“Every experience God gives us . . . is the perfect preparation for the future only He can see.”–Corrie ten BoomCorrie ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who became a heroine of the Resistance, a survivor of Hitler’s concentration camps, and one of the most remarkable evangelists of the twentieth century. In World War II she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers … underground workers escape from the Nazis, and for their work they were tested in the infamous Nazi death camps. Only Corrie among her family survived to tell the story of how faith ultimately triumphs over evil.
Here is the riveting account of how Corrie and her family were able to save many of God’s chosen people. For 35 years millions have seen that there is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still. Now The Hiding Place, repackaged for a new generation of readers, continues to declare that God’s love will overcome, heal, and restore.
“A groundbreaking book that shines a clear light on one of the darkest moments of history.”–Philip Yancey, author, The Jesus I Never Knew
“Ten Boom’s classic is even more relevant to the present hour than at the time of its writing. We . . . need to be inspired afresh by the courage manifested by her family.”–Jack W. Hayford, president, International Foursquare Church; chancellor, The King’s College and Seminary
“The Hiding Place is a classic that begs revisiting. Corrie ten Boom lived the deeper life with God. Her gripping story of love in action will challenge and inspire you!”–Joyce Meyer, best-selling author and Bible teacher

I have read this book several times. I have never forgotten that Betsy knew to thank God for the fleas in the concentration camp’s barracks. I try to remember this when I find it hard to thank God for circumstances in my own life, and none of them have been as bad as what Corrie and Betsy went through.
Required reading? I would add The Hiding Place, Corrie Ten Boom, to my top ten required reading. It is a story of human endurance during the very worst and unthinkable of modern times. It documents a history of what can happen to good and peaceful people when a tyrant is allowed to reign over a nation or nations, as the world looked on in horror. I am not thinking of this book as a religious reference, but about how people can work together to help others even in the times of despair. It’s about the strength and hope of humanity !
My favorite book ever. I love true stories and this one is not only true and amazing seeing what people are willing to risk to do what is right, but also has many lessons and truths to learn.
One of the most powerful stories I have ever read. Corrie ten Boom and her family were a study in courage. There were many Christians who shielded their Jewish neighbors in The Netherlands, in Greece, France and other places that had been invaded by the Germans. Risking their own lives for their neighbors was a Christian obligation for loving your neighbor. A must read for anyone interested in WW2 and the Holocaust.
I read this book many years ago, when I didn’t know as much about WWII as I do now. Corrie Ten Boom’s humility is refreshing, and her faith is inspiring.
This is a true story of a woman, and her family, who suffered under Hitler in WW2 Germany. It is a story that is sad and yet very inspiring also.
I read this years ago and found it very inspiring but tragic. I thought it showed how Corrie matured in her faith and saw God working through tragedy. She was strong-willed but conformed more and more to become someone who could forgive her greatest enemies. God revealed future events through her sister and they all came true even though they all sounded impossible at the time.
I would recommend this book to people who like to see the hand of God even through circumstances far from ideal. God is with us through the valleys and not just the mountains. I felt God was the real hiding place even more than the secret room.
I read this book recently on verbal recommendation from someone I know. This is a heartbreaking yet incredibly inspiring book. If you want to read about inspiring people in the midst of very dark times then pick this up and read it. This book will give you hope. It will leave you pondering the light of hope during very dark times in World history. I highly recommend this book!
Makes you grateful for the life you enjoy and the many blessings we have. Normal people enduring extraordinary circumstances thru faith.
Difficult to read. Tragic how hatred can destroy so many. Inspirational how Corrie survived depending on God.
Few books have challenged my understanding of who God is like this one. After reading Corrie ten Boom’s memoir of her Christian family’s experiences trying to save Jews during WWII, I came to learn more about how to trust God and His working in the midst of this broken world. Many lives, including mine, have been changed after reading this book or seeing the movie based on it!
Gratitude parts the storm clouds of life and allows sunshine to enter our soul. Corrie is a shining example of being thankful in the worst of times. Thanks for your inspiration and love.
I have seen her real Hiding Place. Afte reading the book, seeing it was a sad, frightening, moving experience. Read her story. Multiply it by the millions who were killed.
I love this book! It is very inspirational!
A must read. This is a heart-breaking story of what people endured during the Holocaust. We need to understand the past so we do not repeat it!!!
This book is very inspirational and a very true story. It’s about the life of a woman’s experience during the holocaust. It’s a thrilling adventure of her smart ways of getting out of death.
One of the most inspiring Christian biographies of the 20th century. Must-read.
How a Dutch family risked and some lost their lives by loving And hiding Jewish people during WW2. Amazing story of real Christians who walked what they talked. True story. Should be required reading. Also made into a movie.
I haven’t read this book in several years, but it’s beauty hasn’t changed for me. Miss ten Boom and the Sherrills tell her story with the skill of fiction writers, filling the pages with the emotions of the time. How I would love to explore the multilevel Beje and sit with the family as they loved their neighbors! Oh, how the fear emanated off the pages as they continued to love their neighbors by hiding them from those who sought to destroy them. And the lessons Corrie and Betsy learned while in prison for stealing ration cards (rather than hiding Jews)! They are priceless jewels that we should all store deep in our hearts.
A must read. If you don’t think God exists this book will open your eyes if you let it. For those who believe. It’s an affirmation. I hope we never forget the injustices of WWII.
