The first volume in the reader-acclaimed, Amazon bestselling She-King series, a saga of ancient Egypt’s most fascinating royal family.
Is Ahmose’s divine gift a blessing or a curse?
The second daughter of the Pharaoh, Ahmose has always dreamed of a quiet life as a priestess, serving Egypt’s gods, ministering to the people of the Two Lands. But when the Pharaoh dies without an heir, she is … heir, she is given instead as Great Royal Wife to the new king – a soldier of common birth. For Ahmose is god-chosen, gifted with the ability to read dreams, and it is her connection to the gods which ensures the new Pharaoh his right to rule.
Ahmose’s elder sister Mutnofret has been raised to expect the privileged station of Great Royal Wife; her rage at being displaced cannot be soothed. As Ahmose fights the currents of Egypt’s politics and Mutnofret’s vengeful anger, her youth and inexperience carry her beyond her depth and into the realm of sacrilege.
To right her wrongs and save Egypt from the gods’ wrath, Ahmose must face her most visceral fear: bearing an heir. But the gods of Egypt are exacting, and even her sacrifice may not be enough to restore the Two Lands to safety.

I would pick up “The Sekhmet Bed” intending to read for only a moment, because a moment was all I had at the time. Fifteen minutes, twenty minutes, a half hour later, I would still be reading, even though I felt antsy because I had other things I needed to be doing. I could not stop reading. I had to know what happened next. I had to know what was …
PHENOMENAL…. extremely well written..The author transports you to Egypt, at its apogée…. great personages… great plots…
The rivalry between two siblings… all is well depicted…. one can be so engrossed in the description of surroundings, or food, that one can smell, taste, and be a complete part of the story.

Absolutely great reading! Make sure to watch a clock so you don’t stay up all night reading it!
Super great read!
I’m not sure if this was a mystical book about the gods or a very tragic book about two teenagers thrust into an unimaginable situation while struggling with severe mental illness.
I like Egyptian fiction and this was a great book in that category.
A very entertaining book with some poignant insights into life in ancient Egypt. It certainly captured my attention and was very enjoyable.
Couldn’t get pass the the first chapter.
I was so sorry that I finished this book! I wanted it to go on forever!
Loved this historical novel
While deliberately not historically accurate, the author does make believable characters, a good story, and a fun read. I read for fun and relaxation because I have to read so much heavy material for my job, and I’m not that into TV. So I want to have a good story with characters I can believe in and the author delivers. Will definitely …
Interesting, compelling fictionalization of early Egypt. Customs, costumes, worship are all believable. Harems complicate heirship. Relationships in a royal family are affected by the Pharoh’s selection of a non-royal heir, Tut, an accomplished, successful general. Tut (not the Tut of the extravagant tomb) is directed by a dream to marry the …
Different period of history. Love and hate. Sad because of the beliefs of Egyptian gods.
It was a nice book and I really loved how the author described very vividly the lufe in ancient Egypt. The writing was good too, however, at some point I felt the plot stuck at the same place, the rivalry between the sisters, and didn’t move beyond that point.
I’m fascinated by ancient Egypt so this book was a fun read. Characters a little too modern for my taste but still a pleasant read.
It’s readable but not a favorite, sadly not everything can have a happy ending.
great read
The history of the period is portrayed in an informative, concise manner. An enjoyable period piece.
Never thought of Egypt and it’s ruling class before. Brought the era to life and gave insight into how they lived and what they believed.
