This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides — or are chosen. A world in … world in which good rides on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abigail — and the worst nightmares of evil are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the dark man.
In 1978 Stephen King published The Stand, the novel that is now considered to be one of his finest works. But as it was first published, The Stand was incomplete, since more than 150,000 words had been cut from the original manuscript.
Now Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world blasted by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil has been restored to its entirety. The Stand : The Complete And Uncut Edition includes more than five hundred pages of material previously deleted, along with new material that King added as he reworked the manuscript for a new generation. It gives us new characters and endows familiar ones with new depths. It has a new beginning and a new ending. What emerges is a gripping work with the scope and moral comlexity of a true epic.
For hundreds of thousands of fans who read The Stand in its original version and wanted more, this new edition is Stephen King’s gift. And those who are reading The Stand for the first time will discover a triumphant and eerily plausible work of the imagination that takes on the issues that will determine our survival.

My favorite King book!
Amazing. That is all.
Excellent! This was the first SK book I read. I loved it decades ago and I love it still. Cannot overstate what a great read this is.
I LOVED this book and the movie! I’d love to see the movie again!
I’ve read this book seven or eight times, enough that I need a new copy. It never gets old. The breadth and scope of this world, our world, being decimated by Stephen King, is awful and awe-inspiring. Being a witness as this humanmade pandemic spreads caused no small amount of paranoia every time I heard a sneeze or cough.
Everything is richly detailed, and I could easily visualize the action as it took place.
I felt like I was right there, every step of the way, as these heroes and villains struggled to make their mark on this new world.
So Good.
I love this author.
Who doesn’t love king at his best.
Fantastic Read. Stephen King at his best.
My absolute FAVORITE book! Something put this book at a swap meet I went to and guided me to it-and the creepy guy in a van that I bought it from. $3 VERY well spent. I was 13 when I read this book, and I fell in love with Stephen King’s work thereafter.
I love how you get to know all the characters so well. My favorite is Nick, a deaf-mute character. I won’t give any spoilers but it is definitely worth reading all 1000+ pages!!! Stephen King has been such a huge inspiration for my own novel. He definitely knows how to hit a nerve!
lost a star over to preachy
If you want something to take your mind off of something like trying to quit smoking, this would be a great book to get into because it takes a while to read. Stephen King does know how to write a thiller but this end of the world as we know it. The only book I really did not like was Dolres Calborne.
I’ve loved this book since I was a kid, and now its even better. It’s eerie how true it could be…
“You ain’t no nice guy!”
I finished reading this book over a year ago, and I still lose sleep over the characters and their individual stories.
M.O.O.N. that spells: This book is intoxicating.
This has been the best book that Stephen King has written so far.I loved how it kept going further and further and just getting meet the characters and feeling like I’m part of it no cheering them on and crying when something bad happens to women want to get that flag so bad anyway I think it’s messed up getting a long long time I would recommend it to anybody it is just awesome .
Love Steven King’s books.
I’ve been reading King’s novels since I was in middle school and had to wrap his books in a fake cover in order to avoid having it snatched away by the adults who thought I should still be reading Nancy Drew. While I have a slight preference for the original, edited version, both editions are among his very best work. This one is worth a reread if it’s been a few years.
Stephan King at his best.
This book was so much more than what I expected. Just thinking about it still gives me chills. And scary…OMG and I’m not talking monsters or maybe I am. A must read.
Iconic. I love the trash can man, can see him in my mind as King describes him traveling along. This story tells of a movement we’d like to join and people we’d like to call our close friends. It’s definitely worthy our time.
I read this book over 30 times over the years I still love it.
I first read this book close to 40 years ago and still consider it one of the best books I’ve ever read and the best King book ever written.
