The story moved at a slow pace at the beginning while the author created the world for us and we dived into this unique world. It picked up the pace rather quickly. This story follows a princess, guard, and a apprentice. The princess loves a very sheltered life and she goes on a journey with the guard and apprentice. Oh boy, the journey is a fun ride and I fell in love with the trio!!
Give the story a chance. It’s a great story that has twists and turns. Loved it.
The Frost Eater is an exciting adventure set in a post-apocalypse world where advanced technology ended and magic evolved.
Nora starts as a lonely and socially awkward princess, but grows to become a young-woman who is willing to risk everything and bravely stand by her new friends–one who drives her nuts and the other who she has no future with but wishes she could.
When I got about 60% into the book I could not put it down (and that is coming from a mom of six kids, many responsibilities, and usually good self-control putting down a book).
The world building is rich, with a blend of forgotten technology, attempts to mimic it, medieval living and magic. Our family spent a delightful time musing over the rules and limitations of this world’s magic.
I love the chapter headings with journal entries from Nora’s ancestor. It adds depth and understanding to the culture and what was happening in the story.
Just when you think all of the stories have been written and all of the magic has been discovered, along comes a new series that pulls the reader right into a fantasy world that somehow seems plausible. There is interplanetary living, a recent apocalyptic event, dragons, and magical abilities. The story line flows easily and is easy to follow. There are great moments of fear, friendship, and romance without getting too mushy. The fight scenarios also feel real without being overly gory. As the first in the series, this book truly grabbed my interest and I will be anxiously awaiting book #2!

Engaging characters and a well-paced story line kept me locked into the world of The Frost Eater for an entire afternoon. I found the concept of eating a specific item in order to gain a magical power fascinating, although I could have done without the “distended stomach”. The touch of romance was just enough–not over the top or ooey-gooey. So many fantasy novels are heavy with some sort of conflict or war to the point of being ponderous. While The Frost Eater does contain plenty of fighting action, it’s not page after page, chapter after chapter of violence. Looking forward to the next book in this trilogy and expect I will be just as captivated with it as I was with this one. Grab a quilt, curl up in your favorite reading nook and dive into a world filled with extremely likeable characters, villains you love to hate, magic, mystery, and a dragon or two.

This is an exciting, awesomeness read! It was a fantastic book to read and I am delighted that I received a ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This isn’t a genre that I generally read, however, this author never fails to draw me in further with every adventure/episode that is portrayed! I am delighted to have read this awesome book and constantly was amazed at the twists and turns that happened. I believe any reader will feel the same!
