From the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, THE ALICE NETWORK, comes another fascinating historical novel about a battle-haunted English journalist and a Russian female bomber pilot who join forces to track the Huntress, a Nazi war criminal gone to ground in America.
In the aftermath of war, the hunter becomes the hunted…
Bold and fearless, Nina Markova always dreamed of flying. When the Nazis attack the Soviet Union, she risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans. When she is stranded behind enemy lines, Nina becomes the prey of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, and only Nina’s bravery and cunning will keep her alive.
Transformed by the horrors he witnessed from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials, British war correspondent Ian Graham has become a Nazi hunter. Yet one target eludes him: a vicious predator known as the Huntress. To find her, the fierce, disciplined investigator joins forces with the only witness to escape the Huntress alive: the brazen, cocksure Nina. But a shared secret could derail their mission unless Ian and Nina force themselves to confront it.
Growing up in post-war Boston, seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride is determined to become a photographer. When her long-widowed father unexpectedly comes homes with a new fiancée, Jordan is thrilled. But there is something disconcerting about the soft-spoken German widow. Certain that danger is lurking, Jordan begins to delve into her new stepmother’s past—only to discover that there are mysteries buried deep in her family . . . secrets that may threaten all Jordan holds dear.
In this immersive, heart-wrenching story, Kate Quinn illuminates the consequences of war on individual lives, and the price we pay to seek justice and truth.

One of our book club favorites!!K
Loved learning about WW2 in such a compelling and gripping story. Great pace and characters. Impressive writing.
I could not put this book down. I love historical fiction because it’s not just about the events that took place in the world, it’s about both the tragic and heroic circumstances so many of our ancestors lived through. The Huntress was haunting and unpredictable in so many ways. Great ending too.
Truly an adventuresome feast, Quinn has given us a smoothly tight and moving plot, characters one can sink teeth into, and a well-tied ending with a hearty set of author’s notes and a bibliography, to boot. I couldn’t stop reading and lost sleep over this one!
I highly recommend this for a fast-paced and intriguing story.
Great read for anyone who enjoyed The Alice Network. This book is just as good.
This incredible story focuses in on the Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans.
Superb. A lover of historical fiction, was such a great book I could not put it down.
FAVORITE BOOK EVER
This story is told from many perspectives, which I enjoyed. I do think the gay/bi-sexual storylines are forced upon readers and are quite cliche, but the story does progress. I found interesting the immediate post-war attitude in regards to finding former Nazi officers, which I think Quinn portrays with accuracy, including in the Epilogue information about the trial itself and sentencing. There is also a line in the novel about how future generations’ attitudes towards the German war criminals might be very different from the generation who wants to put the war in the past and get on with living. I think Quinn did an excellent job of highlighting those differences.
I liked a majority of each character’s personal war stories and how Quinn blended those with the teenage story of Jordan. Nina’s early life parallels similarly with Jordan, in that each has a passion developed very early in their lives, though their home lives are very opposite.
This is a good WWII story.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. Unforgettable! I’ve recommended to many people.
Kate Quinn is a great author! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the hunt down for Nazi war criminals. It infused a love story and historical fiction.
come see-come saw
THIS BOOK. Drop whatever you are doing and buy it and read it right now. I laughed, I cried, I stayed engaged throughout all of it. Kate Quinn is a master at taking multiple, seemingly unrelated threads of storytelling and weaving them together for a climatic ending where you will be glued to the book, and maybe bringing it to work and trying to read it when no one is paying attention. Trust me when I say this book is a masterpiece.
Loved this book. Learned a lot about women pilots in WW2.
I liked the book very much, but read it some time ago and can’t remember the characters or plot.
I read this one after reading The Alice Network. It’s rare to find any novel set in WWII that doesn’t lose itself in period cliches. Happily, The Huntress, like The Alice Network, avoids that fate. How? Kate Quinn is simply a master at characterization and dialogue, combining both in scenes that take us way past the expected cliches. One character in this novel, in particular, a Russian woman bomber pilot, is simply her own master class in creating a multi-dimensional character who carries the entire novel. For those, like me, who grew up on hackneyed WWII movies, this novel is a stunning and informative read.
Kept my interest. Couldn’t wait to see how it wrapped up in the end. Recommend.
A powerful historical novel that shows the courage and grit of Russian women who piloted bombers to help defeat the Nazis.
This is a very complex story that weaves three plots (Nina Markova during WWII, Nina after the war, and Jordan McBride after the war) to create a compelling read that is hard to put down.
The timeline of Nina during the war was remarkable in showing how crucial the women were in the war effort, surmounting incredible odds while never really being accepted as equals to the men who fought in the war.
It also shows us how for some, the war didn’t end in 1945, pushed and consumed to seek justice against Nazi war criminals no matter the personal cost.
At the very core, it’s a story of love, friendships, and hope for a better future.
A great read.
This book was not a easy read.
A different story about the Nazi hunters. Very well written and researched, excellent historical fiction.
