Would you survive the evacuation? The outbreak began in New York. Soon it had spread to the rest of the world. People were attacked, infected and they died. Then they came back. Nowhere is safe from the undead. As anarchy and civil war took grip across the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalised. Martial law, curfews and rationing were implemented. It wasn’t enough. An evacuation … implemented. It wasn’t enough. An evacuation was planned. The inland towns and cities of the UK would be evacuated to defensive enclaves being built around the coast, in the Scottish Highlands and in the Irish Republic.
Bill Wright broke his leg on the day of the outbreak. Unable to join the evacuation, he watched from his window as the streets filled with refugees, he watched as the streets emptied once more. He watched as they filled up again, this time with the undead.
He is trapped. He is alone. He is running out of food and water. He knows that to reach safety he will have to venture out into the wasteland that once was England. On that journey he will ultimately discover the horrific truth about the outbreak, a decades old conspiracy and his unwitting part in it.
The first novel in the post-apocalyptic series “Surviving The Evacuation”. (74,000 words)more
Downloaded for free and it was a surprisingly good read.
I am a fan of zombie fiction and this story really builds and ups the tension as each bit passes. Starting off with our main character stuck in his flat as the Zombie apocalypse starts, it goes from a claustrophobic story of isolation into a real struggle for survival.
The protagonist starts off as a whiny, self indulgent man but actually grows through the story into someone you really root for. Also, credit for some very smart and inventive ways of surviving.
Worth a read for sure!
This book was a little slow to start, but I really enjoyed reading it. The only down side is they left you hanging at the end.
I really enjoyed this authors take on the zombie apocalapse. This book was definately hard to put down.
This is the first book in a lengthy series. I really enjoyed the main character and the story line kept me interested all the way through. There are also intriguing references to other characters, that will develop in the rest of the books. The basic premise (surviving the initial zombie plague) has been done before, but this book offers some very interesting twists, and a great character to follow.
“This is the first volume of his journal” OMG I LOVE LOVE this story! It’s different from the other zombie books I’ve read. This books is written like a journal. It tells the story of Bill who broke his leg right before the zombie outbreak. He journals how he is stuck in his house when the evacuations started and how he couldn’t leave. The books flows so nicely that I can hear his voice (what I think he would sound like) reading his journal back to me, instead of me reading it. This book took me along with him. I honestly couldn’t put it down and am hooked on this series! If you are wanting to read a good Zombie Apocalypse book then pick up this series! You wont’ regret it! Happy reading my friends.
I like zombie and apocalyptic books, and although this one held my interest, I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series. It reminded me a bit of Cast Away with Tom Hanks, as most of the movie we are just watching Tom, and with London we are solely with Bill. Well, I guess it’s his journal after all. It definitely was gripping at times and I was nervous for the character. I don’t know, maybe I will pick up the second book. 🙂
One man’s diary account of what happened right after an outbreak that turned everyone into flesh eating zombies. The outbreak started in New York but Bill is in London and has a front row view out of his house of the madness as he is homebound with a broken leg.
Some of the diary/dialog was interesting – especially if it was about the before, during and after of the outbreak. But the mundane stuff of going to the bathroom or downstairs in search of supplies got long and tedious – especially since the whole book is just in his POV.
Great story as told by one survivor. I am anxious to read the next book
