An account of the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893 relates the stories of two men who shaped the history of the event–architect Daniel H. Burnham, who coordinated its construction, and serial killer Herman Mudgett.
Engrossing historical account that combines the tragedy, horror, and mystery of real characters, proving once again that reality can be much more terrifying than fiction.

I couldnt put it down. I am a physician so I suppose thats why I had to know how a physician could be one of the most renown SERIal KILLERs I had never heard about until reading this book. Daughter went to U of Michigan and she had not known about him either. You just never know what lies in the heart of some folks who start life in a dark place

This is another book I read years ago. I was fascinated from start to finish. It really was two stories in one book. Erik Larson has become one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend …

I have read all of this authors books. This book is excellent as are all of his works. One of a very few writers who have kept me up to all hours. He knows his subject matter and knows how to keep you wanting more. Only problem I have is remaining patient for his next book!

Slow to start, but great juxtaposition between H.H. Holmes and Frederick Law Olmstead, set against the World’s Fair in Chicago. Full of period detail and intricate insight into two equally brilliant, but totally different, minds.
