An account of the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 relates the stories of two men who shaped the history of the event–architect Daniel H. Burnham, who coordinated its construction, and serial killer Herman Mudgett.
You will learn many things about the “Colombian Exhibition “ or 1892 (200 years after Columbus landed) World’s Fair, in an enjoyable manner. This book is based on real events. While tracking the fair, it also tracks a sociopathic murderer. Very satisfying read.

As someone who has spent a fair amount of time in Chicago, I appreciated learning an aspect of the city’s past of which I had been unfamiliar.

It’s a book that involves awesome story-telling of a factual event. On of Eric Larson’s best.

The Chicago World’s Fair is presented with a side story of a brutal killer who hones in on young women who come to Chicago to stay in his “women’s hotel” for supposed safety in the big city, but some whom end up victims instead. A fascinating read!

I enjoyed the information and detail in this book, and found the obstacles that had to be overcome to finish the fair fascinating. However, this felt like two different books jammed together simply because they shared a location. H.H. Holmes had zero impact on the fair itself, and Holmes killed people before and after the fair, so the fair didn’t …

This is a book you cannot put down! I loved meeting all the characters who attended the Chicago World’s Fair! My husband and I even made a trip to Chicago for a tour of the remnants of the World’s Fair.
I’ve not seen the movie but I am sure it is great too.
