In Book One of this cozy mystery series, a morose parrot with a reputation for biting sums up Brookside Retirement Community for reluctant resident, Josephine Bartlett. But when Brookside turns out to be a setting for art theft, dodgy dealings, and naked poker, it becomes vastly more interesting. Josephine investigates the unusual goings on with friend and handwriting expert, Lill Fitzel. And the … the two befriend a young woman Josephine tries to prevent from making the same mistakes she has made.

I was expecting the stereotypical old lady characters in the assisted living facility. Far from the truth. These ladies are smart cookies. Josephine managed to turn the tables on all the men in her life with intelligence and a plethora of chutzpah. A delightful light read.
Entertaining light read – enjoyed the antics of the characters
I really enjoyed reading this book enough that I went in and purchased the other 2 in the series. They were fun to read.
I liked this book more than I expected. It’s unusual given that it’s set in a retirement home and the characters are elderly. Still, I found it to be cute and clever and have to admit I enjoyed the book.
Really enjoyed this who dunnit. Reminded me a little of The Golden Girls. Good characters and a tough to predict ending.
It was a cute little who done it.
I was very disappointed with this book. It was touted as a funny book and with the title I expected to at least smile…but it was sad. The fact that she was put in a nursing home by her greedy son instead of staying in her home was a sad start to the story. I won’t be reading the next book in the series even though the ending was good.
Not great literature but doesn’t claim to be. Cute despite liberties taken with legal and ethical procedures. I enjoyed it.
The shenanigans, wisdom, and wit of the quirky characters had me cheering for them, shaking my head, and smiling aloud.
Entertaining brain candy that took my mind off of the national political scene for a few hours.
This was a unique and heartwarming read. Loved the characters and plot. Did not want to put it down!
iPhone in Warner to be a very insightful introspective Rider with her characters. I enjoyed the fact that they were of a generation that lived a different type of life.
An enjoyable read. Enough suspense and “who done it” with some fun. I enjoyed the format. I could hear each character’s voice as I read.
Josephine is My Hero— I admire her, and hope to b come more like her! She’s smart, witty, a Thinker, and Enjoys Life! I’ve gone on to read Books 2 and 3!
Just didn’t capture my attention.
Loved the characters
I love this book. At first glance at the title and I thought it would be hokey, but now I love it. The characters actually have personality and a story. I’m looking forward to reading more.
Loved all of the characters and twist and turns to the plot!!!!!
Amusing, but not memorable. More of a “beach read” type.
Since I am a senior I enjoyed this story.I do not know why the parrot is mentioned in the description of this story because his part is very small. So many wonderful characters, and a crazy plot line.Enjoy reading this story.
