The wall between our world and that of vengeful spirits has protected humanity for more than 400 years. It’s about to come crashing down.Ellie Lancaster has lived her whole life by the site of the mysterious Lost Colony of Roanoke, the North Carolina settlement that vanished without a trace around 1590. Only the descendants of the two men who banished the spirits of an enemy tribe from the … from the material realm know what really happened to the colony. Ellie is one of those descendants—a Curse Keeper. Her father took pains to teach her what he knew of the curse and the responsibilities of its guardians. He taught her that if the two Curse Keepers ever meet, the curse will be lifted, the gate will open, and the raging Native American spirits will be unleashed to seek their revenge.
Despite her father’s seriousness, Ellie has always taken the legend for a harmless fairy tale. Until she meets the darkly handsome, but downright infuriating, Collin Dailey and realizes everything she was told is true. For when they meet, it’s like the air is sucked from the room. Collin’s presence is electrifying… and it’s not just attraction Ellie feels, but the inexorable pull toward her destiny. The prophecy is real, and now Ellie and Collin must battle supernatural forces and their loathing—and passion—for each other to set things right.
The Curse Keepers are all that stand between the world and its destruction.

I really enjoyed the dynamics between Ellie and Collin. How the naive and innocent woman tries to handle the criminal selfish jerk since they need eachother. Love how Ellie gives him a run for his money.
I had my suspicions and felt torn at certain times on decisions that were made or soon to be made. However, as for the book overall? Awesome! The characters, the story, the way it all comes together is so unique and enjoyable.
This is another great book by Denise Grover Swank. Different story line to the other ones I’ve read. But just as good if not better. Ellie is just a woman trying to get by in her little town. That is until Colin walks through the door breaking the curse. The lost Colony of Roanoke reappears which also opens the gate to hell. Ellie and Colins mission is to close the gate so the spirits don’t get out. Such a gripping story the ending is full on, I couldn’t believe what I was reading
I’ll be the first to admit, I was hesitant to pick this book up. It’s definitely outside of my normal genre choices, but Denise Grover Swank is just one of those authors where I will at least try any of her books. I am SO GLAD I did!
The Curse Keepers follows Ellie Lancaster as she discovers that she is a descendent of one of the only two people who knows what happened to the lost colony of Roanoke. When she meets the other descendant, the two of them have until the beginning of the seventh day to close the gates of hell and keep the spirit world away from the material world. But how is she supposed to trust someone she just met?
This was a great book! I love that Denise used Roanoke and you can tell she actually did some research into it, which is definitely the hallmark of a great author. Even though this isn’t my normal read, I’m now super excited for the rest of the series.
This is my first Urban Fantasy book I’ve ever read, and I was not disappointed. I knew reading another one of D.G. Swanks books could never disappoint! I loved the action in this book, I couldn’t put it down and wanted to just hide away until I could finish it. The little mystery in it caught my attention right away. I definitely would recommend!
Before this book, I have never read an urban fantasy book, and was kind of hesitant to be quite honest. I read tons of amazing reader reviews, and ended up loving The Curse Keepers. I honestly couldn’t wait to continue this series! I think this is a great beginner and introduction to this genre. In this book, Denise writes about the Lost Colony of Roanoke, North Carolina. We meet Ellie and Collin, who are some of my favorite characters of all time. They have been passed down the title of curse keeper, and if the two of them ever meet the curse will break. Elle and Collin must battle supernatural forces in order to save humanity. Such a unique and original story, that I highly recommend everyone read!
This was my first Urban Fantasy book. I though I was more into the romance genre, however, this book was amazing! I have learned I really enjoy Urban Fantasy. As someone new to this genre the plot was new and refreshing. I think Ellie is a strong female character while Colin always seemed like he had some dark secret. I think their connect is deep and spiritual and that really comes through in Denise’s writing. Great beginning to a great series!
I had been putting off reading this book because urban fantasy/paranormal type books are not something I usually read. I have to say that I absolutely loved this book and I wish I would have started reading this series sooner. The Curse Keepers kept me interested from start to finish and I thought that the writing was fantastic. The descriptions of the locations and of the paranormal events really painted a vivid picture in my mind. The quick pace of the book made it easy to read and kept me interested in the story. I finished the book wanting to read more about Ellie and Collin and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I LOVE Denise Grover Swank but, mostly her other genres…. until now! It took me a few years to finally start reading this series but once I started, I couldn’t put it down. I loved Ellie and this book is just what I needed to read at this time. I can’t believe so I was so closed off to it for a long time. You definitely need to read this whole series.
Great story by an awesome writer! Simply could not put it down! Denise Grover Swank has a way of writing where you feel connected to the characters. You will not be disappointed with this series or anything else she writes!
The Curse Keepers was amazing! This is a very imaginative story. I love this take on the Roanoke curse. The chemistry between Ellie and Collin is electric! Denise Grover Swank does such an amazing job describing characters feelings and emotions. I was drawn into Ellie and Collin’s life. My heart broke at the end. I am excited to read more of Ellie and Collin’s story.
Very enjoyable read. I wasn’t able to put it down.
