is one of the first time books I’ve read in the dystopian romance genre and I loved it. I have read other Katie’s books and she is an excellent writer. I did not know what to expect and was blown away. The Wasteland is Mad Max meets Gladiator meets Vikings. The heroine, Tazanna Worth, is a strong, sexy, beautiful badass who has overcome unspeakable tragedy and is still struggling with her own demons and the horrors from her past. Along the way she meets four men, who start to work their way into her heart and together they fight the battles before them as well as help wash other start to heal. This book is dark and not for the faint of heart, but man it is full of action, badass fight scenes, suspense, HEAT, steamy scenes, and a few touching moments sprinkled in between. I loved it!
The Wasteland: Their Champion Book One Kindle Edition
by K.A Knight
I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited Program and am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.
K.A. Knight does it again, but this time with a truly kick-ass Heroine who spends her time saving her men!
I’m a big fan of Dystopias and their cousin genre, post-apocalyptic fiction. When those two get busy with a Reverse Harem, I just couldn’t resist picking this up. And I am glad I did.
Worth is a female Mad Max – the good Mel Gibson Max. She is stuck in a version of our world that has seen better days. The climate has gone to hell and somehow, so has tech, leaving people lost without power, communications and medical aid.
In order to survive this word, she has become the Champion. A fighter who has survived enough battles to win her freedom. Doing that has made her a legend. She is brave and strong, able to compartmentalize pain and even more able to do what is necessary to survive. But it has cost her. Her heart is broken and frozen over.
Enter our heroes, all four (and maybe five??). Drax and Jax, twins who may look alike but carry very different souls. Thorn, a warrior and Maxen, her protector.
Their entry leads to some sexy fast burn moments that will leave your Kindle smoking!
The world building owes a lot to George Miller’s Max movies. Ms. Knight even brings up Max several times. Again, I’m picturing the real Max Rockistinsky, Mel Gibson.
Worth is our narrator. As the narrator, she is sly, funny and at times, poignant. Ms. Knight manages to slowly thaw Worth’s voice as tie goes on.
All in all, a great dark, sexy, Dystopian post-apocalyptic, Reverse Harem Romance! And you don’t get to say that very often.
4 ½ stars rounded up to 5

Really enjoyed this audiobook! I had already fallen in love with these characters but it had been awhile since I had read this particular book and the audiobook does it so much justice. Let me first start off with the story. KA Knight makes you fall for Worth and her rough edges. We get to see her walls peel back a bit to let in her 4, maybe 5 lovers. She is so BA and totally owns everything she does (except when it comes to expressing her feelings hahaha). I loved her relationship with the guys and the side characters. I loved how she ended things with Major in this one (and what he did for the slave woman), on the fence about Dray when just looking at this particular book, not the series. Also her relationship with the older lady at the inn. She was amazeballs and hilarious. Now to her guys….SO MUCH SWOONING!!! I think Jax and Maxen are my favs, but Thorn and Drax are a close 2nd. I love the different dynamics and how each guy is still BA and no one is meek. They are all warriors, can kill someone easily, but are so perfect for Worth. Some are gentle, some allow her to take control, while others take control away from her. Perfect system The cliffy at the end caused a little bit of heartache but thank goodness books 2 and 3 are out now too!
For the narration, Hollie does a phenomenal job. I was kinda taken aback in the beginning but she reined in some of the accents that were consistent and made it a great rendition. I think sometimes when the guys are excited/scared/etc. her voice wavers a bit because its hard to keep the accent at that point. Those are the only reasons I didnt give her a 5 star. It was more like a 4.5 star to be honest. She was already on my radar of narrators and this cemented her on my list of acceptable and go-to narrators. Great job, already listening to book 2 because I couldn’t just stop at 1 hahaha.
Definitely recommend this series and the books on audio
I can not express how much I love the female lead in this book/series. I have not been able to find a more bada** independent character. Worth is strong and capable but the way the author is able to capture all her strength and still let her grow and evolve with the men is truly remarkable. This book is graphic and at times a little hard to digest, but that is part of what makes the writing so unique.
Holy Freaking Amazeballs!!!! Wasteland is soo damn good. It is literally filled with nothing but action, hot sexy scenes and 5 amazing characters.
Apocalyptic reverse harem at its finest!!! Worth, Maxen, Jax, Drax and Thorn are literally everything you want! They have some of the hottest sex and sexy scenes ever. At one point I literally had to go jump my husband I was that turned on!
I love the apocalyptic setting. The world has basically died leaving death and destruction in its wake. And people do what people do best. Right off the bat I was taken aback by Worth. She is this strong, fierce, stubborn, witty, dangerous girl, who basically had to channel Spartacus to survive the chaos the world fell into.
I cant wait to devour the rest of this series!!!!
A great start to an epic series…
No one messes with Tazanna Worth. Having suffered the apocalypse, and lived to tell the story, Worth gives no ground to those who would try to take advantage of, or use her for, their own ends ever again. Once a slave, she battled for her freedom and now calls the shots. When 4 mysterious men hire her as a guide, Worth starts a journey of release and awareness as she’s forced to face the demons of her past, and learn to trust others to have her back. And with a new war on the horizon, allies are an imperative, especially when they come in the guise of 4 or (5?) sexy men. The heat level is brutal – this is not a sweet love story. But survival is sexy in this dark and gritty story with a bombshell ending
This is one of my absolute favorite series ever. Worth is broken despite trying to tape herself back together. When the guys show up, we start seeing the real Worth behind her facade. Still strong, but also with those cracks running through her.
I love the action. The concept is interesting. The characters are great. Just an all around great book!
This is one of my favorite books. I LOVE the imagery that is created in this book. Worth is an amazing character that is a total badass. With her men by her side there is nothing she can not do. Dray is my all time favorite book boyfriend.
This was the first book I read about the end of the world. I couldn’t put it down. This is a story of over coming everything life can throw at you. Worth and her men will take you on an incredible journey. They will hold you with them as they battle to stay alive, and as they find love and strength in each other. This is action packed, and one you will never forget. One of the best I’ve ever read. It makes you think, What would I do if I where there. Was so amazed by this story could hardly wait for book two. This is a must for any TBR list. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
