This was a great read on several fronts. Fascinated by the planning, design and construction of the Columbia Exhibition. The backstory is amazing. This book is one of my all time favorites. I grew up near the Holmes building although many years later. I’ve also been interested in Chicago World’s Fairs. This book is written in such an informative yet entertaining way. You really feel like you can picture everything.

After visiting Chicago as a child, it was so intriguing to learn the history of places I’d been so impressed with, ie the Museum of Science and Industry! Such a great read!

Eric Larson is one of my favorite writers. He uses a detailed, journalistic style that brings his story to life and makes it real. His historical development sets the stage and builds suspense for the horror that is to come. You will love this book.
