When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough. As soon as I touch down I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces and all the black cabs. But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits. When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up.On my first commute into work, … up.
On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.
Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.
As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear God Save the Queen.
I wasn’t looking for the fairytale but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.
The British Knight is a stand-alone, contemporary romance.

A friend loaned this book to me yesterday and I binged read it all night and into the early morning. A definite page-turner as the characters and their life situations/decisions were so true to life. Ms Bay’s use of the dual POV was well done and distinct for each character as well as it did an excellent job at showing their character development both individually and within their relationship. I highly recommend this book and plan to buy it for my own library and also read more by this author.
There’s just something about romances by Louise Bay that’s … regal – majestic. Even though they are not about royals per se, it certainly feels like it – and THE BRITISH KNIGHT was no different. Add to that the fact that it’s mostly set in London and this feeling intensifies tenfold. The writing, the storyline, the beautiful characters – everything was enigmatic and brilliant.
Have you ever thought about if you truly live your life to the fullest, if you seize the day and make the best of it? Our culture nowadays oftentimes rarely allows for such things as indulgence and leisure and travel. That’s the world we live in – and the way Alexander Knightley lives by. He is the epitome of a workaholic, as a barrister, he strives to be the best, being in the office 14 hours a day, including throughout the weekend, is his norm. It takes Violet for him to alternate his view of the world – at least a tiny bit. And in all honesty, she got me thinking about my own work life as well…
About Violet: She lives in New York and after just having lost one of her countless waitressing jobs, she decides it’s time for a new beginning, leaving waitressing and her jerk of an ex behind, when an opportunity comes up to go to London for three months. Her task at the chambers is not an easy one, as delegating work just is not his style – no matter how overflowing his desk – err, office. He is as moody and brooding as he is brilliant in his job. But Violet is determined to make him see the world through different eyes…
Their story is beautifully crafted and develops rather differently to what I expected. Both Violet and Alex are wonderful characters, both driven and strong-willed, both not aware of what they were secretly looking for until the paths cross.
And then there’s the scenery: London is hands down my most favorite city in the world. I think I have been there ten plus times already, always discovering new corners and loving it. Now I’m adding Lincoln Inn Fields to that list… I cannot wait for my next visit!
Story, characters, scenery, banter, some angst, a suited-up brooding hero, intense chemistry, some seriously hot scenes between the sheets, and not to forget those gorgeously emotional moments … this book is the whole package. Inspiring and captivating, the writing is flawless and had me running through the pages.
I cannot wait for whatever Louise Bay brings us next!
Sooooo good! I couldn´t put it down
Two very different people who work so well together.
A buttoned down, workaholic British barrister and a wild child, live in the moment New Yorker are definitely not a march made in heaven. They both have their baggage but she teaches him to loosen up and seize the day. He inspires her to re-examine her life, set goals and make a plan for the future. Along the way their sizzling chemistry gives way to love if they choose to embrace it.
I had heard friends talk about this collection on Facebook and I finally got around to reading/listening to them. I have loved them all and I think this one is my favorite.
Alex is a workaholic who has met his match in Violet. Their chemistry is off the charts, it is sizzling.
Alex and Violet find themselves at a crossroads, they want to get together but then again they don’t. They have both been hurt, he has his work, and she lives in the States. So what do they do?
I found myself laughing and crying at times, this story is that good, fun, and wonderful. I highly recommend it, even if you don’t read the others in this series. As I said, I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrators Shane East, and Saskia Maarleveld was wonderful.
While I definitely don’t think this series deserves all the praise it’s getting, it is an entertaining one if you don’t expect great characters and an epic romance. This one is one of the best ones of the series.
A work place romance involving a barrister and an office assistant. Violet is looking for a new place to sort out her life. She never expected to fall head over heels for her boss. When she learns about his divorce, she begins to wonder if things will ever work out. Can Violet and Alex overcome his drive to work every hour of every day, or will it ruin their relationship just like his last marriage?
Loved both of the characters! Alex was hot. I love how good Violet is for him. She really shows him how life could be if he took a step back from the office once in a while. Obsessed with these books, already reading/listening to Darcy’s story.

3.5 stars
Alexander, the hero, may be a successful conqueror when it came to winning cases as a British barrister, but this handsome, insanely wealthy, gruff, ill mannered at times, too driven for his own good, workaholic hero was too busy to even notice or care life and love were passing him by. A long over and soon to be official on paper divorce was proof of that. Violet knocked him for a loop by proving to be the very thing he needed but didn’t even know he’d been missing. You got what you saw with this guy though. I’ll give him that. He didn’t pretend to be something he wasn’t.
Violet, on the other hand, was a pro at fooling herself. She flitted from job to job just like she often did from man to man. Determined not to take life too seriously after an ultimate betrayal, she was sort of like a butterfly set on enjoying the warm sun while sampling all the pretty flowers in an open meadow. Falling for Alexander was a reminder you can only kid yourself for so long. She was strong in some aspects but not so much in others. She can blame her ex all she wants for ruining her life, but I’d say she’s learned to become her own worst enemy on her own. Always turning tail and running isn’t admirable, IMHO. I’ll just leave it at that, folks.
As usual, this author’s writing flows well, which is a big reason I stay engaged even when I’m not agreeing with some characters’ thoughts or behavior. Since these two knuckleheads did not know each other well at all when their lusty, hanky panky office sexcapades began, I have to admit that beginning set up felt inappropriate to me personally. Heck, she didn’t even know his first name for some time, folks, despite working for him. Good thing is romance kicked in once they actually started to get acquainted and did things together like a potential couple. In fact, they both took on more depth background wise.
For a limited time this series is on Kindle Unlimited, so hopefully I’ll read the whole series. They’ve been on my reading bucket list for ages now.
Title: The British Knight, Series: The Royals Collection (Book 4), Author: Louise Bay, Pages: 307, pub date: 11/28/17, stand-alone but part of a series, handsome rich gruff ill mannered at times workaholic hero, very graphic smex scenes, relationship angst, reluctant to love hero cause work comes first, afraid to love heroine, lusty smex to eventually in love, no OM/OW after meeting, don’t get to know each other first.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed a Kindle Unlimited version of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review. There is no affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author, publisher, NetGalley, or any PR firm.)
A charming, sweet, fun, and heartwarming story. Alexander and Violet are absolute opposites; Alexander a workaholic, Violet a free, independent spirit; but they are perfect for one another. It was beautiful to watch both of them grow. I adored this story.
Violet a MIT grad is looking to start her life in England. Alexander, a barrister in London, literally runs into Violet on her way to an interview, needless to say for a job at his chambers.
Alexander is known as a workaholic, loner who hates to be interrupted in his office. He intimidates
all that come into contact with him. Then comes Violet, a self assured take no prisoners assistant.
He tries to give her a hard time but Violet won’t be intimidated or scared off. He is taken with
her and the way she stands up to him. This is a great enemies to lovers story and takes a while
to get off the ground but it is worth the wait. The audio book version is narrated by Shane East
as Alexander and does a wonderful job bringing him to life.

Seize the Day!
The British Knight is my first read by Louise Bay and it exceeded my expectations. This book brings blistering heat and profound heart! A British hero that is a sexy, grumpy, broody barrister. An intelligent, fierce, spirited heroine. When combined you get explosive chemistry, passionate banter, and astounding connection. These characters may be opposites, but they balance one another beautifully. Alexander and Violet just have to be brave enough to sieze their life changing love! My heart is full.
5 Knightly Stars!!
Finally! I’ve been waiting for Louise Bay to publish another book and I feel like I’ve been waiting forever. I was so glad when I got the British night I was able to open up and I found out that it was Violet King and Alexander Knightly.
Violet King had it all and then one day it was all taken away from her. She vowed to never let another man get close to her and she’s been working job to job since. When she’s at her lowest she gets an option to go to London for three months for a job working for a law firm. On the train she bumps into a quiet, handsome man who makes her feel something she hasn’t felt in a long time. When she drops the directions this mysterious man shows her the way. Violet just knew London was definitely going to be different, good different. But, she was shocked by how different it was.
Alexander Knightly lives and breathes his job. He’s in the office from sun up to sundown. His marriage ended three years ago and since then he hasn’t had a relationship, he’s not celibate but is definitely not in a relationship and he doesn’t want one now. Alexander has to live up to his father who is the best London barrister In the business. Alexander was caught off guard when he saw the American woman. He offered to show her to the building she was suppose to go to. Shocked to learn it was same place he works at and even more shocked to learn she’d been hired as his new assistant. Alexander didn’t want or need an assistant. ESP one as beautiful as her. Alexander didn’t need any distractions. Not even one as beautiful as Violet King.
Once her star this book I cannot put it down. Alexander might come off as mean, rude, and arrogant. But once you get inside his head you realize he’s sweet and caring and most important trying to live up to his father‘s memory. Violet is caring loving. But, she’s been hurt and she’s afraid to get hurt again and because of that she doesn’t want to get hurt again and instead of staying to make sure of things, Violet has a tendency to run. Which drove me absolutely crazy. But in the end I absolutely loved the story
I legit love when I get one of Louise’s books. I know that I’m going to miss sleep that night. I am looking forward to her next book. I really hope Darcy gets her story told.
British Knight was such a great book! I loved the free-spirited and intelligent Violet and the broody alpha with an accent, Alexander so much. They are both complete opposites but they are just perfect for each other. Violet is at a standstill in her life. She just lost another job and has no other prospects at the moment, so when she is given the opportunity to get away to London for three months, she decided to take the plunge. When you are first introduced to Violet, she is seen as flighty and with no drive, but in actuality she is so much more than that. Then we have Alexander Knightley, an arrogant and extremely overworked barrister in London. He is consumed to live up to his father’s name who was coined “Alexander the Great” in their circle. He really had no balance in his life. These two had a very chemistry driven encounter before officially meeting each other. Their sexual tension kept increasing as she became his assistant and continued to work with each other. Their story was filled with some laughs, sexy times, secrets and some heartache. There was actually a secret that Alex had where it was a bit iffy for me, but as you read into their story, I was okay with it. There was also a period of separation of the two, but I loved how it was all resolved. A very enjoyable read and I do recommend it.
The banter between Violet and Knight was funny. They are a hot couple!!!
I’m thoroughly enjoying this series and this author. The Duke of Manhattan was my first read and I loved it enough to buy the next two. I’ve read both in audio and Shane East with his accent is amazing!! The female narrator has this smoky voice. Audio for these two books is delicious.
Alex Knightly is way too driven by his career; everything about life outside Chambers ultimately lost to him. Enter Violet King. Now the only thing lost is him! Head over heels. She’s subtle at times and like a Mack truck others. Their connection is instant despite his “assholeish” behavior…repeatedly. She entices the softer side of Alexander to appear. But she’ll do anything to protect her heart, even if it means walking away.
Loved it!!
Loved this book!! This is my first book by Louise Bay and I really enjoyed it. Her writing is smart, funny and super sexy. Her words combined with Shane East’s voice (I listened to the audio version) and I was hooked! Looking forward to reading/listening to more by this author.
Once I started The British Knight, I didn’t want to put it down. I love this author’s books and this one was no exception. I loved Violet. She’d been cheated badly a few years ago, both in her relationship and business. It had changed her direction in life and left her living more in the moment, rather than planning ahead.
After stalling in her life, she takes the offer from one of her friends to go to the UK and do three months work there.
That’s where she meets barrister Alexander Knight. He’s the workaholic of workaholics. Driven to prove himself because of his father’s achievements. He doesn’t really need to prove himself, but he feels he has to and the man doesn’t give himself any time off at all.
The attraction between him and Violet is instantaneous. When they finally act on it, it’s hot and sexy.
Overall, I loved this. It had a bit of everything. It was funny at times, emotional, sexy and hot. When Alexander gets distracted by work at a time when he shouldn’t have, it begins the path to destruction. Violet’s never pushed him to spend time with her, but he realises the hard way, that he’s a selfish man and driven for all the wrong reasons.
I wanted to slap him sometimes, and hug him too. Loved this.
Violet and Alexander show that when you live in the moment with a little luck and a lot of love the result can be better than your wildest expectations. Violet needs something new and exciting to happen. She is a girl who lives for moments and lately all those moments seem to be on the same wash rinse repeat cycle. With the IPO looming with her swarmy ex she needs a distraction and so when Darcy suggest a sujorn over the pond to jolly old London she thinks what the hay. London Calling is just what the doctor ordered as far as Violet is concerned. Darcy, being her fabulous fairy godmother, along with loaning her place out sets her up with an interview for a job. While her MIT education and waitressing experience might not exactly translate to admin work in a barristers office she is determined to shine like a star – even if this Mr Knightley is an ogre. Heavy is a head that wears his father’s wig… Alexander has spent every waking moment trying to live up to his father’s reputation and memory. He is focused and career oriented to exclusion of most everything else. He barely registered his wife leaving, has no discernable life, and practically lives in chambers. When they bring in an aid to help make him more administratively more productive he is floored by the distraction Ms Violet King creates within. This never happened to him and certainly never over a woman. She fights fire with fire and makes him yearn. Violet makes him want things outside of his barrister bubble that he has never even thought of before. Law always came first, but maybe it’s time to let love take the lead!
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
