ROMANCE, MAGIC, MYSTERY… AND CHOCOLATE
When Tasmin’s bethrothed, William, is accused of murder, she gathers her wind sprites and rushes to his home town to investigate. She doesn’t have a shred of doubt about his innocence. But as she settles in his chocolate shop, she finds more in store than she bargained for. Facing suspicious townsfolk, gossiping neighbors, and William’s own family, who … family, who all resent her kind — the sorcerer folk from the North — she must also learn to tell friend from foe, and fast. The Chocolatier’s Wife is a truly original, spellbinding love story, featuring vivid characters in a highly realistic historical setting.
more
I’d not read anything from this author before now but after reading “The Chocolatier’s Wife,” I sure plan to look for more!
Ms. Speer does an excellent job with the setting, that of a medieval type country without our modern conveniences and without modern crime-solving technology, and she makes it all seem very real and believable. I also …
Only part way through, but I’m impressed already. The characters are real (within their world), individual, and likable but not cloying. The writing is supple, sets the mood and feeling, but is not overblown. This author goes on my list to try again.
I enjoyed the premise of the magic spell which would predict a person’s ideal match, and the main character’s reaction to her future husband’s arrest for murder. It was a charming novel which was a nice escape from the real world, for a while. I’d love to visit this world or these characters again.
Three dimensional characters, dry wit, interesting plot
An original notion, magic lands vs non-magic lands, and a match-making twist brings together two people for a perfect match. Pragmatic to the point of humor, understated loyalty and devotion —- AND a murder mystery! What’s not to love?
Good story, at times the wording made it hard to read.
a GREAT BOOK WITH AN ORIGINAL TWIST IN THE PLOT.
I enjoyed this book. It is based on an unusual idea of a spell used to show the true mate for individuals. Seemed odd but the story builds until you just have to keep reading to figure out “who did it”!
Enjoyable bit of light reading..nicely done, unusual concept.
A fun book to read. It is well written and easy to get lost in.
An interesting fantasy novel, nicely written with restraint–there was a love tale at the heart of it, but it was subtly told and throughout the author employed an epistolary style mixed with the more usual prose to develop the plot. The primary female character was strong and somewhat terse, but with a sense of humor, and her intednded was a …
A little slow but entertaining enough
Not an easy read. Skipped quite a few pages. Didn’t hold my interest as well as others.
An interesting take on a traditional fantasy. Enjoyed very much
Delight to read1
