OMG this book was bloody hilarious; I laughed till I had to cross my legs and run to the loo (you’ll get this if you have kids like me)
My other half thought I was losing the plot and kept giving me concerned glances with the strange noises that were coming from my corner of the lounge.
I can honestly say it’s been a while since ive found a story so bloody funny.
“That Guy” should seriously come with a disclaimer; beware danger of serious injury through laughter.
Ive previously read this author’s “Game Of Life Series” which I adored by the way.
This was so different and definitely shows this author’s complete diversity as she switched genres so seamlessly and I enjoyed this just as much as past reads despite them being so different.
This is the story of Melinda and Arlie and the trials and tribulations they traversed on their journey to coupledom; It wasn’t smooth or completely rock free but it was certainly honest and unique.
I also want to put out there how much I adored Mindy’s bestie, Chris.
In my opinion, everyone needs a Chris and for me, he really stole the show; he was the man.
This was a fabulously funny romp that I generally appreciated; loved it so much.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of “That Guy” of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions are entirely my own.e this a go You’ll be laughing till you cry.

I cried laughing. WARNING: Severe Choke Hazard.
I’m serious! Do not eat or drink while reading this book. I snorted, choked and spat my drink, and, my husband looked suspicious at me like I’d smoked some weed or something! NO!! I’m reading this hilarious as all hell book from Belle Brooks, and she nailed the humour like a boss.
There is nothing I can add to the positive and well worded reviews already posted, except to say that I re-iterate every positive opinion. It is unendingly hilarious and romantic, and, it showcases the best in the unconditional love of a family, and most especially the love of a best friend. Even it that friend is gay, flamboyant, completely over the top and has no knowledge of boundaries and personal space!!! He is team Melinda all the way, her best friend and personal cheerleader: everyone needs a friend like Chris!
Mindy is the clumsiest chick with the worst luck that I have ever heard of. I howled with laughter at the shenanigans going on between her and Chris, as well as her epic aversion to conversing with a man. Doesn’t stop her looking at a handsome man though. Intently. Bordering on all out stalker rated staring. But if said man approaches her in any way, she plays possum, much to the entertainment of Chris, and also myself!
One such man is Arlie Blight. When he shows up in more than a couple of the same places as Mindy, she surprises even herself with her ability to squeeze out a couple of words in his presence. He draws her out like no other man has before. But there is definitely more going on behind the scenes with him.
This book is every bit as entertaining as every other review is going to tell you, and I highly recommend this as a must read! You just have to, you won’t be sorry. 5 wet myself laughing Stars.
Hysterical And Sexy!
You know when you read a book and really like it?
How about love it?
What do you call a book that fills your heart and soul with joy?
A book that you can honestly place in your top TEN favorites of all time? One that made you laugh, and your heart skip and soar?
What about a book that you want to sing about to every lover of words that you know?
THAT GUY, created by Belle Brooks, is THAT BOOK!
This is my first book by Belle and I absolutely loved it!! So funny, with great characters, such witty banter and moments you did not see coming. If you are ever in a book slump then this is the one to get you back into reading. I need more books like this in my life!!! Great escapism indeed!
Belle Brooks this story is witty, hilarious, and sugary sweet. It makes you laugh so hard you almost pee your pants throughout this book. The twists and turns keep you grinning from ear to ear! There are flying vibrators, bunny pjs and everything in between. You must meet Priscilla and find out about KFC.
Then there’s Chris, who is Mindy’s gay best friend, and he will make you love him from the first sarcastic, funny thing he says or does. He is the glue that holds Mindy and this story together with just enough sass and his crazy antics. But he is loyal and protective and I want a “Chris”in my real life. To be honest, he steals the show when he’s around. Everyone needs a Chris or there life is incomplete in my opinion.
Arlie is sexy and smart but he has some secrets that he isn’t ready to share with Mindy and so does she. Their attraction is like a volcano erupting it’s so hot. But Mindy is quirky and crazy and she doesn’t do love? Can the crazy girl get the mysterious, sexy guy? Does real life fit in with paradise?
Belle Brooks this Rom-Com is realistic, exciting, fresh and fun and must be read by anyone with a wicked sense of humor. One of the funniest books I’ve read this year!
An amazing book – a real tearjerker – a must read…. Now for books 2 & 3 in the series.
This was a cute, funny, sweet Rom-Com. I loved Melinda and Arlie’s story. I was hooked right from the beginning. I loved the characters in this book. I think this was well written and I enjoying the storyline. This is the first book I have read from this author and I can’t wait to read more.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review
That Guy will have you laughing from start to finish! Belle Brooks has done a fantastic job writing this situational RomCom!
How many crazy things can happen to one person? Mindy can answer that! She seems to goes from one crazy situation to the next and as luck will have it, Arlie has been a witness to some of her crazy.
She doesn’t date but fate seems to have another plan. She keeps ending up in the path of the sexy, mysterious Arlie. The sexual tension hangs heavy throughout the story, but they both have a past and carry secrets. Can a little time secluded in paradise together break down their walls and build up their relationship?
To round out the cast of characters, you have Mindy’s gay best friend, Chris, who totally adds to the story with his take me as I am attitude, sense of humor, sass, and crazy antics.
This story is a definite must read!
Belle Brooks can write a hell of a lot of different genres, we’ve had thrillers, tear Jerkers, and contemporary, but when i saw she was going to write a rom com i was excited.
This book was really amazing, i laughed and really enjoy how different this story was to any other that i read.
It so good when you can relate to the main character and i was laughing the way through with Mindy, but i also connected with her insecurities and the way she looked at life. She was such a good character and was written so perfectly.
Arlie now he sounded like the kind of man i could dream about having in my arm he sounded so dream worthy but i loved how he also had his insecurities and just wanted someone to love him for him.
There were other characters in this book that you can’t help to fall in live with like Chris every girls dream gay bestie he had me laughing as well.
You will throughly entertained in the book when we have disasters with Jelly Fish and romance and just a really feel good story, with a few little twists.
Another fantastic book from Belle Brooks and would recommend this to any rom- com fans out there
Grab a tissue! You will need to wipe the tears from laughing so hard!
Belle Brooks
Well played, Ms. Brooks, well played!! This Author does not have to write a suspense novel to add some twists and turns in there. When you are not on the edge of your seat a bit, you will be giggling, if not full on guffawing! She has such a sense of humor, oh boy! I am still laughing at some of the parts. Haha! Looking for a rousing read? This is it!
That Guy by Belle Brooks will having you laughing so hard you will have tears in your eyes. Oh and lord have mercy how I would love to have a Chris in my life!
Mindy who after being humiliated in high school swears off guys and puts all her energy into becoming a doctor. Unfortunately something happens and she stops practicing being a doctor and moves to Melbourne where she becomes BFF with Chris. He signs her up on a dating site which leads to her signing up for a TV show called Perfect Catch. Three weeks on a desert island brought so many twist, turns and laugh out loud moments of flying rainbow vibrators, jellyfish, Miss Priscilla, KFC and snakes on my! Absolutely loved everything about this book that I read it again. Still laughing
She is definitely a train wreck but my kind of train wreck!
This book definitely causes intermittent giggling, smirking, and accidental internal monologues. Oh, please! Don’t even pretend you don’t go off on characters you don’t like!
That Guy has some fun in the sun everyone would be jealous of, a wild vacation, and some naughty friends!
So worth staying up till the New Year to finish this book. Warning don’t try to read this in bed. Laughing woke up my husband. That Guy is one of my favorite RomComs to end the year and love. Belle you are amazing.
Laugh until you cry.
Belle Brooks is one hell of an author. She has written angsty, sweet romance, “who’s done it?” mystery, and a laugh from your belly rom-com in That Guy.
I could not get enough of it, read it start to finish, laughed so hard I cried and thought I’d pee my pants.
Melinda is a character I could relate to so, so much, she”s my damn spirit animal.
And Chris! Everyone needs a Chris in their life, he is everything, hilarious, heartwarming, and a total sweetheart. The best best friend.
Arlie made me freaking swoon.
Hilariously funny
I loved this author’s Thirty Days series so when I heard she was writing a rom-com, I was eager to give it a try. I did worry it might be a little too over the top for my tastes (as some very popular rom-coms can be), but the laughs were spot on.
Full of hilariously funny moments, the author did a great job of grounding the story by adding serious moments in as well. As hard as I laughed at some of the situations poor Mindy found herself in, my heart also hurt for the painful moments she went through. And while Mindy and Arlie are great characters, and I loved watching their relationship develop amidst all the laughs, Mindy’s best friend Chris just about stole the show. It’s practically worth reading the book for his antics alone.
The one caveat I have is that I felt things moved pretty fast. There were places I would have liked to have seen a little more detail (like a little more time spent on Mindy and Arlie’s relationship), and I felt the ending wrapped things up just a bit too neatly and quickly.
With great characters and an engaging storyline, Mindy and Arlie’s story has all the elements I look for in rom-com: funny and touching and sweet (and did I say funny?) with a little heat to keep things interesting. 4.5 stars
B2B Kelly
I love these two and their humor. It truly was a laughing out loud reading experience. She is not only physically clumsy, especially when uncomfortable but she is socially clumsy as well until him. Her bestie Chris is flamboyant and off the charts but also encourages her to return. He wants love and a chance encounter with her gives him the chance he has hungered for. This is a once in a lifetime experience and she will have to push her boundaries in all areas to open up to that guy.
It’s fun and I do mean laugh out loud fun and well written as this author is known for but the ending feels rushed. How do you go through that and not get answers first. With that being said from what I see I am the majority in that because it really was a good read.
4.5 stars
That Guy left me with a great big grin on my face at the ending.
Belle Brookes really can do all genres! I loved her ugly cry… Always You, her suspenseful Game of Life series and everything in between… and I was not disappointed in her entrance into the Rom-vom genre !
I’m not one for literally laughing out loud very often so don’t set the stall by me as you can see plenty of reviews show this as laugh out loud funny, but I did find the story smirk-worthy on a number of occasions. More noteworthy is the feel good factor of this story.. ditsy, never-dated, clumsy, near 30 year old meets hot-as-hell male and actually finds she can talk to him and relax.. a first in her books !!
Then following a dare by her gay bestie Chris, who I LOVED (everyone really does need a Chris-where can i find me one?!), she enters a tv reality show to try to find love.. so well yeah anymore I say may contain spoilers so I’ll leave it there but suffice to say after a few twists and turns and some hilarious escapades Mindy realises that maybe just maybe love is hers to find !!
Belle Brooks deserves all the stars! If you haven’t read her books before and love rom-com perfection…buy this book! It’s beautifully written, hilarious and sweet. You can’t help but fall in love with these characters and the story.
I have been waiting for this book and it was so much more than I expected. I read and adored her Game of Life Series and Winner. I swear Belle can write anything and nail it. Not every author can achieve that. I am so impressed. I love her style of funny. Sometimes you need a good belly aching laugh. I especially relate to a bit of self deprecating internal dialogue. I even re-read some of my favorite scenes and still cracked up. Loved every word!
My fingers are crossed for more unique, hysterical, feel good stories like this in the near future!
Romcom with several laugh out loud moments, as well as some cringe-worthy moments as well. Because, even if Melinda was smart, she also did a lot of weird things. And she had so little self confidence. Until she really met Arlie, that is. Sparks flew between those two from their first meeting, even if Melinda did her best to resist. Or hide under a table when they had a chance meeting…
Basing part of the romance on a typical reality TV show, Brooks brought out all the stops. Both when it comes to the romance, and with the humor. I laughed so hard my cheeks hurt, and I still had to continue reading.

Hilariously entertaining!!! That Guy by Belle Brooks is one funny read that will have you flipping pages just to see what impossible situation Mindy will get into next.
Mindy is socially awkward, clumsy and has the worst experiences with the opposite sex. Her BFF’s solution? Online dating. But can true love really be found through a dating site?
I need a holiday. I need a holiday with the man I’ve just stalked for nine aisles.
Mindy is me. I freaking swear to you I felt a kinship with her from the beginning with that cake/ shopping experience. This book was one that I just couldn’t put down. It was witty and funny, but above all it was relatable. If you are looking for something that will put a smile on your face, this is the book for you.
