I enjoyed this book. When I first grabbed it, I didn’t realize it was as short as it was, but that didn’t take away from the story. I read it quickly. It picks up right when the apocalypse starts and Twin sisters are kidnapped. I liked the ordinary day vibe, turned into chaos. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series and recommend it to all fast pace Zombie readers!
A great start to what could well develop into a gripping ongoing series …
I haven’t read all that much in the Zombie genre so I can’t say how this compares with similarly themed stories but it certainly sets off at a cracking pace with the fight for survival starting right from the opening sentence almost; it was a nice touch that the initial ‘survival’ efforts were quite unrelated to the Zombie apocalypse occurring. It’s probably premature to make comparisons but the opening scene could easily be one straight out of the hit tv series ‘The Walking Dead,’ though the cover does invite such comparisons, which given its current popularity, I’m not sure is such a good thing.
Although it would read quite well as a stand-alone story, I’m glad the author indicates there will be future instalments thus hopefully allowing the reader to explore the characters in greater depth. It’s impossible to tell what direction the story will take in the future but the story has been written in such a way as to leave open all manner of possibilities and a yearning to know the hows and whys of the current situation the characters have found themselves plunged into …
Strong female characters and a zombie apocalypse – what more do you want? An intriguing introduction to what I’m sure will be a fascinating series. So many possibilities and so many unanswered questions. What caused this zombie apocalypse, how will it evolve, can it be beaten, and what role will ‘kick-ass’ Sarah and her twin sister play in surviving the unfolding drama? I look forward to getting to know these characters better in the coming series.
Hopkins does a great job of giving the reader enough detail and background to make sure we empathize and care for the characters. How will a set of twins, a cancer patient, 2 kids, and a couple of deputies survive as well as find loved ones in a sudden zombie filled world? I am interested to see how Dana and Sarah and the others survive. How long can they keep their new home safe?
This book is outside my normal genres, but I enjoy stepping out of my normal once in a while. This is a very short book, it felt more like a part of a book. Due to the shortness of the book there isn’t a lot of character development, I almost felt like I knew more about the minor characters than the main characters. Even at the very end of the book I felt new elements to the characters were being introduced, making me wonder what lead to that point in time. Zombie apocalypse books are ones I often avoid because of language and violence. This book does have a bit of language and some violence, but I didn’t feel it was overwhelming as I find with some books in this genre. I may have only been willing to listen to the full book due to how short it is, I don’t know. I would be interested in more of the story and may be willing to listen or read more, but don’t know that I’d pay for it.
This was a 7 chapter book about a zombie apocalypse. I really don’t read/listen to these kinds of books but it was a free audio book offered to me and I listened to it while I drove doing errands and putting things away when I got home. The narration was good and the author was very descriptive in her book. I don’t think I want to read more books like this but I know there are people who really like reading books like this and they will like this one.
