A great second book in the trilogy! It has it’s own complete story (even though it is a “middle book”). I love how Anderson gets inside the head of our 4 friends and allows us to witness their growth and struggles. The magic of the land continues to be explored and explained and I smiled my way through the whole book. I am completely charmed by this creative series!
The main character in the book are Keisha ,Krey ,Oyrun and Nora they live in a well detailed amazing world that once you are in there you cannot escape.
There mission with the help of the Trogs is to stop the king from controlling all the minds of the people in the city.
They manage to avoid the King but may loose there new home.
Secrets revealed to Nora and Krey as you read the book.
As you read this book more is explained including history from previous book Frost Eater.
This is a love story for Ovrun and Nora will they stay happy together while fighting for the people ,the kingdom and there lives.
You will love this book especially if you read The Frost eater first, filled with magic, love, fighting and great characters trying to survive a great series cannot wait for next book.

The Vine Eater picks up where The Frost Eater left off. We see Nora, Ovrun, Krey, and Zeisha working with the Trogs, trying to figure out how to stop the king and his army. This book focuses a good bit on Zeisha and how she was affected by her involuntary service in the king’s militia of magic eaters. We see her struggle with doing what she thinks others want her to do versus what she wants to do with her magic. I just wanted to reach into the book and hug her sometimes! A secret that Krey has kept for a long time also comes to light, and Nora learns things about her homeland that she didn’t know. We see more of Osmius and Taima in this book and learn some of their backstory, and I find that just fascinating!
I love the world Anderson has built for her characters. I never feel like there are pieces missing or things that I’d understand if only I’d just read this one other work. It all fits together well, and the characters are believable and interesting. Some you like, some you don’t, and just like in real life, sometimes one will surprise you. I can’t wait to read the third book in the series, and if I’m chomping at the bit to keep reading, that tells me it’s a good book.

Fantastic continuation of the trilogy!
As the story continues, it becomes painfully clear that the King of Cellerin has completely lost his mind. The King decides he wants to completely destroy Deroga, the home of the Trogs, and the battle for their survival ensues. The world building is fantastic and the book is so well written that even when I wasn’t reading it, I was wondering what was going to happen next. I can’t wait to see how this ends! Great story!

The adventure continues and just keeps getting better!
We’ve got a second installment of the Magic Eaters Trilogy that doesn’t disappoint.
The world that kept having more details and intriguing characteristics was still there with still more magic to uncover. The characters and their experiences came back to tell us more about each of them (and some had pretty big secrets!) and how they were dealing with the aftermath of the first book events. The writing that sometimes is very relatable, others very powerful and can even make us think about important things (I kept highlighting passages and that’s not something I usually do). The dragons! The trogs! The seer and her dilemma! Cruine! The cover! I could go on and on…
And now I need to know what happens next! Like, I really need to know!
I was just a little sad the excerpts at the beginning of each capter weren’t from the Diary as in The Frost Eater because I didn’t found this ones so interesting but that’s a minor thing. I also didn’t get as sucked in at first but after getting more into the story I read almost the whole thing in 2 days!
Listening to the book read by the author makes for a different experience. For one, we know how to pronounce all the names right and, secondly, this may be the author of this book but she is also a very good narrator!
All in all, a book that deserves a lot of exclamation marks from this reader who’s not the greatest fan of Fantasy.

This is the second book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint! The characters are continuing to grow and develop as people and face more mature challenges as they age. The world building is outstanding and if you liked The Frost Eater, you’ll love this installment! I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

The continuation of one of the most inventive magical stories I’ve ever read! We have the addition of a new character in this sequel, along with her ability to see things that others cannot.
The story continues to follow Nora, Zeisha, Krey, and Ovrun and their ongoing battle with Nora’s father. I won’t give away any spoilers here but the book was spellbinding from beginning to end.
The author also weaves current social issues throughout the text in a way that may help teens and young adults who struggle with fitting in due to similar issues, a way of “normalizing” them.
I can’t wait for the final installment of the trilogy!

It is amazing to watch how Nora grows from spoiled royalty to an amazing young woman caring for others more than herself. I am still a bit unsure about the unorthodox magic, but it is growing on me and works in this world. I love how all the characters interact with one another and how they grow into their own. It is fascinating to watch teens grow into adults.
And I love the dragons!

This second book took off right where book one ended. It’s full of Adventure, action and romance… All together in the perfect blend. The characters grow in this second installment and the plot moved at a beautiful pace. I really enjoyed this, and with that ending, I’ll be eagerly waiting for the third book. It was a fun, enchanting read that will have you pulled within this world and never wanting to leave. Just as good as the first book!
Allow a LONG full day for this PG13 second installment of the Magic Eaters Trilogy by Beth Anderson which involves our four teens resisting the slave-making tendencies of King Ulmin.

Nora believes she can still bring her father back from the brink of insanity, and Ovrun loves Nora, but can he ever see himself as a king and her helpmate? Each of them must decide what will make them happy while fighting for their lives and the lives of the kingdom. War with the King is coming. “The Vine Eater” picks up right where “The Frost Eater” left off – the kidnapped Zeisha and other enslaved individuals have been freed from “The Overseer” and the dark powers of the king – the King has fled back to the city and vows to return to conquer Nora, Krey, Ovrun, the Trogs and recently freed.
We start with the return of the King and his Army – and we move through so much. We learn more about Zeisha. We learn more about Krey. We watch things develop between Ovrun and Nora – heck we watch things develop between all 4 individuals – Zeisha, Krey, Ovrun, and Nora – We learn more about Trog society and a few other countries. We meet new people – some who may prove to be important as we move on in the story.
I’m greatly enjoying this world – and I love the uniqueness of the magic system. and I can’t wait to see what “The Stone Eater” brings to us in April 2021.

In her best novel yet, Carol Beth Anderson continues the story of Nora, Krey, Ovrun, and Zeisha and their battle to protect the trogs, the New Therroans, and ultimately all of Cellerin. Now based in Deroga with the Star Clan, Nora has learned of her father’s treachery and addiction. But because of her connection to him, there are many who don’t trust her. This book shows her growing into her future role as queen, learning to take charge, strategize, make hard decisions, and trust others rather than attempting to do everything herself. Zeisha, who was barely in the first book, struggles with guilt and finding her purpose after all that she has been through. When challenged to take time for herself, she finds more than she could have hoped, making peace with God as well.
The Vine Eater also introduces new places to the saga. The dragon Osmius flies Nora to places where magic still exists and an attempt to find new allies for the oncoming war, brings several of the company to the nearby nation of Cruine. In Cruine, new discoveries are made about magic and its connection to the world. This book tackles difficult issues, such as addiction, the morality of warfare, trust, and whether people can truly change. All of these topics are nuanced and more complicated because they impact friends and family and people the readers have come to love. And yet, they are handled well. The theme of addiction was especially terrible, but also inspiring. Perhaps addiction is something that a former addict will always struggle with, but it might be overcome when the person is open about their struggles and allows friends to hold them accountable. On the other hand, when a person views their addiction as necessary despite those hurt by it, there may not be hope as much as we may wish it.
I’m excited for the conclusion, and somewhat relieved that it’s a trilogy because I need to know what happens next! I received an ARC from the author and have reviewed it willingly.
This book is a must read continuation. Life changes us in many ways even when we think we know how it should be. The journey of the friends from Ice Eaters continues. You will feel sorrow at some points in the book but also joy in others. Anger will raise its head as well. This is a book I just couldn’t put down because I needed to know what would happen next. I look forward to the next installment and wonder where we will go. Will Nora get what she wants or only what she needs. Will Kray get back what he wants or will he backslide?
The Vine Eater is the second in this trilogy. I enjoyed the first one, but I think this one was even better! You do need to read the first one prior as this is not a stand-alone.
There are so many characters to connect with. They each have their good and bad qualities, much like real people! The story is filled with action, magic, dragons, love, and even has some subtle humor sprinkled throughout. The story isn’t quite predictable. You know the general idea where the story is going and then something totally new is thrown in!
The Vine Eater is Keisha, whom we met near the end of The Frost Eater. We get to experience her inner journey as she tries to figure out who she is in this new world she’s living in. Meanwhile, Nora and friends are trying to figure out how to stop her insane father, the King, from literally taking over everyone. We feel the emotional ride through their relationships both as friends and as more. This story keeps you reading to the very end, and then you’ll have to wait for the final book release.
