In Book One of this cozy mystery series, a morose parrot with a reputation for biting sums up Brookside Retirement Community for reluctant resident, Josephine Bartlett. But when Brookside turns out to be a setting for art theft, dodgy dealings, and naked poker, it becomes vastly more interesting. Josephine investigates the unusual goings on with friend and handwriting expert, Lill Fitzel. And the … the two befriend a young woman Josephine tries to prevent from making the same mistakes she has made.

Great story.Hope to read more from this author
An unexpected delight considering the setting and the older characters. Despite an elderly person’s worse nightmare (a child putting Mom in a locked looney bin to take over Mom’s assets) this wonderful heroine prevailed with humor and forgiveness. Yay!
Great characters, very interesting topic. A fun read.
Older ladies as characters are fun
Great series. My 14 year old niece, as well as my Grandmother, would enjoy this series. Very well written.
I thought it would be funnier. A bit disappointed.
One if the best books I’ve read in awhile!
I was an enjoyable read with real characters. Story was witty and funny and an entertaining and easy to read book. Enjoyed the character development. Will be looking for the sequel.
just loved everything about it!!!!!stayed up almost all night to finish it! Thanks
Very real and down to earth. Loved the humor!
Many good chuckles and pretty realistic for a retirement home?
I liked the book, cute story with some mystery to it and happy ending
I liked it so much I bought book 2 and will be getting the rest of the series.
Fun and the puzzles were intriguing.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! In fact on Book 3 of the series now. My Mother lives in the same type of setting as the characters in the book. Parts of the story made me laugh out loud. Very enjoyable read. Definitely recommend!
KEPT ME GUESSING.
Enjoyed this book. Kept me on my feet trying to figure out who actually was the culprit. Enjoyed it.
Very likable characters. Josephine brings to mind Bea Arthur’s character from Golden Girls. Story was well-paced and believable.
Love cozy mysteries.
Not worth reading
