Is three the charm?Lauren Cooper is on her way to her life’s dream. She’s financed and finished college and law school all on her own. And she’s up for partner at the largest law firm in Indigo Bay. There’s nothing to stop her from concentrating everything on achieving that goal. Until Jesse Brewster, the man who broke her heart twice, shows up sleeping off the night before on the beach, and … before on the beach, and she’s called in to serve as his public defender.
Looking to make a new start after the racing accident that ended his lucrative motocross career and sent him spiraling into darkness, the former champion had envisioned an entirely different scenario if he ever saw Lauren again. That vision was more along the lines of the successful businessman he’d be once he rehabbed the seaside mansion he’s inherited from his uncle and sold it to open a custom bike shop.
Sparks fly between them, and Jesse vows to fan those sparks once he’s got the project successfully underway. But someone starts sabotaging it, putting Jesse behind on the deadline he has to meet to get the property off the Indigo Bay Planning Board’s condemned property list. And Lauren has a sick suspicion that her bosses are somehow involved.
Jesse and Lauren had once promised they’d wait for each other while they pursued their career dreams. Despite that broken promise, neither can deny the love that’s still between them. But now that they are on the cusp of reaching those dreams, are they willing to risk everything to renew that love?
Team Macachek: Fall in love with the strong women and fearless men of the motocross circuit.
This is the 12th novel in the Indigo Bay series, but all books can be read as standalones.

Lauren Cooper is on top of the world. She has her dream job and hopes to be partner soon. She has the perfect place to live and loves the town she has chosen. From time to time she is asked to represent people brought in for minor offenses as pro bono work. Little did she know the bubble was going to burst. Jesse Brewster was a race car driver. He is looking to take his life in a new direction with his inheritance. Falling asleep lands him in her path. You can either forget the past or try to repair it. In the midst is her Mother who seems to be on team together. Her bosses seem to be on team apart. When the curve ball is thrown, it is Jesse’s dad who comes through.
Such a cute story about second chances. Lauren and Jesse had been in love, but so many things had torn them apart. Now, they are seeing each other again as different people. Lauren can help Jesse as he is trying to start his life over again, but so many things are trying to rip them apart again. Jesse is proud and doesn’t feel he has much to offer Lauren just yet. With the help of their family, they try to work it all out. Will it be enough?
This is a great second (or third) chance story! With a very awkward re-meet. It was definitely not what Jesse had in mind! There is also an element of suspense that was done well. I wasn’t quite right about what happened, but I was close.
I loved the characters! Jesse was a great guy, whose life had taken a few unexpected turns. I loved his fighting spirit and his immediate willingness to care for a cute, new responsibility. Lauren had been hurt by Jesse before, and it was understandable that she was trying to protect her heart. It was great to watch her open up her heart again. And I can’t forget Sonja, Jeff and Shelley. They were wonderful, and added so much to the story.
This is the first thing I’ve read by Jean Gordon. I look forward to reading more of her work!
I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
I didn’t find Sweet Entanglement to be all that sweet of a read. I did like the mystery aspect of the story and thought it well done. The romance, however, meh. The main characters have promised to wait for each other while she finishes law school, and he makes his name in the motocross circuit. She has a serious boyfriend during this time. He has casual hook-ups. He’s only afraid that his dad will be disappointed that he was careless and conceived a child whom he gets custody of early in the book. The main characters just seem to fall back into their relationship with little trouble. There were a few missing quotation marks that made parts difficult to follow, but just a few. I wouldn’t recommend this book. I received a copy from NetGalley. I chose to post a review.
Jesse and Lauren are going way back but at some points they just didn’t have the same priorities. New they get a third chance. Can they make it work this time? Or will a heritage and all that needs to be done or even an unexpected responsibility come between them again?
This was a really enjoyable story that kept me entertained the whole book. I really recommend it.
Sweet Entanglement by Jean Gordon
Love that this book can be as a single book from the series of 12-so far. Like the description of the book and intrigued me enough to want to review this one.
Starts out with Lauren and she’s the attorney for his petty crime of sleeping on the beach although he states he owns property in town.
He’s a motorcross cyclist and his career had been cut short.
He has a community service job of picking up beach trash that will pay his fine.
Jesse and her do have a past, 10 years and he hopes to catch up with her.
Book circles a lot of the property he has inherited. There are all kinds of trouble surrounding it and documents that were delivered.
The last straw erupts information at the planning board meeting. She hopes to get her mother to escape the trap…
Laurne had always stuck up for him but he can’t figure out whose side she will be on now…
Great story and I would like to read more from this author. Hoped for more location type descriptions.
Lots of surprises and unpredicted plot. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. About the author and other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Lauren Cooper has moved on since her relationship with Jesse. He broke his promise to wait for her while she pursued her career dreams. He broke her heart & let her down. Now she’s a lawyer in Indigo Bay & ends up representing him.
Jesse Brewster had great career going in Motocross until his accident. He still would have been financially sound but then his mother became sick & they lost her. Jesse used his savings to help his dad cover the medical expenses. Now he’s down to a few investments & the house he just found out he inherited from a distant uncle. Too bad the lawyer handling the estate is the one he never wanted to see him as less than a success, Lauren.
Someone didn’t want Jesse in Indigo Bay claiming his inheritance. Between that, a daughter Jesse never knew he had & his depressed father, Ms. Gordon has given him a lot to handle. Jesse & Lauren seem perfect together & their attraction seems like it never subsided. Lauren is caught between Jesse & the career she always wanted. This was a comfortable sweet story that was light & enjoyable to read.
