Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave. One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly … endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is a wholly original story of rage and revenge, of guilt and horror, and of love and loathing from bestselling and acclaimed author Holly Black.

Not sure where the vampire trend stands these days. When I was super into vampires, they were gothic and super uncool, then they were cool/sexy/all the rage, and now they’re… uncool/trite? Whatever.
This book hearkens back to my obsession with deadly, dark, non-sparkly vampires. If you like Amelia Atwater-Rhodes’ In the Forests of the Night, …
I’ve been on a Holly Black binge lately, reading all her books. Pissed at myself for not starting this journey farther back. But we can’t turn back time, now can we? So, vampires are hit or miss for me when it come to books. I mainly dig the blood thirsty movie kind.
As for characters, I loved Tana! In pretty much all the vamp books I’ve read, …
Vampires have been romanticized for years. The alluring suitors that will make your darkest dreams come true. Distant stories that soon became a reality when the first outbreak occurred. A single bite can infect you, turn you cold and give a thirst for blood. And a single drop of blood once you’re infected can turn you into a full-fledged vampire. …
I so wish this book either had one more chapter, or – an even better idea – a second book to it. I got so sucked in, right from page one. The author does a great job of making you feel as though you are right there, walking alongside the characters in the story.
It’s dark, it’s gritty, it’s filled with action and conflict. The only gripe I have …
It took me a week to read this which is very unusual for me. I just really didn’t care about most of the characters. And I felt like there was a lot to the world and vampire history, but it didn’t feel very well explored.
Gavriel is probably the most interesting character and the one I cared about the most. He’s definitely crazy and hard to …
I read this in one sitting. It was interesting and fast paced and an overall super awesome book
Vampires + Holly Black. I don’t need to say anything else. <3
Love, love, love this book!
Tana is a strong and interesting character who works through who she is and who she wants to be – doing whatever it takes to get there.
All the different types of vampire folklore come together in this book to create an inescapable vampire dystopia.
Gavriel is my favourite character. He walks the line between …
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown isn’t the perfect vampire book. It shows a unique view of vampires that I really enjoyed reading. Everything about this book is odd, but the pieces mesh well together. In the audiobook, there are weird “suspenseful” noises that didn’t work well. The narrator of the audiobook, Christine Lakin does a good job of bringing …
Okay, so full disclosure it has been a while since I read this book, so I don’t recall the details, but it is one that I wanted to add to my recommended list because it’s one that surprised me. I didn’t expect to like it. And I really did. Obviously there is something about vampires that transfixes the human psyche. I have no idea what it is, but …
Tana wakes up in a bathtub where she apparently passed out at a classmates party at an old farmhouse. She walks out to find that all the party goers are dead from what looks like a vampire attack. All except Aidan, Tana’s ex-boyfriend. She finds him tied to a bed in a back room with another boy. A boy she doesn’t know who also happens to be a …
My favorite book of all time. I recommend it to anyone who loves vampires. A truly unique story line.
Great book, if slightly slow going because of all the flashbacks. Vampires were scary and gory, the heroine was resourceful, and heroes weren’t obvious. Stakes were high throughout and the solutions weren’t simple, which made it an enjoyable read. This was a YA book, so although there was a lot of blood and death, the romances remained sweet.
Is not your normal run of the mill vampire read…original & a page turner. I LOVE this book!!
One of my favorite s
I’m giving this book 5 stars even though it’s not really my genre (all that bloody vampire stuff). Because it’s SO well-written for the book it is. Great plot that constantly keeps you on your toes, with surprises and twists of action. Strong, interesting characters. Tension, conflict, etc. Awesome. Such a great writer!
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown was a fantastic new take on vampires. It is easily one of my favorite vampire novels for various reasons, one being that I loved the characters Holly Black was able to create. She formed back stories for each of them and slowly revealed their true selves throughout the course of the book. Black also did a stellar job …
