From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery…In this modern-retelling of “Beauty and the Beast,” Savannah Carmichael, betrayed by an unreliable source, returns to her hometown of Danvers, Virginia with her once-promising journalism career in ruins. Given the opportunity to get back in the game by writing a patriotic human interest piece, Savannah turns her attention to the town hermit, … town hermit, Asher Lee, a wounded veteran who returned to Danvers eight years ago, and hasn’t been seen since.
After an IED explosion in Afghanistan took Asher’s hand and disfigured half of his face, he’s lived a quiet life on the outskirts of Danvers where the locals respect his privacy…that is, until Savannah Carmichael comes calling in a borrowed sundress with a plate of homemade brownies. When Asher agrees to be interviewed by Savannah, he starts feeling things for the beautiful reporter that he hasn’t felt in years.
Misfits in small-town Danvers, Savannah and Asher create a bond right away, touching each other’s hearts in ways neither thought possible. When a terrible mistake threatens to drive them apart, they’ll have to decide if the love they found in one another’s arms is strong enough to fight for their hard-won happily ever after.

The characters in this story are so real that I felt myself being drawn into their romance. It showcases the plight of soldiers injured in war and some of the struggles they return with when injured. I liked how the chapters were linked to the 12 important milestones in a relationship.
A collection of sinfully sexy tales that are sure to satisfy! Loved each and every story in the collection, left me with me with a happy heart and my toes permanently curled!! Highly recommend!!
I don’t often give a rating of Excellent, but this book was just that. a Wonderful story, a wonderful cause. Thank you Kat Martin for putting a sensitive subject into a sensitive story. I loved it from beginning to end.
I love reading this book some people don’t understand what are soldiers go through when they come home change forever inside and out
I read all night and didn’t realize it was 7 AM in the morning when I finished it. I did no skipping in this book. It filled a needed purpose of awareness of what our wounded warriors go through. Plus that there are ways to help them. We owe them our lives.
Best book I have read in a while.
First time reading this author and truly enjoyed her writing style. I look forward to reading more of her work.
If you like curse words that don’t add to the plot, if you like smut, if you like trash talk, then this book is for you. It is not for me. I deleted it.
More character development than in the romances I usually read. I found the two “misfits” interesting, and the disabled vet a very sympathetic character. I did want to smack the heroine’s shallow little sister upside the head for her refusal to believe her own sister’s claim of attempted sexual assault, but she came through in the end.
Decent read. It was a free book so I read it and enjoyed it.
I didn’t want to like this book. Heck, I didn’t even think I would like it. But I live to read, and I have liked other stories by this author. What a surprise to be captivated by these characters, drawn to this story and emotionally invested! Take a chance and enjoy this read…
Wonderful story.
I could not put it down! The story line that mirrored Beauty and the Beast did not appeal to me at first, but feeling the blossoming love and re-birth in Asher was wonderful! I knew it was going to hit a wall when the newspaper editor was mentioned! Of course, without giving it away, it was the turning point of their love story. Set in Virginia …
Different story line that was very enjoyable.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!!
This book is so wonderful…..I love love love this book. I’ll re-read this book several times .
I bought it in 2014 and still read it. that should tell you how much I love this book. Not all of katy’s books are this good but this one takes the cake.
Enjoyed it completely.
loved the story between the Vixen and the Vet. Great conclusion. Definitely in my read again (and again) pile!
Even with knowing the theme before starting to read this book kept you entertained and at times I didn’t want to stop reading. I enjoyed the ending.
